I tried socks a few weeks ago...scrapped it like 3 times! Am currently committed to finishing up a blanket and I’ll come back to this video when I’m ready to revisit :)
Thank you Mikey! I have been crocheting for 35 years and I've learned so much more watching your videos! You've helped me expand my skills and knowledge!
Thank you for the pattern and tutorial. It was easy to follow and understand as a non English speaker and crochet beginner. I have just finished it as a Christmas gift for my boyfriend. I’m sure he likes it. Big thanks from Japan.
Wow, I love it! Thank you. I'm also loving your new innovative style of tutorials broken down into sections from beginning to end! You take the guesswork out of lessons and give us a complete lesson and for free!!! Thank you, thank you!!!
I finished my first pair of socks, I did the ladies 7/8 and it's a bit big, but the 5/6 is perfect. I found however that it does take almost 3 balls of Paton's sock yarn for the ladies 5/6 and definitely 3 balls for the ladies 7/8. I really like my socks, the first pair I did are a bit gnarly, uneven seams etc, but I think they're cool. The pair I'm working on now are much better -- using the sunset stripes and it's beautiful. Oh, and I 'm a bare beginner and I found the pattern very doable with several frog outs.
Mikey, never worry about adding your own suggestions-- at least, in my opinion! I find 99.9% of the time they are wonderful! Highlighting the chosen size is a great idea! I never thought of doing that and have even avoided patterns that do this because I find it so confusing. Thank you!
Ok Mikey- I am jumping in! I have some beautiful hand dyed yarn that is begging to be made into socks. I just have to remember to breathe! 😃 thank you for all of your insights and confidence building!! You are amazing!
The men’s sock is huge. Great tutorial and not for beginners, though it’s my first try at socks. When halfway through the instep I scrapped it. Making a men’s sock for my husband but the toe portion is too huge. It’s more like a slipper, even with given gauge, hook etc. Am going to try women’s size 😅 I want the socks loose but to still fit like a sock. Great tutorial Mikey.
Love the video! It added much clarification to the written instructions. But I have to say that your instructions for the 3rd round of the cuff indicate putting a double crochet in the ch-1 space, however, the written instructions that accompany this video say “1 dc in next missed sc 1 rnd below.” That’s very different and I wonder if it makes much difference in the look. Probably not but just wanted to point out the need to possibly update the written instructions. Also, I’m finding the need for 3 skeins of Patons sock yarn for Ladies 5/6 pattern. I know that amount of yarn is dependent on the tension of one’s crocheting. Just glad that I bought an extra skein than the pattern called for (which I always do for any pattern). Can’t wait to see my finished socks!
This was a great video!!! I have been crocheting for the last 15-ish years and have only made washcloths and a few blankets...using only a single crochet. This video was SO easy to follow, and now I am hooked. I can't wait to make more socks for like everyone!
One sock in and another to go. First time sock crocheting and this video tutorial was so helpful! I gauged down to a 2.5 hook and used KC sockstar yarn. Came out perfect with a starting chain of 15 and just followed the increases and decreases from there.
I Love you Mikey! I have been sitting up here with the Kroy Sock Yarn that I purchased a couple of years ago and have Never make the socks I promised to make. I didn't have enough confidence in myself. And then Mikey comes along while I'm sitting here drinking my morning Coffee with my yarn bag besides me, wondering what to work on or try to make today! lol, I look at my phone and see a UA-cam Video notification from Mikey talking about making SOCKS! I'm so Happy, you should see my smile! Let me go pull my yarn out the bottom of the stash bag! You're Awesome Mikey! I pray that Dan is Healthy, Healed & Happy! Thank you for sharing your talent with us!
Interesting ribbing variation! You can bury that end vertically, rather than horizantally at the ribbing, without losing any stretchability. I do like that you took care of the hole!
Thank you so much for a great tutorial, so helpful! I could not have figured it out with the written pattern only. With your help, I have successfully completed my first pair of crochet socks.
I love your videos. Best tutorials out there very thorough and so diverse. I'm young and no one I know crochets that an help so I watchtower videos over and over until I get it right. So helpful!!
Ive been crocheting for 4 years now, and I would consider this pattern intermediate. The first sock was tricky, but the second one was much easier after getting the hang of it.
I have had 3 skein of sock yarn for a long time and have tried to make several different pattern and her frog them all. even though it was 2 a.m. I saw this video and had to watch it. I am so glad I did this was terrific. I also think with all the Stitch markers that your method could also be applied two other sock patterns. this is the best video I have watch and believe me I think I've watched all of them on UA-cam!
I crochet socks before, but I love yours I like the way u did the heel this is the first time to see this method, nice & clean finishing. Thanks for sharing God bless
Hello, Mikey, I just want to thank you for your tutorials. You are so incredibly talented at instructing. I’m self taught and owe it to you! Happy holidays to you and yours!
Totally agree with you. Mikey is a great instructor. He explains the overall concept of patterns and breaks them down and explains that break down so clearly, I love to watch his work. He has explained so many patterns that, with others, I just feel lost. At this point, if I find something new and want it explained better, I go to his channel and look it up to see if he's done a video about it. Thank you, Mikey!
I'm going for it! I've been practicing with the smaller hook for a scarf and am ready - hehehe - the video is very helpful and I loved all your tips. Without it, the pattern would be quite difficult for me. Boom! Thank you!
Fabulous!!!!!! I've been looking for a great tutorial for socks. As always, you explain so well and immediately answered all my questions in the beginning before even starting. ☺ Thank you Thank you Thank you. 😃 Can't wait to try & make these.
Thank you for this tutorial. I'm free handing a pair of slippers for my best friend and needed your guidance on how to do a heel. I enjoy watching your tutorials while I'm snuggling my 7 month old son at night. It puts him to sleep, and I get to learn new techniques 😊
hi, not sure you ever found the answer but I did the moccasin slippers that mikey has on video(grey with white ) and he has a diagram on this video to understand and do the heel as well as the rest ..made it so very easy!! hope you have things figured out and still having happy hooker experiences giggle
I know you were not very comfy with the angle you were at, but you've gotten so fast over the past couple of years, that I've come to appreciate whatever slows you down :-)
Now, that I finally have a crochet sock pattern, I am planning to make some socks (after I get some yarn) I have a book of knit sock patterns but they were so confusing, so I decided that if I could ever find a pattern that I understood (I figured it would be a crochet pattern), I would make a pair of socks, well, looks like I found that pattern!! So, I know what I'm making for Christmas gifts! Thanks for sharing this with us!!
I’m almost finished with my first sock and I was thinking they were really big. I can’t try it on because it won’t go up over my heel. Too tight. I think I’m going to have to go up to an F hook instead of the D I’m using.
I am working on the bigger kid size using the same yarn as the pattern does and the same hook size he's using in the video. It's so big it will probably fit my boy and I am trying to make them for my girl... He ain't gonna do purple either so I dunno imma have to toss it in the donation pile. I guess I'm going to go down a hook size and do the smaller kid size for the princess!
Absolutely agree on the sizes. Was confused at first as started off with the baby size just to practice and ended up finishing that sock ( with kids measurements) that fit my foot (size 41) hehehe. Also for the same sock had to tighten up my stitching as it was becoming a “Big Foot” sock. Mikey, I don’t have any line on my instep. I mean I have been crocheting in circle without slip stitching and it turned out fine 🤠. Anyway this is to really express my gratitude to you Mikey for being such a great tutor, so natural and clear, just feel like a few friends sitting around crocheting away! Much love
I really like this pattern so far. I like how the toe is shaped. Many toe-up patterns have a round/pointy toe. This is much more like real feet. I tore it out a dozen times trying to get the stitch count right after the first rnd. Very hard to see those stitches. Also, I've been going a little crazy trying to figure out why my seam is crooked, when Mikey's is so straight. Took me a while to figure out the intructions for the length of the foot, where it's working in rounds should specify to sl st into first crochet of previous rnd, sc in same stitch. This is what creates the straight seam. My first sock will have a crooked seam that straightens out about 3 inches into the foot. The second one will be straight from the beginning.
Sounds like you are on a hell of a stitching journey here. Socks takes practice to make. Not the easiest thing. The seamline has to be tight I learned. If you are too loose, it's a problem. I am sure you will accomplish your goals. You seemed determined.
Hi Mike I'm looking for the written pattern that you have in your video...I really appreciate this from you, making socks for my 30 year old grandson who needs these for his outside work in the wintertime...
Forget it Mikey I just found it. Can't wait to get started. Thank you for your video, we once met in Ottawa last year, my daughter was with me at the time we met, she passed away Sept 6, 2018...this will help keep me busy because my grief is very hard to go through...
I've knit dozens of pairs of socks, but arthritis in my hands makes it very hard to manage the needles now. I have put off trying to crochet socks, though enjoy crocheting everything else (easier on the hands). But I tried this tutorial and pattern, and even though my gauge checked out correct before I started, the sock came out huge. Even counting gauge in the finished sock, the count appeared correct, but I wound up with a sock for a one-footed Sasquatch. LOL Maybe I'll see if I can manage my old circular knitting needles again. My kids want socks for Xmas.
Do you count the slip stitch ? I am having trouble understanding how to count. Could someone post a diagram of how to count from the fist stitch to the slip stitch ?
Unless the pattern specifically says so, the slip stitch and chains are never counted. In this pattern, the slip stitch and chains are NOT counted as a stitch. The first stitch that’s counted in a round is, the sc that you put into the same stitch as your join. I use a stitch marker for the first stitch and last stitch in each round and just move them up as I go.
Fantastic tutorial! It's a goal of mine this year, to crochet a pair of socks. I wonder if instead of slip stitch to join, can I work in a spiral? May be us a different stitch marker (the safety pin clip ones) for that stitch. Do you think it would effect the desired result? I will try this pattern and the Bernat Basic sock pattern. So excited! Thank you Mikey! Fun color choices by the way, just enough color for fun with visible content.
Ladies' Sizes then Mens, sorry if you're a lady sasquatch, you'll have to go with a men's size. xD I know this video is 2 years old. Thank you for making these videos, they're super helpful for people no matter when they become a hooker! :D
Hey Mikey, im looking forward to making this for Christmas, first time making socks! My teenage son wears size 15 shoes., How do i tweek the pattern? Thank you, love your work my friend!
I really don't know this answer. Unfortunately, I never went to fashion school to understand body anatomy to change stuff like this. There may be some patterns on Ravelry but I don't know what needs to be changed to accomodate different thicknesses of ankles and length. I'm sorry.
I love this tutorial. You explain things so well. Would the size 11 and a half work for my husband who wears a size 12 shoe? Or would I need to adapt the socks a little?
I keep when i first start i get 13 sts and not 12 will someone please tell me what im doing wrong ive had to undo my yarn like 6 times now and i really dont want to give up on this patternt but im getting frustrated
Hello, I have been doing this pattern for the past few hours and I keep getting 19 stitches instead of 18 on the first count. I have no idea what I am doing wrong and I am following every direction you give. I have tried to do the pattern a few different ways and it still isnt turning out, do you know what I could possibly be doing wrong?
Love the pattern. Just one question could you do the instep in a round without slip stitching at the end of each row, like some of the hats etc. Thanks again really enjoy your tutorials
I have knitted socks with Paton Kroy and love the yarn. it washes, dries and wears well. The problem I have is I can't get any of the patterns from Yarnspirations to download. Can you help? I'm dying to crochet a pair.
I know this is an older video but does anyone have the written pattern please? It no longer found on the site. At least I get a 404 error when I click the link. Thank you
Annoyingly enough, this pattern is done ribbing down, but it is all I could find: www.yarnspirations.com/on/demandware.static/-/Sites-master-catalog-spinrite/default/dw830ce4b7/PDF/PAC0828-004506M.pdf
For the end of the toe portion in the men's size: why do you say that there should be 52 stitches when the pattern says 60 stitches? Is there an error somewhere, or am I missing something?
I have the same question only for ladies size 7/8; pattern says should be 58 sc at end of rnd 5, but video says 52. Does anyone know which is correct? This is my first attempt at socks. Already frogged about 4 times but don't want to give up. Thanks!
Cairstiona Wilson I’m glad you brought this up. I too am at 52 when the pattern says 60 for the men’s size. I hope it’s a typo. Maybe the next part will make sense (I see 58 stitches for the heel opening on the pattern).
@@ezears I am making this socks now and also got confused by same reason. When I follow the pattern, I feel pattern was correct and the number in video was error, but when I follow the number in pattern my socks became way too big. How about everyone who have the same confusion?? Hope someone can help me out :D Thank you!
When you're counting the first 12 and then 16 stitches at the beginning do you also count the sl st? I keep ending up with 13 (sl st included). Thank you.
I'd like to know if you could do the other sock pattern from Yarnspirations ? It started with the ribbing and somehow I'm missing it on the ribbing and how it joins for the rounds? My apologies for this question not related to this particular sock pattern. Please help?
Hey Mikey! Love this video! When doing the half double crochet after the front post double crochet, are you going into the bridge of the half double crochet below it? (like in the previous row?
When you are doing the instep, do you just keep going around each time or do you come to the end of the row and do a slip stitch then start the next row? (Very beginning sock crocheter). Thank you for your video, I may just try this. Have been wanting to make socks and mittens for years. Basically I'm at a ripple afghan stage!
Hi there. The instep seam veers off to the side instead of being straight. Could you tell me what I did wrong? Can I just work in a continuous round instead of having to slip stitch at the end of each row?
I'm having a little trouble. I'm doing a ladies 5/6 and no matter how many times I frog and start over. I keep coming up with 19 after the first round. I thought maybe one of them was a "fake" stitch so did a slip stitch to the next one. after round 7 my project was decidedly lopslided. I just can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Is it at all possible the written pattern could be off on the count at the beginning?
I have deformed feet both sides. I've knitted a pair a long time ago but I barely remember that. My feet wouldn't knot what to do with socks or shoes that fit right. Both feet are pretty much the se shape. I am a women's size 7.5, with a higher instep, Maryjanes cut in To the top of foot. My width is an H or quad F. Plus I have a big lump on the bottom of each foot from big bone spurs. I am pretty much allergic to all synthetics. Thought o would try so comings of wool, cotton maybe sink since all are natural. Right now it's hard to find 100 cotton sock that fit, stay up but don't cut into my fluidy ankles.
I’m having a problem, let me start by saying I haven’t even started a pair of socks yet. I’m trying to get the right gauge. I made a gusher swatch with a D hook and it came out as 3 inches. Then I made one with an E hook- still 3 inches. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong or if I need to go up another hook. But I really want to make socks - help?
Are the written instructions different to the video ? I know there are size differences but for the heel on the written there are some steps you have to repeat? But does not say so in the video...

great tutorial! thank you!
thank you. I needed to see the instructions I am reading...
Thanks for the video!

I'm sorry.
Mikey, do you continue the BLO on all SC throughout the pattern? 🧶💗
hey micky van you do a video of the lacy Chevron
nice SOCs thanks!
He doesnt count the slip stitch. He says that the next round of stitches
Great tutorial!
When you are doing the growth sections. Do you slip stitch, chain 1, and sc in same spot as slip stitch every round?
Yes. I finally figures this out.
Excellent
I know this is an older video but does anyone have the written pattern please? It no longer found on the site. At least I get a 404 error when I click the link. Thank you
Annoyingly enough, this pattern is done ribbing down, but it is all I could find: www.yarnspirations.com/on/demandware.static/-/Sites-master-catalog-spinrite/default/dw830ce4b7/PDF/PAC0828-004506M.pdf
Kerry Fritz thank you. That’s the only one I found too. I guess they no longer have it. Thank you for replying.
hy I love you tutorials do you make gloves summer gloves
this was so helpful! thanks :) by the way if the socks dont fit can you enlarge them in warm water maybe? any idea?
For the end of the toe portion in the men's size: why do you say that there should be 52 stitches when the pattern says 60 stitches? Is there an error somewhere, or am I missing something?
I have the same question only for ladies size 7/8; pattern says should be 58 sc at end of rnd 5, but video says 52. Does anyone know which is correct? This is my first attempt at socks. Already frogged about 4 times but don't want to give up. Thanks!
Have you guys figured it out? 'Cause I made 48 stitches (just like the video says) while the pattern says 54... And it better not be in vain. :D
@@momamochi2343 Mikey is making the toddler size.
When you're counting the first 12 and then 16 stitches at the beginning do you also count the sl st? I keep ending up with 13 (sl st included). Thank you.
Same thing for me... I'm starting over and over again and don't get it
No you don't count the slip stitch :)
Can you keep going on the ankle to cuff section to make knee socks?
Crochet Jones - I think thats absolutely not allowed 🤣
I'd like to know if you could do the other sock pattern from Yarnspirations ? It started with the ribbing and somehow I'm missing it on the ribbing and how it joins for the rounds?
My apologies for this question not related to this particular sock pattern. Please help?
Can you use 4 ply yarn instead of sock yarn to make these? Just use a smaller hook with it?
Please do a tutorial for the top down pattern as well!
muy bonito me idiotice con el vídeo felicidades
Is there any way to adjust to get rid of the wrinkle of extra fabric on the top of foot where it turns to ankle?
Hey Mikey! Love this video!
When doing the half double crochet after the front post double crochet, are you going into the bridge of the half double crochet below it? (like in the previous row?
thank you thank you!!!
What is the ribbing pattern called so I can look up a more detailed tutorial?
When you are doing the instep, do you just keep going around each time or do you come to the end of the row and do a slip stitch then start the next row? (Very beginning sock crocheter). Thank you for your video, I may just try this. Have been wanting to make socks and mittens for years. Basically I'm at a ripple afghan stage!
How do you handle the sizing of the sock if you wear a size 11 shoe and have an ankle circumference of 12". Thank you.
Hi there. The instep seam veers off to the side instead of being straight. Could you tell me what I did wrong? Can I just work in a continuous round instead of having to slip stitch at the end of each row?
What size foot would the "mens sizes" sock fit? I don't want to go through the whole pattern to find out they're too small. Thanks!
do you have a pattern not using a size, like tube socks? Kids feet grow like weeds! (and I might mess up)
I'm having a little trouble.
Are you crocheting in a circular motion instead of zigzagging, because I wasn't. Oops.
Melissa M I think that is exact what I was doing, thanks!
So why are there not multiple sizes for the men's? thanks
Im doing this socks right now, but my cuff is loose when wearing, is there a way to make it tight? Thank u for yr video
Reduce your hook down to be smaller.
@@TheCrochetCrowd ohh ok, thank u
Started this sock yesterday and I’m lost at the heel
Can you crochet socks with thrums, in one of your tutorials?
trying to read the pattern gave me a headache 😂 will try to follow along from the vid
Vanessa Desgagné that's why I'm here!
HI there, can you please give me details on how to get this sock pattern please, many thanks Barry
Do I have to leave those two stitches when I start the instep?
Are the written instructions different to the video ? I know there are size differences but for the heel on the written there are some steps you have to repeat? But does not say so in the video...
