this was my first of many, though, in school at the time, i saw very little of it..i do, however, have a vague recollection of the courtroom revelation when the actual killer was revealed......
Oh, my memory of that day is very vivid. When I realized that Debbie Martin recognized the DRESS and not the mannequin's face (which looked like Nicole) and then realized Pamela Stewart was wearing the same dress …. WOW. I was in school at the time too, but fortunately "Edge" came on at 3:30 and I was usually home by then. Totally glued to the screen for the entire storyline and remember so clearly the scene when Nicole's stalker was revealed, the day Stephanie was stabbed to death, Debbie screaming "Pull it out!" and therefore Nicole getting her fingerprints on the murder weapon … oh, it was all such great television.
@@ChipL955 unfortunately, in my area, Edge aired at 2:30, so i missed a lot!..i do remember the courtroom revelation and the way Pamela sat very still as Debbie pointed the finger at her..i was confused about Pamela's relationship to Dwayne until i realized her motivation for wanting to kill Nicole was jealousy, since Dwayne may have still had feelings for Nicole..exciting stuff to think back on!!!......
And the Wednesday after the reveal of the real murdered, I remember Pamela confessing to the murder at police headquarters. She expressed her horror when she realized she had stabbed the wrong person, but when Nicole was arrested for the murder, she said, chillingly, "I had accomplished … what I had set out … to do." Irene Dailey was really fantastic in the role of Pamela.
@@ChipL955 Wasn't this a great storyline? I was 11 yrs old and also glued to our new color TV in Rhode Island. There were so many suspects which made it even better. Cookie Christopher was even one lol Remember the scenes with Stephanie's character imagining inviting Nicole to her place for dinner and having her open a present at the table. I think it was a knife that Stephanie was going to use to kill her. And the scene where Stephanie is taking aim to shoot Nicole from a nearby apt window, but shoots Nancy Karr instead - brilliant. The promos leading up to the reveal of the murderer - "Who killed Stephanie Martin?, find out this week on The Edge of Night" ha ha Gee you think I liked this soap's storyline??? lol
If only they had saved these shows instead of wiping them out, they would have made a mint!!!! I couldn't watch Edge because it came on at 1:30 where I grew up and I didn't get out of school until 3:00. My Aunt would fill me in on what happened. I remember a promo coming on the week Stephanie's killer was revealed saying, "find out this week on the Edge of Night!!!!" I begged my mom to let me get out early from school to watch but she said no as she was very strict. But I found out from my Aunt who lived down the road from us that it was Pamela who had killed Stephanie thinking she was Nicole. Great memories! Then came the great Jonah Lockwood story, followed by the haunting of the Marceau home, and the Liz/Elly Jo Jamison story! All superb writing!
i wish they'd saved these shows; but from what I understand, no one saw any value in saving these shows..it makes sense: I mean, whoever thought in terms of these shows going into reruns..the only shows I know that were preserved was DooL, RH, TD and Dark Shadows..the rest are nothing but memories - and the silly fantasy about going back in time and taking a VCR with me!.....
Loved the Stephanie Martin-Nicole Travis storyline from when Stephanie tried killing Nicole by shooting her(shooting Nancy Karr instead) thru to the end of the trial discovering Pamela Stuart (Irene Daily) was the murderess. Love the Jonah Lockwood/Keith Whitney storyline. Thought the Marceau haunting was boring and dragged out.
actually, it's only 40s..but, over the years, running into these snippets now and again, triggers my memory for other things, other aspects of these stories..i hope this does the same thing for everyone else..nothing like reliving these good ol' days......
