Lukes my nephew he is a man of his word . Hes got a lot more evolving to do. His family is so incredibly proud of him. we have been for a long time . Best father , sportsman and a incredibly humble human he was raised hard but the right way. Much love my lad ❤
He would need to apply for a 'green card' before anything like that? Australians can't work in America without the visa and being a RTR driver i would assume would definitely be a paid gig
IIRC theres a 1 year and a 5 year working visa which you can turn into a regular visa, if you got an employer that helps you? still looking into that because i wanna move over too... @@stylepoints.180
We gotta all get together and build a new track. Can't ask luke to do anymore but damn right he'd show us how. We got the ppl and they're spending good money. I can see a business case but idk how to present it. We gotta have a homie who does that shit for a living.
Speaking of crown vic drift cars, another beginner car that I see a lot of people overlooking right now are the V6 mustangs, although I will admit I don't have first hand experience, all the videos and discussion I've seen show they've got enough power and torque to slide while not blowing the tires off in two or three laps. They're also seemingly a great starting point when it comes to getting your first experiences wrenching on your own ride while not breaking the bank. For all the research I've done over the years deciding if this sport is something that I'd seriously want to get involved in, this seems like the easiest and most realistic starting point. Also, if the time comes where your skills are limited by the lack of power, swapping over to a V8 wouldn't be nearly as difficult as, for example, V8 swapping a Z chassis. (Again, these are admittedly all assumptions, but ones based off data I've collected from people who have much more experience than myself.) Thank you for reading my overly obsessive theoretical ramblings lmao
I started getting into watching and learning about drifting while saving to move to aus. I got to see a few practice sessions and watch Naoki at archy and it was some of the best times I've ever had. Hearing what car he learned in has made me feel better about me trying to learn in a Holden commodore ute v6 auto.
From attending the first ever car show held on the original go kart track to being at the last ever drift event, Archy has been part of my life. I lived about 20 minutes away so it was very easy to go down and watch. I was only ever a spectator but it still was an amazing point in time to be present for. I have gone from asking my parents to take me, to driving there as a learner driver, to driving myself, to driving there to spectate with my wife. I have brought at least 30 of my friends along over the years, for many of them it was the first time they had ever seen drifting in real life. All the nights coming home with rubber and dirt on face, teeth, clothes and in your hair, maybe even a broken tail light trophy to put on the garage wall, ears ringing and face muscles sore from smiling. Always a good time. The only drift place that treated you like an adult and let you stand about 12 inches away from the track walls, the only place that had a fun day and gave out water balloons for the spectators to throw at the AU drift cars while they drifted, the only place that didn't enforce any kind of "vehicle inspection", giving guys from low income backgrounds the ability to enjoy drifting and forget their worries for a couple hours. Truly a car playground for the factory worker, you would see guys in work uniforms covered in dirt from welding or diesel fitting all day, they have been up since 4am and put in a 10 hour shift, drive directly from work in their street registered $800 AU or BA Ford Falcon drift car, tires in the back seat and strapped to the roof, drift from 4pm to 8pm, load the car back up with dead tires and see which ones have the most tread left to semi legally drive home, drive out the gates and get finally get home at 9:30pm. For many, the only car they had was their drift car, it was a tool for happiness and a tool for work. No trailer needed when your drive your drift car to the event and back but these guys had no other option. I will truly miss that place, so many memories spanning from my childhood to my early 30s, I ended up buying a bunch of Archerfield Drift Park stickers, I have one on all my cars, Luke really changed more lives than he gives himself credit before. I got to chat with Luke a few times, sometimes he was busy and would give a short but polite answer, other times when things around the track was a bit more relaxed, he had plenty of time to chat, explain and generally make it feel like it was just big crew of mates hanging out, even the people watching felt part of the action and scene. Thanks for having him on the podcast, he is very humble about his skill level and the want to teach others so willingly is something to be admired.
That place sounds like a drift paradise. Its sad that it closed down but the sport of drifting will keep on growing and hopefully there will be more tracks opening up around the globe. Thanks for sharing your story. We appreciate it and we need more people to share their experiences and welcome the new generation of drifters.
Luke is such an absolute aussie legend! Can't thank Luke, his wife, family and the whole Archy team etc enough for everything they did keeping the track alive for as long as they could! Got to do 3 beginner events in my dream s13 and had the absolute time of my life! Archy will be forever missed and it's a HUGE loss to Queensland drifting!
still watching this video 2 weeks later, trying to soak up all the knowledge i can from the one and only! Luke man you are literally the most aggressive drifter I know, im right there with you, i have still to this day never put a handbrake in any of my vehicles, even in my 1.6 miata, flicking that bih was the only way i could confidently initiate and know exactly where my assend was gonna end up

To the handbrake thing, it’s absolutely incredible how much faster I progressed when I got a z that the handbrake didn’t work. I got busy and never got around to fixing it. In the last 3 months I think I progressed further than the last 6 years.

I've been saying this for a while now, unironically think if luke took chelsea's spot things would go real smoothly, luke is a very adept driver.
