This serial featured a multitude of outstanding character actors--Sylvia Field, Doris Packer, Mary Wickes, and of course, Richard Deacon. May they all rest in peace.
I believe this was a Disney Mickey Mouse Club summer production (now that school was out). A western summer camp, one for girls and one for guys and WE all would have "killed" to live in such a world in those days.
Never saw a steak served at a teen-anger party and I’m a few years too young for this time period but still... at best it would have been barbecued chicken.
Annette Funicello herself was surprised to star in her own serial, although she shouldn't have been. She was getting more fan mail than the rest of the Mouseketeers combined.
The reputation of being the only Mouseketeer being hand picked by Walt Disney himself, and not even at an audition, was certainly a help. Some people just wanted to know what he saw in her.
Kid peer "accessibleness". She didn't seem to possess any ulterior motives. One could imagine her as your friend. Kind and non-judgmental. And it was true....very relatable.
I love how the parents or adults would probably be in their late 30's, early 40's but are portrayed as if they are much older almost ready for retirement.
Thanks for posting these shows. I never knew Annette had her own show. But I sure remember MM Club, my sister who's older let me have her mouse ears. The good old days. Hope you post the rest of the episodes soon, I'm hooked.
Disney produced many mini-features that would air in the summer (no school, need those kids watching) and also during the rest of the year. I did attend several summer 10 day sessions at a nearby Wisconsin YMCA camp located on a good sized lake with canoes, swimming, horseback riding, 22 cal. rifles, archery, 4 square, tether-ball, wall tents, campfires, trails, eating hall and a modest snack hut for candy, lanyards and crafts. All boys or girls only sessions. It was actually pretty "cool".
Annette being raised by Disney gave her all that class one very classy lady and to suffer the way she did really killed me i was one of the letter writing fans.to honor walt on her last picture not to wear a bikini and wear the 1 piece all that class!!! Rest Annette thank you for the years
@@chrisk8187 - ISome of the dirtiest jokes I ever heard were from people of this time. It may have been a different time but there are still some mischievous minds. I am pretty sure ole' Walt told a few dirty jokes in his day.
Geez, Laura takes the green-eyed monster of jealousy to a whole new level. Although, in a way I'd be a little jealous too if my boyfriend was dancing with another girl. Just not to her extent.
I don't think anyone was officially dating anyone. They're all just sort of a "gang". Steve even says nobody brought anybody to the barbecue, so he was free to dance with any of the girls. I'm sure Laura would have liked to be an item with him, but since she was visiting from out of town that wouldn't have been very practical.
Look at the home scene: No phone surgically connected to her ear, no texting, no mania to be "connected" 24/7 but actually sitting quietly in a room READING.. I bet that doesn't happen too much these days.
The parents, aunt and uncle (Doris Packer, Richard Deacon, etc.) seem miscast, appearing old enough to be grandparents. Also compare Doris Packer's role as Chatsworth Osborne Jr.'s mother in the Dobie Gillis series.

I always had a good time reading the accomplishments of this group of talented individuals.
Man what a spread! Steaks for teenagers! Plus Yummy cake and ice cream! What cool cats those old folks were!

I'm usually like, "Ooooooh!!" right when Laura, Jet, and Steady fall into the pool.
All of my friends and I (born in 1950) looked forward to the Mickey Mouse Club and, sigh, Annette!
You're older than I am---LOLOLOLOLOLOL.

@@chrisk8187 Jet Maypen as played by Judy Nugent was hotter than Annette and super nice too.
I love how the parents or adults would probably be in their late 30's, early 40's but are portrayed as if they are much older almost ready for retirement.
Noticed the same, see comment above.
RIP Annette Funicello.
Geez, all the drama in these episodes. 😉 I'm hooked.
I always wanted to go to the Spin and Marty ranch..

Be strong Annette 😢
Did you notice that the older lady is the teacher and principal, Mrs. Rayburn from "Leave it to Beaver"?
Doris Packer, a remarkable character actress; she was also in 'Dobie Gillis' as the mother of Chatsworth Osborne.
Yes we did
Laura totally went too far by this time, and I'm thankful for Jet standing up for Annette.
Annette being raised by Disney gave her all that class one very classy lady and to suffer the way she did really killed me i was one of the letter writing fans.to honor walt on her last picture not to wear a bikini and wear the 1 piece all that class!!! Rest Annette thank you for the years
How rude is the Aunt and Laura? Why are they accusing Annette and no one else? And Annette should thank Jet for sticking up for her. No one else is.
Aunt Lila didn’t accuse Annette
4:33 The original Krystal VS. Alexis...LOL
I remember watching this on WNEW back in the 70s...I remember thinking Jet only did what I believe everyone wanted to do...Laura deserved it!
Tim Considine & Cheryl Holdridge were always my favorites.
The wonderful Doris Packer, who also played Mrs. Osborne on Dobie Gillis.
MEROW! CATFIGHT!
"Let's take her in the house. Give me a hand Steve." I guess Dad is a dirty old man. Jet and Steady were left in the pool.
I thought the same thing, everyone just left no one waited to see if they were ok.
These were different times. The thought never crossed anyone's mind.
AND remember, Walt would never have ever permitted
such implications.

Lol jet tell Laura "say it!" then she says "take it back!"
LOL right?
You nailed that one.
Geez, Laura takes the green-eyed monster of jealousy to a whole new level. Although, in a way I'd be a little jealous too if my boyfriend was dancing with another girl. Just not to her extent.
4:37 -- and everywhere, the world applauded.
Boy, at approximately 1:04, we see a jealous Laura Logan watching Annette and Steve dance.

I was almost 11. At the time this seemed more real than my actual life.
The awaking of social "reality".
PS. I'm 73 now.
Some parts are even older.....
And there's Lumpy's dad, Mr. Rutherford from Leave it to Beaver.
4:37-There goes Laura! 😆
Laura deserves that fight from Jett because Laura is the rudest person that there is and both Annette and Jett are saints compared to her.
If you like my comment, then can you please be so humble as to give to me thumbs up? ©®
I would highly appreciate it very much.

The film crew probably descended on those steaks the moment the director shouted, "Cut!" And, what cuts they were.
Annette looks like 12 when she's with that "My fare lady" outfit, but when she's dressed like the rest of the teens, she is on her age, 14/15
I was having my 3rd birthday when this episode aired.
Me too!!
Doris Packer was great on The George Burns and Gracie Allen Television Shows also😊.
You could tell that Roberta Shore's character would be disruptive and violent. Note how close together her eyes are.
At 2:57 Steve tells Laura: "Nobody brought anybody" then she opens her big, fat, ugly mouth and says: "Steve, I've had just about enough of this."
Please don't judge a book by its covers like Laura. ©®

At approximately 3:10 Steve confronts Laura and tells her: "Well now look Laura this is no place for an argument now. If you'll excuse me." (Then he continues to dance with Annette).
Please be kind to others. ©®

Appearently at approximately 4:22 Laura tells Jett Maypen: "I'll say it she took my necklace." Then Jett says: "She what?" "Take that back. You better take that back."
Please keep inside during this quarentine as much as possible. ©®

At approximately 4:34 Jett defends Annette against Laura and Laura, Jett and Steady enter the pool all soaking wet because Laura isn't a polite person from the very beginning.
Please behave yourself when going out on an outing. ©®

@cliff stumpff : Yes, both were played by Sylvia Field
OMG that's mrs. wilson from dennis the menace
I thought she looked familiar.
did annette aunt played mrs wilson on denis the menice with jay north?
Yes she did
Jet and Laura are Disney's Krystle and Alexis
They should have sent Laura home. She started the flight.
wow, a whole year and 5 months before my dad was born
@Terri86 That's Miss Judy Nugent. She also appeared in the 1950 film 'Cheaper By The Dozen'---the REAL deal.
this was cutting edge back then--girls fighting on tv LOL
I Love a good CAT FIGHT.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love you jet
She keeps calling him "Stevie!"
Look at the home scene: No phone surgically connected to her ear, no texting, no mania to be "connected" 24/7 but actually sitting quietly in a room READING.. I bet that doesn't happen too much these days.
I like when Laura says "take your hand off, you country bumpkin!". Just imagine what she would have called Annette nowadays.
@ka8gov Yes, that was Sylvia Field Truex.
Most of the adults were so accommodating of the teens. And, no physical abuse or pedophilia.
God, these days Laura would have had Jet arrested and sued her for assault and battery.
I know that’s right jet she’s a real friend
Sounds like a brawl on Real Housewives!
To all you yunguns who wonder what the 50s were like. All of our hayrides use to end with wet t-shirt contests
😂🤣😂
😹😹😹😹😹😹
The rest of this cast where not mouseketers, where they already actors before, where did Disney get them??
The parents, aunt and uncle (Doris Packer, Richard Deacon, etc.) seem miscast, appearing old enough to be grandparents. Also compare Doris Packer's role as Chatsworth Osborne Jr.'s mother in the Dobie Gillis series.
Thanks, I didn't know that.
@Mocchaa That how inaccurate gossip can be. He wasn't reporting fact because he wasn't there; he's repeating what he thinks he heard.
JET FRIGGIN ROCKZ!!!
Jet was gangsta!!!
Mom Jeans!
@Terri86 hell yeah!!!
Jen don't play!!!
No matter what, *Jet had no business hitting Laura.*
AND PRETTY, TOO!!!!! XD
Steve is a noodle
