19:53 - If you're wondering why Robotnik saves Sonic from falling into the lava pit before the first boss fight, it's because Robotnik is after the Chaos Emeralds, and by this point in the game, Sonic is supposed to have the first one (the blue one on the ledge above the goal sign in Under Ground Zone Act 2). Robotnik did not want to risk having the emerald sink into the lava.

Or the other headcanon could be that Eggman wants to be the one who defeats Sonic. But headcanons are headcanons...

I love the early 8 bit Sonic games and it's great to see someone talking about them in more depth than "it's worse then the Mega Drive versions". I honestly believe they are hidden gems. Kinda sad that most people's view on them get ruined because only Game Gear versions are re-released. Anyways great video, can't wait to see the next one!

Glad you enjoyed the video! I think the 8bit games deserve way more than being labelled as inferior versions, honestly excited to talk about Triple Trouble at some point!

I grew up with Sonic and Sonic 2 on the Master System, and oddly enough i do prefer the MS version of Sonic, it's the one i played and enjoyed the most.
    Nice video, well made too.

I first played Sonic on a friend’s Mega Drive but I first owned the Master System. At the time it was inferior but it’s different and looked great for 8 bit.

If you're confused on why the 8-bit versions are diffrent from the Genesis ones is because the Master System versions are prequels to their Genesis versions .
    So the timeline of the story is basically this : 8-bit Sonic 1 , Tails Adventure , Sega Sonic bros. , 16-bit Sonic 1 , 8-bit Sonic 2 , Sonic Chaos , Sonic CD , 16-bit Sonic 2 , Sonic 3 & Knuckles , Knuckles Chaotix , Sonic Triple Trouble , Sonic 3D Blast , Sonic Mania , Sonic Pocket Adventure , Sonic Advance 1 , Sonic Adventure 1 , Sonic Advance 2 ...

It has been confirmed by Ian Flynn, that the 4 first games in the current official timeline are Sonic 1 (16b), Sonic CD, Sonic 2 (16b) and Sonic 3&K. I don't like that, but sadly it is what it is.

Also Sonic Pocket Adventure is not canon, as SEGA doesn't have rights for it.
Also no Sonic Blast or Spinball?

Also in the Japanese manual, Silver Sonic is actually Mecha Sonic

  • @spindash64
    @spindash64 Рік тому

Honestly? It’s not THAT confusing to me: having multiple versions of a game that are different enough to be ports in name only was pretty common practice up until the end of dedicated handheld consoles, and the Master system and game gear were JUST similar enough that it made sense to create a version for it as well, so that people who weren’t sure about buying the new Genesis could still get a taste of what Sonic can do
It’s also a bit funny to me that people swear by these versions: not because I don’t believe them, but because I DO believe them, and it echoes similar sentiments people have said about the GBA Sonic Advance Games, DS Sonic Rush “trilogy” if you count Colors DS, and even 3DS Generations: even when Sonic has had some rocky development issues in the mid 2000s, his handheld outings during this period were generally very successful at maintaining a consistent feel, arguably because they were forced to be more conservative with their approaches, and because DIMPS, being a separate team from Sonic Team, could avoid some of the “soul crushing” that Sonic Team seemed to go through during this period that led to the 2010s era.
To give some more context on what I mean, Generations for 3DS has the following advantages:
-Classic Sonic has physics much closer to S&K: not identical, but his overall movement and level design definitely feels more traditional.
-while less characters isn’t inherently better, the 3DS version is a bit better at showing interactions between Sonic and Tails, as well as between modern and Classic Sonic, which helps to make it feel slightly more like a connected story
-actual special stages, with a more polished version of the stages from Sonic Heroes.
-the Final Boss has actual attack patterns instead of just “homing shot” in a discount Doomsday Zone. Instead, Classic sonic needs to handle close in barrages of various lasers, grapples, and homing missiles before moving in for the kill, while Modern Sonic must charge thru a wide open 3D space to catch up to the Time Eater, while quickly aerial side steeping out of attacks and flying thru moving clock hands.
    As for Sonic Colors:
    - a Super Sonic Bonus Fight is added that doesn’t even exist in the “Ultimate” version, and it actually fits in perfectly
    - other characters appear in the amusement park. This contradicts what I said about Generations 3DS a bit, but here, it makes the park feel like it’s actually open to the public
-Final Color Blaster in the DS version is WAY cooler: instead of the Phase 2 Egg Nega Wisp theme starting up once you get it under half health, it only activates once Eggman charges his desperation attack to drag Sonic into a Black Hole, and the wisps give Sonic an obscenely powerful boost to escape its pull and land one final blow. It has to be seen to be truly understood

also 8 bit sonic for the master system was mainly south America tech toys the company that helped sale the master system for sega said most people who tested the megadrive/geneis said that they really didn't see the differences between 16 and 8 bit games and that it was kinda pointless to move to it that's why you see a port of street fighters 2 on the master system too
