    Can I ask?
    I have a golden coin.
    I tried it the black stuff was there. Then I tried it on my quarter (20 European cents) and the black stuff also appears to be there. What does that mean?

      How about you get a glass of water then put the gold coin in there,if it floats its fake but if it sink its real

    I did that to my legit 18k gold ring and it doesn't have black on the white handkerchief but in a acid test in a black stone it indicates my gold is legit 18k gold

    • @JewelryIntel
      @JewelryIntel  11 місяців тому +3

      Yes, the acid test is a more reliable method for verifying gold authenticity. The toothpaste test is a simple home method, but it might not always provide accurate results as your experience suggests. Thanks for sharing your experience!

    gold also give black color when the gold is dirty

    • @JewelryIntel
      @JewelryIntel  11 місяців тому +5

      That's a valid point! Dirt and oils can sometimes cause gold to appear black or tarnished. It's always a good idea to clean your gold items before testing them.

    • @JewelryIntel
      @JewelryIntel  11 місяців тому

      Interesting observation! Fake gold can indeed react differently to various tests. The toothpaste test is not foolproof and might not work the same for every fake gold item. It's always better to have your items tested by a professional.

    Doest the toothpaste acid can damage the gold jewelry?

    • @JewelryIntel
      @JewelryIntel  11 місяців тому +4

      You bring up a great point! Some toothpastes can have abrasive ingredients that might potentially scratch or damage gold, especially gold-plated jewelry. It's always safer to have your gold items evaluated by a professional.

    all metals leaves black marks when you polish it

    • @JewelryIntel

      That's true! Many metals can leave black marks when polished. The toothpaste test is more of a fun DIY method rather than a definitive test for gold authenticity.

    • @JewelryIntel
      @JewelryIntel  9 місяців тому

      Hey @experto-expert, thanks for your comment!
      You bring up a good point. Dirt can affect the outcome, giving misleading results. It's a simple, home-based method, but it's not the most reliable.
      That's why it's good to combine this with other methods. Always good to have keen observers like you in the community! 👍✨
