Your actually one of my favourite UA-camrs! Keep up the amazing work! I remember first watching you on your apex for noobs. Your actually incredible. (Thanks for getting me into apex and titanfall)
The price of AAA games on the PS Store has now increased to $80, making $60 no longer the standard. and, games like FIFA and COD, which consistently perform well in sales, have absolutely no reason to lower their prices.that would just be a dumb business move 😂
I think $60 and less should still be the standard because most games nowadays make most of their money from an unfinished broken mess that is overly monetized. Even polished games tend to dip their toes into the battle passes and shops. While I can understand having fun extra cosmetics when you start to charge $500 for cosmetics I'm sorry but I am not obligated to pay you more than $60 and that still is an insult.
Very different than what I was expecting, but extra credits did an interesting dev point of view on this. I like your tier for pricing, and I hope Nintendo is going in a similar direction, likewise I'm okay with higher prices as long as the game is complete. Like instead of making your money on all the micro transaction and whatnot, maybe go shareware like doom, or just charge me 100 for a complete experience. Don't try to charge me 70 for what you would have otherwise charged me $60 and still expect me to do all the micro-tranactions.
My official price rating list: 5$: games where the player has to create the fun, mostly a sand box (GMOD Amongus) 10$ idk, never really played any 15-20 games: this is reserved for multiplayer games or short singleplayer games, also indie games 40 games: for stuff like elden ring 60 dollar games: not buying no matter what, why should buying two games cost the same as my ssd, plus the fact that most of these games are AAA games they most likely have enough money to give to their employees so their paycheck is the same, just less for the higher ups
In my opinion, game prices are usually great due to the play time that they usually have (though exclusively single player games sometimes can be flexible due to the visuals, story, side quests, replayability, new game+ and parts involved in 100%ing it). Most people when working get paid by the hour so if a person were to get $20 an hour, that’s 3 hours to buy a normal average priced game that can give from 20 hours of gameplay to hundreds of hours. 20 hours of content is just $3 an hour which compared to watching a one and a half hour movie at a cinema is a huge difference. Games are usually quite cheap considering the amount of time they usually entertain the players.
I go by the monkey island rule, never buy a game over $20 with and without inflation adjusted. If it's over $20 but under 1990 $20 with inflation($45.71) do your research.
Me personally to make things objective, for a lot of games what I do is see how much a game’s price is and if I enjoyed myself for equal to or over the amount of money spent in hours played ($20 game should be about 20 hours of enjoyment, etc etc.) then that means it would be worth the price to me. Obviously this is just a loose rule of thumb that can be changed according to genre, franchise enjoyment and whatnot but I find it to be pretty helpful in finding a game’s true “value” in general.
I lowkey miss paying $60 fr a game then $15-$20 DLCs because they were actually good. I feel like now games get away with having bad/lazy DLC because a lot of it is free now. There is also barely any content after launch for most games now and it’s spread too far out.
DRG is the best worth, for just buying it u get to experience everything for FREE after first purchase, and it frequently gets a 67% sale like this Summer right now
I'm super against having to buy every cosmetic like with alot of these newer games so i just don't i have only ever bought one cosmetic for a game, a game that actually does this surprisingly well is roller champions the shop updates daily and you have one slot to earn a cosmetic and you can choose any item from the shop and then you just play the game until you earn it. Its super nice and actually encourages you to play the game instead of just grabbing your credit card but if you don't wanna grind or multiple items you want are in the shop you can buy them or you can work your butt off to get them.
I feel although $70 sucks in the us but imagine having t9 pay $90 here in the UK ( £70 ) its horrible we should only pay £55 roughly, but companies think currency is tye same everywhere except when theyre selling it at a lower converted price (e.g. $100 for games in australia so theyre the same price)
Realistically it should be based (imo) on the 4 factors of: hours of gameplay + level of replayability + amount of future content and + amount of available cosmetics (for the last two both free and of charge). From their adding a little on to cover marketing or to treat yourself aint outer worldly but to the big companies screw them. NOTE: a special factor of "is made to be played alone or really only good with friends". Left 4 Dead is a good example as its too expensive to justify convincing 3 other people to buy it (but gamepass saved it player base wise).
I must say that I don't agree with the 60$ price point. Just because it's a hyped sequel, it's not gonna be instantly worth 60$. There are so, so many sequels that are incredibly hyped up because of the original, and end up being more expensive, but are overall worse than the original. Take Dying Light for example. Everyone loved the first game, and it was only 30 bucks. Due to the success of DL1, the sequel was incredibly hyped. It's 60 dollars, and from my experience, 90% of players prefer the original. The game being a sequel to a good game absolutely does NOT justify it costing 60 dollars.
I like to look at the best selling preorders on the PlayStation store, and the best sellers are always the $120-$150 sports game ultimate editions. Or just ultimate and deluxe editions in general.
Seeing Risk Of Rain 2 in this video genuinely surprised me, are you ever thinking about making a video about it Macro? (I love that game with all my heart, pls)
I would much rather pay 60 dollars for a game and be able to unlock every cosmetic for free, then to play a free to play game and have to pay for every cosmetic
Meanwhile the total war warhammer games cost 60 dollars with 100 dollars worth of dlc for the full experience Everything combined costs like 300 to 400 dollars
Honestly now, I really believe no multiplayer game should cost 60 dollars. Battlebit made it clear that with a low entry price PEOPLE DONT HESITATE TO BUY THE GAME
9:18 I'm not a insider of the game industry or anything but I've read that devs/employees that work for big companies really don't get more or less money if a game sells well, they only get to keep their job with them for a longer time and in some cases minor bonuses.
9:24 lol right there it says they crunched devs don't get compensated most of the time. The only one getting the big bucks are the heads of the company.
Since you made a video about video game pricing I'd like a follow up to it talking about genres and how some people believe 2D games or shorter games aren't worth the same price as other games
The big thing a lot of people don't mention is sure the price per game hasn't gone up in like 15 or 20 years but gaming is bigger than ever so they are selling way more units of a game then they ever did 20 years ago. And on top of that games like call of duty or assassins creed sell for $60 and then still have microtransactions in them. These companies are making way more money than they used to which is why if they decide to increase the price people get upset.
TF2 is the best free to play model due to 3 things: - Trading for cosmetics and in game drops - Gameplay loop - Community built maps/modes No other triple A has given players the ability to possibly obtain cosmetics with a form of player economy that anyone can pitch in. Sure it's much tougher now but 5$ and you can have over 20-30 cosmetic items with various levels of detail. With other triple A's, you can only get a color and a helmet with 5$.
honestly 40$ for drg that goes sale to like 10$ i think its worth the 40$ price tag since the devs put so much effort and love into the game but the best part about that game everything free you get most of the things by playing the game the battlepass is kinda good nothing goes away from previous seasons it gets put into cargo crate and lost equipment etc
I've easily gotten well over 60 dollars worth of enjoyment of Free to Play Games, like I have put a lot time into some of these games, and I've gotten more enjoyment out of some of them then some full priced games. As much as I used to despise microtransactions, after Loot Boxes have fallen off they don't bother me as much any more.
Bro it's horrible with currency conversion, in Brazil 60 dollars is litteraly 1/4 of a brazilian minimum wage, it's hell to buy a new console game here.
This is a weird opinion. But after playing TOTK, I kinda agree on it being worth 70$. I have about 200$s of worth from playing it. And honestly, I really really love it. GOTY is what it truly deserves.
"Vote with our wallets" and yet we still give them our money in hopes that things could improve. We as a consumer should take a step back, take off the rose tinted glasses, and look at the bigger picture. We hope things will get better, only to be disappointed time and time again with maybe something good to come. How much money are we really spending on FTP games than actual games with upfront cost and free updates? It is more likely that we spent more than 60$ for cosmetics and sometimes loot boxes and gachas. Insert personal story, I play games on my phone and a couple were gacha games. I spent a lot wanting the character I liked but never got because there is no pity system in place. Long story short, I decided to quit on those ones and only play the ones that have pity systems in them because they genuinely want to keep the players in. I am not gonna bias myself and say every gacha or FTP game is good like the rare few forgiving ones, its just that the good ones actually try to keep their players in by giving them the guarantee at some point.
Most of them charge you over 60$ with passes and DLC chopping the game in pieces. I have one rule: if I enjoy a free to play or a cheap game with cosmetic purchases I will try to spent as much I will enjoyed it... Because I want more games like those or more content for them. I spent a lot of money in Fortney when we play regularly but it feels like you have a new game nearly each 2 or 3 weeks. Instead I stop spending on Apex no matter how beautiful the skins look because I think they are not working enough in improving the game: no, selling new skins in the store is not an event.

You can't accuse totk of being a cash grab as long as games like pokemon scarlet and violet exist which cost 10 dollars less but had less than one year of development time, way less content, an absurd amount of glitches and a dlc that has already been announced only a few months after release which costs 35 Dollars thats 95 dollars for a game that (even with dlc) will probably be worse than totk, now that is what I would consider a cash grab.
@manfredfeigt8928 rdr2 took more than 7 years in development and yet it released on better hardware for 60 dollar less than totk can we please stop defending companies they only care for money this is why I stopped buying new games they put higher prices and people will defend them
@@thelegandgamer2830 I agree that Nintendo shouldn’t be greedy with prices. However, Zelda is my favorite franchise, and nomatter the shitty company that releases a game I’ll buy it. Not in support of the higher ups but in support of the employees who put there heart and soul into developing great games. Fuck Nintendo, but they make great games sorry that I enjoy them.
The thing is it’s not just USD u guys should think about. Like Yen or wan or even Canadian dollars, honestly 5 dollars would be amazing for everyone
My official price rating list:
5$: games where the player has to create the fun, mostly a sand box (GMOD Amongus)
10$ idk, never really played any
15-20 games: this is reserved for multiplayer games or short singleplayer games, also indie games
40 games: for stuff like elden ring
60 dollar games: not buying no matter what, why should buying two games cost the same as my ssd, plus the fact that most of these games are AAA games they most likely have enough money to give to their employees so their paycheck is the same, just less for the higher ups
We need to talk about “next gen”games being $70 on console, but only $60 on pc.
Just started watching u again macro love ur vids
I’d say 65$ should be max that 70$ hurts me
This would've been such a great video if the devs actually implemented these prices 😭😭
Macro dropping banger after banger these weeks
Aint no way he saying Crash is Unoriginal. Like has he played a Crash bandicoot game in the last 10 years? They have been popping off
In my opinion, game prices are usually great due to the play time that they usually have (though exclusively single player games sometimes can be flexible due to the visuals, story, side quests, replayability, new game+ and parts involved in 100%ing it).
Some who actually gets it.
I live in Canada and that 60 is actually 80 here and it hurts my soul to hear that it might become 70 usd (90 Cad)
DRG is the best worth, for just buying it u get to experience everything for FREE after first purchase, and it frequently gets a 67% sale like this Summer right now
whats drg
@@saatvikkalra6061Bit late, Deep Rock Galactic, from Macro previous video
I'm super against having to buy every cosmetic like with alot of these newer games so i just don't i have only ever bought one cosmetic for a game, a game that actually does this surprisingly well is roller champions the shop updates daily and you have one slot to earn a cosmetic and you can choose any item from the shop and then you just play the game until you earn it. Its super nice and actually encourages you to play the game instead of just grabbing your credit card but if you don't wanna grind or multiple items you want are in the shop you can buy them or you can work your butt off to get them.
ur videos are so good
I feel although $70 sucks in the us but imagine having t9 pay $90 here in the UK ( £70 ) its horrible we should only pay £55 roughly, but companies think currency is tye same everywhere except when theyre selling it at a lower converted price (e.g.
Left 4 Dead is a good example as its too expensive to justify convincing 3 other people to buy it (but gamepass saved it player base wise).
the 2 games that also can be for 60 dollars are crownsworn and silksong they are so polished and big names in their francise aka metroidvania
I’m really enjoying these videos that don’t specifically about a game and talk about a concept
To me:
60: huge content filled single player games (GOW, LOU, Fallout)
45: FPS games
30: Fighter games
Lower: Indie games
I would much rather pay 60 dollars for a game and be able to unlock every cosmetic for free, then to play a free to play game and have to pay for every cosmetic
you forgot Destiny 2 being F2P, having $200 in DLC and a large amount of micro transactions
It's pretty crazy how Terraria costs 10$. I have over 1000 hours in that game and I still play it from time to time.
Meanwhile the total war warhammer games cost 60 dollars with 100 dollars worth of dlc for the full experience
Everything combined costs like 300 to 400 dollars
Honestly now, I really believe no multiplayer game should cost 60 dollars. Battlebit made it clear that with a low entry price PEOPLE DONT HESITATE TO BUY THE GAME
9:18 I'm not a insider of the game industry or anything but I've read that devs/employees that work for big companies really don't get more or less money if a game sells well, they only get to keep their job with them for a longer time and in some cases minor bonuses.
9:24 lol right there it says they crunched devs don't get compensated most of the time. The only one getting the big bucks are the heads of the company.
Have you played battle block theater? Its from the same creators or castle crashers, and its REALLY GOOD!
Gotta love how he mentioned castle crashers 🥲😭
Since you made a video about video game pricing I'd like a follow up to it talking about genres and how some people believe 2D games or shorter games aren't worth the same price as other games
Macro can you please do a video about your only move is hustle its the GOAT of indie games
0:46 KING TACOOOOOO
I’m loving these video essays man
Don’t forget about the new $70 and above games!😂
Baulders Gate 3 looks like the only game id ever spend 70$ on fr
The big thing a lot of people don't mention is sure the price per game hasn't gone up in like 15 or 20 years but gaming is bigger than ever so they are selling way more units of a game then they ever did 20 years ago. And on top of that games like call of duty or assassins creed sell for $60 and then still have microtransactions in them. These companies are making way more money than they used to which is why if they decide to increase the price people get upset.
Games shouldn't have the right to cost so much nowadays mainly because most of them are unfinished
TF2 is the best free to play model due to 3 things:
- Trading for cosmetics and in game drops
- Gameplay loop
- Community built maps/modes
No other triple A has given players the ability to possibly obtain cosmetics with a form of player economy that anyone can pitch in. Sure it's much tougher now but 5$ and you can have over 20-30 cosmetic items with various levels of detail. With other triple A's, you can only get a color and a helmet with 5$.
Macro mentioning wants me wanna see a video of hit indie titles like GH HK and DRG
(I don't know about DRG being indie)
My man did not compare Crash Bandicoot to Assassins Creed
In Canada, the Ps3/360 era games were $60 CAD, but since ps4, xbox one, they’ve been $80
Here in central europe the games are already at 80€ thats around 88$
I’m wondering how much better apex would be if it was a regular 60 buck game
Everything Macro said in this video: EXACTLY! period
Macro you dropped this: 👑
honestly 40$ for drg that goes sale to like 10$ i think its worth the 40$ price tag since the devs put so much effort and love into the game
but the best part about that game everything free you get most of the things by playing the game the battlepass is kinda good nothing goes away from previous seasons it gets put into cargo crate and lost equipment etc
Me basically:
20 dollars: neat lil game
40 dollars: meh
60 dollars: okay, this MIGHT be actually good
I've easily gotten well over 60 dollars worth of enjoyment of Free to Play Games, like I have put a lot time into some of these games, and I've gotten more enjoyment out of some of them then some full priced games. As much as I used to despise microtransactions, after Loot Boxes have fallen off they don't bother me as much any more.
It's 2023 but i still miss hyperscape. RIP Hyperscape😞
Bro it's horrible with currency conversion, in Brazil 60 dollars is litteraly 1/4 of a brazilian minimum wage, it's hell to buy a new console game here.
MACRO, PLAY DECIEVE INC I PROMISE ITS SUCH A GOOD SHOOTER/SPY GAME, it is underrated and it would greatly help the game if you would do a video on it.
a triple a game runs me nearly 100 of my canadian dollars, it's rough out here
“Mario, Smash Bros, ZELDA.”
TOTK costs $70.
2:31 Macro just casully pulls out a 9 on the crowd
This is a weird opinion. But after playing TOTK, I kinda agree on it being worth 70$. I have about 200$s of worth from playing it. And honestly, I really really love it. GOTY is what it truly deserves.
in Europe prices definitely went up used to. be 50 now its more on the 70+ side
I was here before 5 minutes! Also great video kept up the good work 👍
