I’ve been getting huge trigger points in this muscle right tight to my spine around the last two ribs. I’ve been laying on a lacrosse ball and it hurts but the tension melts when I let off but the knots always come back not much later. What do I do about it?
If you just treat the trigger point and do not do anything to work with what caused the trigger point it will always come back. It is hard to say what exactly will help you specifically but generally speaking you want to follow a release with stretching and working on any muscle imbalances or alignment issues that are causing the trigger point. For example, having a weak core and weak glutes (in the example of a lower crossed syndrome) can cause more tension and tightness on the lower back so in this case, start strengthening your core and glutes to add more lumbar spinal stability in order to prevent them from coming back.
I'm using my massage gun on it. Seems to get it. Can't really get at it with a tennis ball or golf ball. My thumb can get it. Really sensitive tissue the last 5-6 days or so. Hope I can get rid of this asap.
that might be why it has been 2 years I have this deep ache on my lower back when I bend forward, my range of motion is super limited, i can t surf anymore (pop up kills me), can t do a burpee, nothing shows on scan.. how do you release those muscles?
Hi Mat, The first thing is to make sure which structures are involved and why. It may be muscle, nerve, joint, disc or a combination. For any number of reasons. Once it has been properly assessed you will then be in a better position to address the problem correctly For more information or to find a therapist please visit our website www.nielasher.com
So a trigger point is a protective spasm? Well that's just a protective spasm. A few Slow Eccentric Isotonic Stretches (SEIS) done regularly may sort that out. So what is a trigger point?
I'm not what muscles are causing the pain but thats the area where I have pian and I can't find ANY videos that show pian in those areas! I have to be standing to find the 'trigger point" its a VERY small localized spot and reverse arching my back is when I feel it the most, sometimes doing child's pose ill feel it but reverse back arching gives me that "good hurt". When I wake up in the morning that area is SO STIFF and painful but goes away in less then 10mins of waking up. I don't even have to move much.

Same here. But if I use the ball it makes the pain worse. Absolutely kills.
