If they added a rear pole it would work in low wind conditions. For $250 the company should add this feature at no additional cost.

I don’t disagree. We talked about that too when it wasn’t windy enough.

Looking at options now. We have the Neso and it’s great for non windy days. Looking for something to use when it really windy out. I think it’s a bit pricey.

That’s great! We bought one on Amazon and it’s good as well. The only downside is you have 4 bags u have to fill with sand. But still way lighter than a big canopy

Which one did you get? Was it like the Sun Ninja I posted?

Thank you for your video. I saw a Shibumi on the beach yesterday. I asked how much it cost (you are right about the owners) and the owner replied not much, around $250. I gulped. It was blowing about 18 mph and the Shibumi was pretty noisy with all that flapping around. My tent which is a 10x10 easy up type with aluminum structure was $100. It was about at it's max wind ability even with a spare anchor tied to it on the upwind side. It is relatively heavy but I only have to carry it about 20 feet away from my boat which is beached. My primary interest in Shibumi is for when I travel to other beaches and the incredible portability. I'll keep looking...

Check out the Sun Ninja instead. Here is my review of that one. ua-cam.com/video/m6p4Trj3g3I/v-deo.html

Lots of DIY UA-cam videos on making a Shibumi for $80. Looks easy and fast (under 1 hour)

The pole needs to be pretty long.

Great review. Yea, a little pricey for me. Do the company’s that send you items to review make you return them or did they give you a $250 item for the review. Just wondering

    • @TightWadDIY

Thanks Jon. They give me the item and I do a review. I offer to return the product if I don’t like it and opt not to do a review.

I'm glad you are reviewing these options. The Shibumi is popular, but we won't be buying it because of the price and it only comes in one color!

I do think they would sell more if they offered more colors and reduced the price to $199.

Simply tie a piece of cord to each tail corner and stake it into the sand on no-wind days

    • @TightWadDIY
      @TightWadDIY  Рік тому

I’m theory that works but the sail doesn’t provide much shade when set up that way. Also, this was reviewing how the manufacturer intended it to be used. They don’t supply any additional cords or a way to easily attach them.

@@TightWadDIY Hi I am 61 and I bought the smaller one. It's usually just me or a friend using it and it's more than enough room. I like that it's not heavy I can actually put it in my beach bag and I can put it up by myself. It was still 200 but it's worth not to be dealing with umbrellas flying away and the weight works for me.

For that price point the canopy shouldn't fade in the sun.

I didn’t notice any faded Shibumi shades on the beach.

I worked on the beach everyday for 10 years. I’ve seen a bazillion shade solutions. I’m sorry but this is completely ineffective.
The hottest scorching days, plenty of them, have zero breeze. The wind switches direction relentlessly. Trying to relax on the beach while constantly contemplating adjusting my over priced shade would suck the joy out a beach trip. No Thank You.

It’s great for days with a steady breeze though! I have this and a Sun Ninja. I set this up on days with a good breeze and the Sun Ninja on others.
