This IS a classic! I remember the trip to Disneyland part just like it was yesterday. Bravo to whoever posted this. I especially remember the too much food part because right around that time, my brother's friend Kenny threw up at the shopping center - and it reminded me of this song.
Mickey mouse club was a racist show. Why do you think they had a Mexican introducing Carribean music... they couldn't bear to have a black person on the show!
The entire point of the MMC for Walt Disney was to promote his new theme Park, as in the first of its kind. Here is a skit that explicitly promoted the new theme park. In retrospect, it comes off kind of lame.
Rock-and-Roll was the craze now. Blacks like Fats Domino and Chuck Berry gained prominence as rockers. Later Disney films like October Sky and Game Plan caved into recognizing Elvis' prominence at the time. White recognition of black music was now in the form of places like Beale Street, Memphis. This was also a sign that rock-and-roll was a huge reason why the show was about to end. Most Trinidadians are also not Hispanic, and are mainly Black and India-style Indian. Still, discrimination against Hispanics was high at that point as well. Ricky Ricardo didn't manage to get discriminatory immigration quotas repealed. But making a Latino a representation of Trinidad was a big lie.
@@gladyshernandez2389 Very easy question to answer. The segment is about Afro Caribbean music but having a black person on the show was forbidden by Disney. Whereas having a Mexican or Latino was acceptable as their skin colour was closer to a white person.
@@MGR1900 Do your own research on the net. There is loads of references to Walt's racism. I'm not going to do it for you. Why do you think there were no black mouseketeers? Why do you think they got a Mexican to introduce Calypso... Afro Caribbean music?
@@PreservationEnthusiast No. I’m not doing my own research because I’m not making that claim. You did. You just made a very powerful statement and I hardly doubt you knew Disney personally and as a first source. So now, state your source.

As an Italian, Annette sounds incredible with the calypso!.....
Pedro got totally scammed. He wanted to go to Disneyland, and they just took him to a large room with a few wooden boards
From what I can tell being a guest on MMC was a big deal back in those days.
@Shane Allan Howard This is the first I've heard of it.
Calypso grooves Cubbys hot bongo playing
I remember seeing every single episode of The Mickey Mouse Club very much when I was much younger and boy did I enjoy watching it very much while I was much younger.

movie from Disney corky and white shadow
Disney would not have black people on the show so they had to use a Mexican instead to introduce the music.
Why is the Trinidadian kid a Mexican?
Danny Friar Big faux pas..........Pedro is Mexican and not Trinidadian..........

Marvel studios calypso
Caribbean music is not Mexican.🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪
Yes, but they would never have a black person on the show so they had to use another way to introduce the music.
There are Hispanic carribeans tho. The islands are quite diverse.
