VERY well put man. The phrasing is what makes a guitar player memorable. Plus you have to have the shade and the light ya know? It can't be all "weedly, weedly". If this solo was all fast runs, then that last part wouldn't stand out as it does. This is a great solo, bar none.

yes. and that's exactly why it's not that good. when i first heard this, the very first thing i've noticed is how flawless the other guy's soloing is then, when marty started playing, it's sloppy at times and even goes off-beat at times... but that's exactly why it's "better". it's just much much more soulful and it really sounds like a master on his own craft whereas the first one it really sounded like "a guitarist who memorised the solo"

@@Xx-Anwar-xXPaul Bostaph and Jon Dette replaced Lombardo pretty well, the difference is Bostaph is a "straight ahead" player and Lombardo is more "free willed/chaotic"... Dette being a cross of the two. And neither Dette nor Bostaph used triggers (which don't change how a drum is hit, more how it sounds). Oh and a drummer, you should know its spelt BASS.
At a guitar clinic in Australia, when asked about the Tornado of Souls solo, Marty said " I think people like it because its a long guitar solo". He's so humble, Theres lots of great guitar Solos out there, but nothing comes close to Tornado of Souls....

Marty's vibrato is like a signature. He plays relaxed, and feeling the music. He extend the notes and make a slightly vibrato at the end of the bends. I think he has one of the best vibratos ever.

Because of the "WTF?" part at the end, where Marty just goes crazy. I tried learning it by ear, and with tabs, and... yeah. Maybe it's the same for Jordan Ziff, the guitarist. The Tug is the Drug Fishing I remember buying their album in the 80’s and thinking oh my god wtf is this it’s incredible. Jason Becker’s solo album (11 blue Egyptians is my fave) and his dave lee Roth stuff was great.
The originator of the song will always sound better because of the heart and soul that goes into playing the song/solo. One of the best solos of all time. Melodic and fast. ❤

Marty was arguably one of the best eras of megadeth. Obviously I still love what dave has done separately but man, the marty era was literally untouchable.
Seen this lineup live in Houston my sophomore year of high school. Being 15 and standing 5 feet away from the former Megadeth guitarist is such an insane memory.
Marty's impromptu performance was very enjoyable. At the end of the video, I subconsciously listened blindly and found that Martin's tremolo was different, distinguishing two playing styles. Marty's guitar notes revealed the mysterious charm of the East.
He doesnt have that jazzy feel that Marty has. thats hesitant....yet sniper like phrasing , keeps you waiting a milisecond just enough for your heart to skip a beat in anticipation of the next note. A true guitar genius.
When I went to Japan, Marty was on late night TV. It was surreal. He’s made quite a name for himself over there. He had is own TV show for a while, or maybe it’s still going.
