    Thanks for sharing. Your info cleared up a lot of questions for me about what my bees are doing right now! Very helpful!

    It's hot here and the rain has finally settled down some. I use permythern also. Just a idea if you are working bees at night get you a red light bees won't fly to them.

      Which brand of spray do you use? I need to invest in something for ticks.

    Have seen more yellow jacket queens than I've ever seen in my life this year... Have killed dozens (butterfly nets are great) and there are still more flying checking out every crack and crevasse they can find. Does not bode well for the dearth coming our way... hope I can find the nests and deal with them but that will probably happen while mowing OUCH! Linden in full bloom here but its not showing up in the frames as I figure the bees are consuming what they bring in. Going to be a long, dry hot dearth. Going to pull what honey I can and hit Walmart for sugar to keep the hives maintained and hope we get rains to fatten up the goldenrod and asters in August if not late July since everything has bloomed 10 to 14 days early all season. Have already started my "compressions" based on the lack of honey within the hives. Real shame as the spring had looked so promising until the rains came at peak nectar bloom (tulip and locust). Did manage to get in a MAQS treatment before the heat descended upon us so got the mites knocked down and bees "clean". Did have one hive go queenless with the treatment but the 6 frames of beautiful capped queen cells (already in purple eye stage) will produce some really nice queens for sale or use within the apiary in short order so have those mating nucs set up and even used some nuc sized double screened boards and stacking them double to use fewer resources - not going for increase just wanting the queens mated for sale and self use.

      We hit our sumac/sourwood flow on June 12th. Have put on 20 lbs in last 7 days. Finally a positive trend.

    Those snakes are plentiful this year bc of the cicadas providing an abundant food source. Great video as always friend. The sumac produced just enough for us down in Giles to draw a little and pack some excess. I think the bees made up lost time with this rain we had all year. Im about to split my 150 down the middle. Ordered a ton more equipment from Skipper Lutrell. Going to just set a deep on a new bottom board. Leave the original deep on the mother. Then see where the queen ends up in a few days. Hope the end of season and dearth goes well man.

    Yep, Drawn comb is gold. I hope you have a solid plan on storing your comb to avoid wax moths. It looks like you are really focused in on your goals and getting there. Happy Father's Day. Your little girl took to that rock climbing.

    I have been following your journey since day one. Despite you living pretty much half a world away, I have really enjoyed following your journey! Your thoughts and goals are pretty similar to mine, being able to make a living out of working for my self on my own farm. Thank you!
    I was wondering if you would be able to elaborate on your plan to run mostly all mediums? Maybe discuss some pros and cons in a video now that you have also tried a few deeps?

    • @DuckRiverHoney
      @DuckRiverHoney  21 день тому +1

      Thanks! Very cool to connect with other beekeepers around the world. I need to do a full video on medium box management. It does have pros and cons. Overall I like it for my purposes.

    • @DuckRiverHoney
      @DuckRiverHoney  21 день тому +1

      I have fed them but don’t feed them regularly. If the bees are under stress it may be beneficial.

    Explain queen checking without going into the hive. What are you looking for?

    • @DuckRiverHoney
      @DuckRiverHoney  21 день тому +1

      Population. They’d been there long enough to start having bees hatch from the new queen. Also, bees just acting right. Laying workers or queenless are lazy and depressed.

      that means absolutely nothing. micro climates are real, and where I am even 10 15 miles away can be in a death and me in flows most the season. then elevation come into play greatly as well, a valley or a mtn top may have drastic differnce timings and veg. every area has its own flows, temps, humidity, dew points, air quality, water, rain, snow and even magnetic fields which bees work with.
