That black oring on the spool pin is actually part of the Silent Tune system Shimano uses, it is not used as a sealing gasket, it is there to hinder the spool pin from hitting something when spinning, and thus, make the reel more silent.
When fishing the saltwater the curado mgl does not like it the trax is still smooth as butter after 100 trips Curado was rough after 5. Got one for sale $100 bucks
Was a fan of Lews but been struggling with parts and servicing. Decided to make the change to Shimano. Was looking at both of these reels for my first buy. I service my reels often so saltwater advantage the tranx gives doesn’t matter to much to me. My question is which one cast further and better with 1/16 to 1/8 lures.
The first Tranx I had started acting up 3 trips in without ever getting dunked, ended up getting a different Tranx and that one has been solid ever since. So I would say the first Tranx I had was a lemon. Ruben services all our reels. I would say the Curado MGL casts a little further.
If you look up spool bearing pin removers there are plenty of helpful tools to get that bearing pin out on those reels. A lot easier than I expected! saves a lot of time instead of sending it to shimano 👌🏻
My first Tranx had problems with the anti reverse bearing after the first few trips. I returned it and my 2nd Tranx has been working well. Ruben's MGL has been solid and he has more time on the water with his MGL than I do with the Tranx.
@surferdude7679 you're welcome! I hope it works out for you! And just to clarify, the Tranx, was never dunked in the water, just regular fishing conditions. The reels were opened up, oiled, and greased when we got them and as needed. The 1st Tranx had to be a lemon imo.
Casting a free line live shrimp??? Or a mudminnow ??? Slow retrieving??? After first trip, take it apart, see what you find. That’s what connivence you, your money was spent wisely.
We took them out for a spin and so far so good, no water between the spool and in the pinion gear pike the Chronarch 50e and Curado 200e7. We mainly throw soft plastics but might use them for a little live bait.
We're gonna try and put these reels to the test this fall. So stay tuned for some wade fishing videos. Thanks for watching!

Just put my Tranx 151hg to work past couple days, and I'm impressed. Out casts my Mgl's and Dcs.
Glad to hear you are liking the Tranx!

Deciding between these two. Thanks for video. Whats your thoughts 5 months later on them?
After a 3 trips I had problems with my Tranx 150, I exchanged it for a new one and that one has been flawless so far.

How's the MGL holding up? Any problems with saltwater seeping in? Just picked one up and trying to decide if i should just trade up to a tranx.

@MattsSaltwaterFishing That's great to know. I think ill stick with the mgl then. Thanks, brother.

We hope so! The old Curado and Chronarch were great reels but time has caught up with them.
