- It's an EPIC finale to the QOTSA performance at the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles on May 24, 2001. They saved the best song for last. This clip clocks in at nearly ten minutes and starts with Josh Homme banging his head against the mic and just gets better. All the QOTSA dynamics are here -- the intricate stop/starts, the jazzy Prog changes, the funky blues riffing and the stratospheric vocals. This is my final post from this show, recorded exactly seven years ago, shortly after the release of the Rated R album. Hope you dug the clips as much as I did shooting them. Thanks for watching!

I was here, GREAT SHOW. I swear I saw Legendary Skateboarder Mark Gonzales in the pit right up front & he didn't want the show to stop.
Neither did I!
This guitar of josh's has kicked so many asses around the world
I was there. A truly memorable night especially having gotten fired from my burger stand job for flying to LA at 18 to see it. Fatso Jetson opened.
Dude, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this! I've always thought that, of all guitarists, Josh really "gets" what made Hendrix special which was soul and life in the notes, not just simple notes.
Gene Trautmann. Left in 02. He's been playing lately with Eagles of Death Metal.
I was there the crowd was great, youre fucking wrong.
Fuck yeah!!i miss this times, when they had pure rock running on their vains...
This is the best version of Mexicola ever played. I love how on the breakdown/extended bridge Josh and Nick are just looking at each other and the two musicians are just on the same page creating art as they go. Vocals and everything else sound super sharp here too.
Mankind will not forget this favor, my friend. Thanks to you, everyone can listen to one of the coolest recordings ever.
Shouldn't Josh get some more credit on how fucking good he was at guitar? It was something else.
*is
He worships the sun God, didn't sell his soul out to santa
Son of !!#@!
Shit i love how after the slow part Gene just fucking rocks it. great vid man, thanks!
This stuff was the best Queens, when they were doing 15 minute You Can't Quit Me's and toying with the dynamics and length of Mexicola and Regular John. Jam Band Queens.
This felt like it was at a gazillion different tempos, but I actually... like it?
Is there any way for providing me a lossless transfer from that video? Please contact me 🙏. Would be great to list that show on my QotSA info site!
aren't all their songs awesome?
Jesse Hughes talking at 7:23 ??????
@pimplimo if you think era vulgaris is bad then like clockwork is horrible. i like everything by qotsa up until like clockwork. i only like about 3 songs off Like Clockwork sadly.
i really miss the old lineup(s) especially nick oliveri and joey castillo and mark lanegan.
I thought Era Vulgaris had some great songs on it, and was overall a great album, although not as strong as earlier material. Like Clockwork was a disappointment to me as well, there are some cool moments on the songs and some interesting song writing, but it totally lacks the energy of the old lineup(s). Qotsa without Nick Oliveri and Joey Castillo is basically just the Josh Homme band.
haha i feel almost the same. the first 5 records are perfect and my favorite stuff ever (still some better than others). the last two are, at best, less original than the rest.
awesome fucking vids man... wish i could have witnessed this in person. this show was exactly 2 weeks before my 21st bday. thankfully u got these sweeeet vids for all of us to enjoy
What´s the drummer´s name?
Gene Trautmann
Excellent video! Great work!
Full Show ??? PLEASEEEEEEEEE
fucking fantastic
1:52 nicely done cameraman.
@ConiferTreez
With all respect to Troutman, I like Homme's collaborations with Dave Grohl even better.
@bentleybt I don't know if thats a joke cuz I have no idea what he looks like
#HolyCrapBestVersion of #Mexicola I HAVE EVER SEEN/HEARD/WEPT FOR
D:
@TaffyRaphie No that's him - or how he looked about 10 years ago.
@TaffyRaphie That's Brian Wilson from the Beach Boys.
@bentleybt thanks!
Disagree.
Who is that a picture of that you zoomed in on at about 4:00 in?
Brian Wison
That crowd is a tad annoying.
