    One of mine: I traveld 300 km with a borrowed trailer to buy my first 20 hives and some equipment ,i had a borrowed net to cover the trailer, but as I neared my destination I realised I had nothing to tie down the net, un typically i prayed for help and as i rounded the bend there on the side of the road was a huge bundle of discarded hay bale twine ,perfect.

    Nathan I'm not sure if you go back and watch any of these but it's impressive seeing what you have done over the past 2.5 years. Hearing Bob Binnie talking about getting into Walmart and seeing your products now in Publix, you are definitely on the path to success. Thanks for sharing. I wish you continued success on your journey.

    These videos are honestly a huge wealth of information. Until I watched them, I didn’t realize Bob was such a successful businessman. I knew he has been a beekeeper for a long time and runs a business, but he also clearly has made smart business decisions over a long period of time. Thank you for taking us through your process and doing these videos with Bob!

    So at what point do you go from buckets to barrels? Did I miss it? I religiously follow you and am grateful for the help, Informtaion and guidance. You’re a great advocate for us smaller entities! Ty

    • @DuckRiverHoney
      @DuckRiverHoney  2 роки тому +2

      Thanks Ray! I tried to pin him down to a hive count several times, but he didn’t want to get cornered on that one. My opinion is that it’ll be different for different operations. If you’ve got a real honey house that is inspected, with a loading dock…drums will be a lot more efficient. If you’re doing a couple thousand pounds a year…buckets require a lot less infrastructure. In the end I guess it’s about intention. Plan to stay small, buckets. Plan to grow…gear up for drums.

      @@DuckRiverHoney I'm producing 10,000 to 12,000 lbs a year and using all buckets. More than that, for handling, the buckets contain only 50 lbs of honey each...that's a lot of buckets. I use small pallets that hold six buckets each so they can be handled without manual lifting, most of the time. I think this method will work well for me up to a good 20,000 lbs or so. Different operators have different needs and styles, we all have to find the methods that have the compromises that we can put up with.

    Take some business classes (or faithfully read some books) before borrowing money to start any business. God is awesome and will bless work. He will not indefinitely bail out poor business acumen. Pray for wisdom. Learn accepted basic business and accounting practices.

    • @DuckRiverHoney
      @DuckRiverHoney  2 роки тому

      Good advice Joe. I’ve got some business experience, but not the specific knowledge that Bob does. I’m wise enough to seek advice from folks that know more than me, and to really dwell on what they say.

      @@DuckRiverHoney I've watched your videos and you have a good, systematic way of both doing and teaching. I visited Mr. Binnie earlier in the year and he has a wealth of knowledge, particularly in beekeeping. I tried to keep our conversation to under 10 minutes out of respect for his time. Super glad you used your systematic skills on him.

    • @DuckRiverHoney

      Thanks Joe, I did put a lot of time into preparing. With this specialized topic you really need a base of knowledge just to be able to ask the right questions. As far as Bob goes, he’s exceedingly gracious. It didn’t hurt that he enjoys making videos 😉.
