  • This extra large beach shade design does not need a sandbag and cord in front to hold it up. Using two 11ft by 9ft beach blankets provides up to 200 square feet of shade. To hold it in the sand, I used 2 beach umbrella lower poles from beach umbrellas that were being thrown away. The arch poles are 20ft of heavy-duty aluminum poles, although fiberglass poles could also work. The aluminum poles are stronger, stiffer and corrosion-resistant. The leading edge pocket pass-through for the tent pole was made using strong double-sided fabric tape, so no sewing was necessary.

    ▼ WHERE TO BUY PARTS:
    ▶ Tent Poles - 25 feet in length (These are large diameter and strong. 25ft is needed for 2 beach blankets. Leave out 3 sections to make it 20ft if only using 1 beach blanket for a smaller shade) - amzn.to/3sp8VPf
    ▶ Fabric (microfiber beach blanket works great and is quieter than Silpoly rip-stop fabric) - amzn.to/3oQ35s7
    ▶ Fabric Tape (No Sew) - amzn.to/3qA04wy
    ▶ 2 beach umbrella lower poles (harvested from old/broken beach umbrellas. They get thrown away all the time at the beach)
    ▶ Sand Gopher (Sand digger tool for beach umbrella hole) - amzn.to/3NlfRIu
    I posted a previous video of a smaller (but still quite large) version that only used 1 beach blanket. See how it's made and how to set it up - • Homemade DIY Beach Sha...

    This may be silly, but why do you only mark the thread at 70% of length of poles?

    • @engineerable
      @engineerable  13 днів тому +3

      So that the elastic cord will stretch the remaining 30% to keep the poles tight.

    Did you use 2 of the standard beach mats (96 x 85) or the large size (128 x 109)?

    I just have two 14 feet tent poles. How can I attach them?

    • @engineerable
      @engineerable  25 днів тому

      Shorten them so they are 20-25 ft and connect them together. 14 ft poles will be smaller in diameter and more flimsy than poles intended for 20-25ft lengths.

    what happens when the wind stops blowing?

    • @engineerable

      Tie out the rear corner edges. It only takes a small breeze to keep this aloft. Haven't had a no breeze day at the beach yet

      Have you ever been to the beach? That's the nice thing about it. It's always breezy.

      At the beach?

      Fair question, I have some similar to this and there's an anchoring option. On the corners have Para cords that could be used to anchor down. It becomes a tent and yes not all beaches get a breeze all the time.

    That’s pretty cool but I am going to bet some time soon some idiot will say you’re damaging the beach ecosystem by digging those holes.

      😂, well, they'll have to ban beach umbrellas then too.

      I wanna say we're helping? Aerates the sand, and other animals burrow into it, too. Interesting argument, tho. Let us know if you DO hear about it, LOL. Would like to hear the reasons.

      @@dyscea I was trying to sound “tongue-in-cheek.” I really need to work on that. It’s looks like a great product, in all honesty!
