The Peasants tells the story of Jagna, a young woman determined to forge her own path within the confines of a late 19th century Polish village - a hotbed of gossip and on-going feuds, held together, rich and poor, by pride in their land, adherence to colourful traditions and deep-rooted patriarchy. When Jagna finds herself caught between the conflicting desires of the village’s richest farmer, his eldest son, and other leading men of the community, her resistance puts her on a tragic collision course with the community around her.

As a filmmaker and a painter, I can imagine the long hours and dedication to make this movie🙌🏼👏🏻
isn't it an AI generated painting ? (after the real video shoot of course)
@@bluedragontoybash2463 no. it was hand-painted by over 100 painters and then CG animators blended between the paintings to make the animation smooth
source ? trust Sony Megacorporation bro.. 🙂@@disregardthat
@@bluedragontoybash2463 these filmmakers made Loving Vincent seven years ago, and in the behind-the-scenes material you can see the process of how it was made, back before generative AI was a thing. the same artists who worked on that are working on this. being sceptical of every damn thing isn't a flex, "doubt everything" is synonymous with "learn nothing."
As a painter you should know painting 40k drawing with oil for 5 years is pretty bullcrap
I feel bad for the artists. Imagine working on a movie for 5 years, rotoscope-painting every single frame and then just before you're done, some soulless tech companies who literally steal from artists publish a "tool" against these same artists and shit all over your hard work because the little Ai bros who haven't held a pencil in their lives now think that their 5 minute prompt-typing is in any way comparable to your work
Wow, thank you for that comment
Lmao cry more luddite. Should we ban computers as well, because poor mathematicians are losing jobs?
I’ve thought about it and I hope companies that use AI to create films like this have to disclose that information so that I spend my money elsewhere. I don’t want a perfect animated movie made by AI. Part of the magic of art is that human beings created things I never could. I admire the devotion.
@@rosieposie4372 I would love it if movies started adding a No-Ai logo at the beginning like the "approved by the comics code authority" seal at the beginning of the Spiderverse movies. If you made something with your hands and human brains, advertise your artistry. Or at least a line the end of the credits. "No artists were harmed for the making of this movie."
honestly what makes me sad is that after seeing this comment i can only watch the trailer with the idea that it’s AI. as IMPRESSIVE as this is, it’s not hitting as hard to me because i’ve seen things like this with AI on tiktok! so depressing, the artists are really incredible
Taking Every Frame a Painting very literally. Putting this on my watch list.
You mean by computer?
@@shitmandoodit says brought to life by 100 oil painter.
at the of the production they used A.I tools lol. rip artists
Watch it please
I saw this movie last night and I'm blown away. This is incredible work. For one thing, the story is heart wrenching, and then there's the oil paintings. From the very second this film began I became emotional. The musical score paired with the animation is incomparably beautiful. I felt so fortunate to have been able to see this. Thousands and thousands of frames, each a unique piece of art, just flashing before your eyes. At some points I'd forget that I wasn't watching a live action film. Never experienced anything like this at the movies before! Probably never will again.
Thank you so much! :)
💯 Agree.
Finally got a chance to see this after months (and months) of scratching around for it.. 😑🙄😑😑🙄
It's.. ... Exquisite. 🎨🎨🎨
Makes (All) the animated spider man threads and silk dangling around look like sophmores..
While Definitely Absolutely perhaps nowhere Near on the same tier as this, if interested I'd also like to quickly mention Klaus, Nimona, Paprika, Anomalisa, and Renaissance (Christian Volckman) as (also) being several tiers above (most) other content. Animation, and Other.
Have seen this 6 times in cinema. An absolute marvel.
We REALLY need this to be the first polish release in 4k!!!! SONY make it happen!
Yes release it on 4K Blu-Ray
As Ukrainian, I absolutely love this movie, the style, the music, everything about it is absolutely beautiful. I'm so glad that Poland is producing something like that, I think we can all agree that today, more than ever we need movies portraying different Slavic and in general European cultures. I'm very happy that it has English subtitles. Thank you Poland for this masterpiece and for everything ❤
Ukraine is a co-producers, we had also many Ukraininan painters working in our studio in Poland :)

The West loves it when Slavs kill Slavs like what is happening now. When will the Ukrainians wake up and see they are being used? This situation is making life worse for all of us and it needs to stop now! You all don't seem to know that the U.S. has been running and using your country to steal its assets and launder money and make money off of a war with Russia using you all as proxies. Twently percent of Western surrogate babies are bourn by poor Ukrainian women. This is an industry run by Westerners. Ukrainians are reaping none of the benefits of billions of dollars being laundered in your country mostly by Americans. That is what is going on today and has been for the past 10 years at least. It is pathetic to see you all killing each other and yourselves in your own country! You all have been put up to this. There will never be peace in Europe until you all stop fighting each other for God's Sake!
My comment to you was deleted! We will call your country U. The U.S. is using U in a proxy war against R! U is blind to what is being done to them! The West is using and destroying U and the people in it! When will you all wake up and realize who the real evil ones are! You all are being used! Stop fighting each other! You are making things worse for all of the people in the whole world by your weak mindedness.
OMG this is probably one of the most unique foreign films i have seen a trailer for. Can't wait to see it!
this short trailer has more of a Witcher vibe than the entire Netflix series
Because americans know shit about slavic people
You can hear all the art teachers just playing this in their art class
It was ridiculous that Loving Vincent got zero Oscar nominations. Maybe the Academy will get it right this time.
It didn't....
"Loving Vincent" was nominated for one Oscar (in Best Animated Feature Film category).
I have literally fantasized about this technique for my entire life, and it is even more beautiful and impressive than I imagined. This is a must-see for me.
Did you ever see Loving Vincent (2017), about van Gogh? Every frame an oil painting.
it's by the same creators!@@arielstater7902
That is a true masterpiece! A movie that took so much effort and time, wonderful music and story 😊 Love it ❤
Just went to see this movie tonight and was blown away. The animation is gorgeous and really utilizing the medium for some truly stunning shots and emotional moments, the music was incredible and memorable and what a performance from the actors. It's the kind of movie that gets you heated when you watch it, full of melancholy and the infuriating nature of human beings and there were so many moments my sister and I were gripping our seats just captivated for what was happening on screen. Don't use this word lightly but honestly a masterpiece, I am so glad we went to see it and so glad Poland is producing this kind of movie.
I'm Polish & I think "The Peasants" is certainly one of the best Polish films in recent years, I loved it. 🤍❤💛💙 A wonderful masterpiece. Touching story. Beautiful animation (everything is hand-painted!) and beautiful music. Great atmosphere. I hope some foreign people will also learm about Polish culture from it as well. 🌾🇵🇱 🙌

Masterpiece. I love everything, music, inspiration by famous painters, the story behind it that really shows human condition. It is universal.❤
I only watched 21 seconds of this trailer and I already say that I don't need to see more. This is a film I want to be as blind as possible when I go to watch it! Looking forward to this one ❤
If this doesn't get an academy award then I don't know what will...
Disney. Disney always gets it because the Academy never watches animated films anyway
Gibli get Oscar this year's and this movie didn't have any nominations it's ridiculous 😢
40,000 masterful oil paintings. . . all to create something that most people will dismiss as AI.
I call bullshit that all these are real oil painting. I challenge you to paint with oil painting to realize the idea of 40k paintings is ridiculous
the computer or phone compresses the image, so you might question it, but you can really spot the difference in the cinema.
@@BreakThruFilms
The movie is no doubt gorgeous on the big screen. I'm not questioning it because I read a few articles, and know it took five years to create. They started on this thing long before AI video. Nevertheless, I fear many people are going to think they fed iPhone footage to Runway ML.
Actually movie was painted by over 100 painters whos in total used over 1350 liters of paint. All of it took 200k work hours .@@kos2919

This one ruled in Poland. It is considering as one of the best movies of all time, many people has been visiting cinema more than just one time, it's just a different level of art and creation 😮😊😅

You mean AI, right?
@@brutishfossil5022 No, human oil painters. They did the same thing for a film called, "Loving Vincent" which is mentioned in this trailer. Same directors and production studio.
@brutishfossil5022 You mean 100s of painters oil painting every frame to create this masterpiece? Yes.
😅 wow, that's crazy how many people seems to have already forget about human crafts and see everything as an AI outcome
@@brutishfossil5022 Can you stop being stupid?
This is beautiful, but it is not an animated film. It was filmed entirely with real actors. In post a group of artists painted over each scene for a separate creation. Took 5 years. THEN, some animators filled in the gaps. Looks like a long moving painting. As a photographer, distracting. But, to each their own. So, yeh, full credit.
Yeah, the moment it claimed to be animation and hand painted oil paintings, I saw a huge BS
That's exactly what it looked like. I don't think it adds anything and it may as well have been made traditionally if all the humans are going to move like a human would. I don't see exactly see why this art direction was chosen other than to be a gimmick. Does the oil painting medium help to tell this story? Doesn't look like it.
@@Ray03595 100% agree.
@@bumbumszakalaka Wouldn't have worked any other way? Yeh, nah. The 'normal way' is always first option. Here I'm thinking of 2014's "Mr Turner" - normal art direction about Great Britain's great exponent of light in art.
it's an animation technique called retroscope. IMO it wasn't necessary - the movie would be a masterpiece even without it but it gives something extra to the movie. It's interesting to find real paintings of Polish painters (such as Józef Chełmoński) in the movie, so it presents even more of Polish culture. Anyway you can see the movie without retroscopy in the official music video from the movie called 'Koniec Lata'
I was so mesmerized by the visuals I barely paid any attention to the story XD
I own Loving Vincent on Blu-ray. Honestly, I was so hoping that exceptional film would win the Academy Award. However, I'm glad to know that from around the world, many members of the Motion Picture Academy of Arts and Sciences nominated Loving Vincent for the category of Best Animated Film.
Now, once again, another astonishing, innovative, truly beautiful animated film has come from your studio's team of international artists. As of April 16, 2024, The Peasants has been officially released on Blu-ray and DVD for Region 1, which includes Canada, and the United States of America and it's overseas Territories. I will presume, The Peasants is also receiving international release on Blu-ray/DVD in Region 2, 2, 4, 5 and 6. I certainly hope so!
Thank you so very much, for showing us once again the special wonder and creative possibilities that artists can achieve in the realm of Cinema. The Peasants is Art and Film. I'm ready to experience the wonder of it all.

I came across this movie accidentally and thought it was AI which is why I didn't watch it but then i came to know it is made by artists so now I'm gonna watch it out of respect for them
Every frame is painted by a single artist with around a hundred having worked on the film. Every frame literally a painting. It's truly amazing.
Absolutely worth watching.
Looks incredible. Loving Vincent was a masterpiece, each frame. Cant wait to see this. Gorgeous. 👏👏👏
It is hard to fathom what you mean exactly.

That looks simply stuuning. Up for it!
i cant wait to see it
Fascinating stuff. Wow !
Just finished the movies on the cinema, it's perfect, from beginning to end.
I wish to see it when it arrives!!!! It looks so entertaining
I CAN'T WAIT!!
La misma técnica de Cartas a Teo. Cuántas horas para producir dicha película, la buscaré con Paciencia. Gracias por compartir!
Unlike Loving Vincent, this feels like rotoscopy. Nevertheless, equally excited to see it
That's so true. In Loving Vincent it was part of the story, was inherent of the film and used with naturality. Here it seems to be just a gimmick. With all due respect, seems just to show off.
It's exactly the same as in Spiderman into the Spiderverse and then Spiderverse Across the Spiderverse.
@rafaelc.c. I have to disagree. I watched the movie and the paintings are definitely based on Chełmoński's works. Considering that he created those at the same time when the book was written I believe it suits general idea of „Chłopomania„. Which was, very popular at the time, facination with peasantry
@@kaczuszkapaczuszka7979 I understand. Sorry, I wasn't aware of that.
However, I still think there's some degree of trying to replicate the success of the first film when perhaps it's not the most suited approach. But I respect it.

What's the name of the song used in this trailer called?
The full soundtrack should be available on UA-cam/spotify. One of the songs used in this trailer is Jesień - Tańcuj
Trust me, love comes and goes, but land stays. Choose land.
You sound like Scarlett O’Hara’s father. 😆
I've never been a big fan of this technique. It just doesn't separate the over painting enough from the original photography. If they had taken more artistic license and added in attractions, it could have been more interesting. Still some great artistry.
This movie wanted to recreate Young Poland style and "Chłopomania" which was very popular back then (it was fascination with peasantry) from Polish history. One of the most important Young Poland artist was Józef Chełmoński (he was one of the biggest inspirations for the movie).

This looks INCREDIBLE! I thought they were speaking Russian, but maybe they're Polish peasants? Regardless, I'm getting Dostoyevsky and Tolstoy vibes form this. It's a must see for me.
They are speaking Polish. The story is based on the book of the same title by Polish writer, Władysław Reymont, who got a Nobel Prize for this novel in 1924.
Polish, but some of the costumes are more what people associate with period Russian dramas.
już ty dobrze wiesz ....
Finally the Witcher peasants get their own show.
This makes my eyes hurt 🙁
I wanna love this. I’m sure actual painters took part in this, but their work gets drowned out by the filters which become obvious when the camera starts to move. What would’ve really helped would be a more Wes Anderson approach to the framing like at 1:15 throughout the movie. The shaky cam fight scenes are shot as if this was any other movie which ruins the effect imo. They needed a more intentional DP imo.
hin impact
So they filmed real scenes and then animated the footage. Not really seeing the big deal. As cool as it might look is the story any good? The characters?
I saw it last year and I thought it was pretty good. Also felt pretty nicely short compared to an abomination like Napoleon.
Well yes, but every frame was hand painted by the real artists. Oil painters were painting key frames (with oil paints on canvas) and the team of digital artits were painting the frames in-between. There is 40 000 oil painted frames out of 79 000 frames in total. Over 200 artists worked together to make this film possible.
Style is based on Chełmoński's works. Which, like the novel itself, comes from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, from the period called Young Poland. Some scenes literally are recreations of Chełmoński's paintings.
Period of Young Poland was defined by decadence, neo-romanticism, symbolism, impressionism and art nouveau, so just be ready for something akin to soap opera. As for the characters, I won't say much, I didn't see the movie, and I don't remember much about the book (The Peasants is one of mandatory reading in Polish schools).
Is the film hand painted or AI? Cause it would be a shame if it was AI
This is all hand painted
Manually painted

It has been hand painted after having been filmed with real actors
@@krzyztof85 Hmm OK, seems a painstaking & laborious way to do if they did, much easier to work out a post treatment using a computer generated system. Well I haven't read anything about it, so I can't argue about whether it is or it isn't.
