Thank you for taking the time to upload memories of a simple time in my life. I loved to come home from school and watch them even though they were in re runs. I hated growing up and not watching them but you have brought back the good old days! Thanks for sharing!

Besides being very entertaining, this serial was a morality play. TV for kids was like that in those days. There were lots of positive role models, and examples of what you could become if you stuck with it, stayed in school, and developed your talents. Here, even the mean girl comes around. We were all very young, and we aspired to be the big kids, high schoolers, living in a prosperous town much like Ashford.
We who grew up in the America 1950s and 60s were well loved by our parents, families, and teachers. We anticipated every day. The future was a very bright place, full of promise and limitless opportunity, not like now at all. Kids today don't have nearly as much to look forward to, just poor schools, meager paychecks, and endless competition for largely dead-end jobs.

Poor Spin and Marty. They looked so uncomfortable dancing and singing.
Aunt Lila's house has a library, but no living room!
This is like a time capsule to a simpler, sweeter time. Thanks for posting it.

Shelley Fabares started playing Mary on the Donna Reed show in the fall of 1958-only six months or so after this serial. Her younger brother in the Donna Reed show was played by Paul Petersen, who had briefly been in the Mickey Mouse Club in 1955(although he was fired from the Mouseketeers for disorderly conduct after six months).

mscentrum04 I still know all the words to this-four decades later!Charming, she was always. We all wanted to be Annette. This series was much loved at the time, and of course, now.Annette always said she only had a "3 note range", singing---but her charm, grace, and sweetness took her right to Heaven.I still can recall these simple stories, and the sweetness of it all. God Bless our "Dearly Beloved."

From approximately 0:44 until approximately 7:06 Annette recalls, in the letter to her Uncle Archie and Aunt Lila, how she felt to be wanted and as soon as Laura Logan noticed that her necklace was missing she automatically put the blame on Annette WITHOUT HAVING PHYSICAL PROOF to label her as a thief from the party until the barbecue.
I just hope that her friend, Mike, can find her as quick as a rocket because they will not sleep well knowing that Annette is some where in hopes of returning back to Beaver Junction, Nebraska.

Please keep rude remarks outside. I don't need to have ill mannered people, like Laura, removing my nice comments over here. ©®

@@SOCORROSILVA-in7px It's Laura Rogan (not Logan). Yes Annette stole the necklace but so much heat came on her, she put it back but dropped it inside the piano to make it look like it got lost there.
The ploy worked and Laura believed it, and later apologised to Anette who got away with it.

It's done on a low budget. The "school" entrance in the opening scenes is actually the back of the Disney studio. They probably just lifted a few graphic artists from the studios to play the minor parts... whoever was available for a couple of hours.

@vortexnyc You're right -- as a whole those times had their problems -- just as the world does today; the racial prejudice, gay bashings, bombings, etc, still occur. In Disney's defense, his show was made for children. Back then it was acceptable for a child to be a child and not have to shoulder the burdens of the world.. a little escapism does a body and mind good.

Annette did steal the necklace. That's why she felt so guilty. She only dumped it in the piano when the heat came on her later.
Annette was a thief and a charlatan. Jet Maypen was the real hero.

I would like to make a correction from my previous message.I said that Paul Petersen had been fired from the Mickey Mouse Club after six months, but it was more like six DAYS.I read a book by him about the Mickey Mouse Club and he talks about how he was the first to be fired-and then the Rooney boys.(Chuckle!)
Interesting in that in 1958,the year the Mickey Mouse club was cancelled,Petersen got the steady job on the Donna Reed show that he had the next eight years.
