Amazing timing. He got over 50 seconds of laughter just for saying 'I saw these Siamese elephants'. Then starts the 'joined at the ends' part but can't finish and gets another 10 seconds. But when he does get it out the second time he doesn't pause long. The rest of his timing is perfect too. He was brilliant.
In his last book Tim tells a bunch of his funniest old showbiz stories, the last one being this sketch. After quoting Vicki's last line, he concludes the book by saying "Yes, I am".
My mother was finally recovered from chemo and a double mastectomy when this aired,there's two versions of this and this wasn't the one that made it on TV but,the whole family was laughing again. This will always hold a special place in my heart.
When I was a kid I'd beg my parents to stay up and watch him. He was one of the last of the great tv comedians like Bernie Kovacs, Benny Hill, Jonathan Winters, Don Rickles, Foster Brooks, etc.
OMG, all winners. I work with Foster Brooks's grandson. Amazon Prime had all the old Dean Martin celebrity roasts and Brooks was a common roaster. So I let him know in case he had missed some of his grandfather's work.

With just 7 words she blew three comic legends flat out. If that hadn't been their last year I can't imagine the monster of comedy they'd have unleashed there.

Carol was taking her chances by trying to take a drink while in the middle of that skit....knowing the way things went on that show, she could have choked to death laughing when she did.
I remember watching this as a kid. I'm in my 50s now. I tell this story 4 or 5 times a year. I get the craziest looks every time. Thank you Tim Conway.

I have seen 2 versions of this outtake...... Vicky delivers her classic line differently in the other... I mean she says the same thing "Are you sure that little a-hole's through" but she says it in a different tone of voice, slower and more drawn out instead of the fast way she blurts it out here.... I dunno HOW they did that if this was improvised
Reminds me of one time when Carson introduced a young comic and the camera cut to him on the stage, long hair, wire rim glasses, wearing running shoes and athletic shorts with bandaging tape on his chest, one centered vertical stripe and a few horizontal ones, and he's holding a spear and has this bone thing in his nose that looks like a little Texas longhorn, and he starts doing a standard, uninspired stand up routine, throwaway one-liners. After a few of these, he says, "You realize I'm the only thing on NBC right now? This is NBC's idea of entertainment." Camera cuts to Johnny Carson falling off his chair laughing

I recall that my parents disliked these characters because of how ugly and rude they were to each other. But they were laughing as hard as anybody else at this skit. The Carol Burnett show, The Smothers Brothers, Laugh-in. These shows were my introduction to sketch comedy and i consider myself very lucky to have grown up with them.
Abbott and Costello are together, Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis are together and now Harvey Korman and Tim Conway are together. And eternity is on the floor dying from all the laughter.

Unrelated but this brings back another memory of when Eunice performed on the Gong Show and she quickly got the gong. I don't recall if that was on the Carol Burnett show or after Mama's family got it's own show but that specific scene taught me a lot about empathy.
Vicki Lawrence had a mostly unheralded role a couple of years ago in the madcap sitcom "Great News", as the friend of Carol (wonderfully played by Andrea Martin). She has one scene where she's describing her recent transvaginal mesh operation, with an icepack between her legs. Glorious.

Unfortunately this is the sensitive generation where everyone gets mad about everything but does nothing to help. I think this sketch is awesome and cannot be beaten by anyone of today's so called comics. These people are iconic and epic and completely irreplaceable. I've always heard the mark of a great comedian is one who can laugh at their own jokes and I believe that just adds to the funny factor of the skits. Keep making people laugh, the world needs more laughs and less hate.
She was a very funny person as well! Decades ago I was at her place on a photo shoot. We were carrying light stands and other equipment into her place and on one trip in through the door I saw a cat run out of the house. I was a little alarmed that we might have let her pet escape so I immediately asked her, "Does your cat go out?" Without missing a beat she said, "Yes. But not with you." I cracked up instantly.
It was genius how Tim Conway would wait until they all started to regain their composure then deliver the next line and destroy them again.
For sure, that is what made him one of the best.
Tim was a master at comedy.

I told this joke story to a group of people once. They all got mad at me. They didn't want to imagine the elephants in pain.
