  • “I’m Gonna Go Back” (the complete LP) features the voice of Jack Holcomb along with Ralph Carmichael’s Orchestra and Chorus. This album was a big departure for Jack, who typically used only piano and organ as instrumental accompaniment. Recording for the Zondervan, RCA Victor, Sacred, Word and Canaan labels, he was designated as “Mr. Gospel Music” by RCA in 1963. This project, the only one he created with Ralph, was released in 1963 by Word Records. The song list includes: “Where No One Stands Alone,” “Don’t Spare Me,” “The Healer,” “I’m Gonna Go Back” (written by Ralph), “It Thrills Me So,” “It Was Jesus,” “It Matters to Him,” “The Old Time Religion,” “I Will Not Question” and “His Name Is Wonderful.” Sadly, Jack died from heart failure in 1968 at only 46 years of age.

My Mom and Dad had all of his albums. Of course as a teenager I wasn’t in to it then. How time changes things, brings back great memories of my parents.

One more comment. Where did all the good Christian music go? It seems the music in most churches today is so lame. So sad!
