Brett is great because he knows what we think. “ that’s not slow dude” Thanks man.
Haha! Got to slow them down!
No shit
One thing not mentioned but is so cool about Ford's playing is his use of dynamics. Outstanding
For sure!
@@BrettPapa those P90s really make those dynamics pop pop pop.
Couldn't help picking up my guitar after watching this. Can't tell u how much this has changed my playing. Thanks guys.
Sure thing Allan! Thanks for watching!
Only 19 minutes! I could have watched you both all day. There's nothing in the world like good friends!
Haha, thanks! More coming soon!
Bret seems absolutely mesmerized by this guys playing. I bet a lot of us are as well. He’s great! Thanks for treating us! ⚡️
Sure thing!
This guy! Bret is as mesmerized as I am. Glad this is on video so I can go back and steal it ALL!!! Thanks Ford Thurston and Papastache!!!
Sure thing! Glad you liked it!
Ford is an encyclopedia of refreshing sounding licks.
You haven’t seen anything yet haha! It’s none stop!
papastache102 there aren't enough videos of him on UA-cam. Every time he posts something on IG it's gold. Tell him to go back to doing more little lick videos I know several people that love it!
Besides the knowledge you give away happily your passion just shines through. Always want to pick up my guitar after watching.
Awesome! Thanks so much for watching!
Brett, the way you teach is awesome; we all know that. But the unexpected bonus is when you get these other great players in and impose your teaching style on them so that we can actually learn from what they're playing. This lesson was like magic. I wasn't expecting that today, thank you. And Ford of course, he's amazing. Dare I ask for more? It would be great if you could give us another lesson on how to use more of Ford's stuff woven into what you have already taught us, please.
Coming soon! My next trip to Nashville will be jam packed with AWESOME! Thanks for watching!
didn't think your lessons could get better . Boy was I wrong !!! Absolutely superb !!!
Glad you liked it. More like this coming soon!
Ford is the tastiest player. Guthrie Trap is so sick....but I could study Ford the rest of my days. Thx Papa
Im not a shredder so stuff like this is invaluable to me. Thanks
You are welcome! Thanks for watching!
the best journalist interview with their ears , the best guitar videos are hosted by good grooves
Epiphany: anyone having trouble with these licks, it helps to rip your jeans. Right knee for righties, left knee for lefties.
Thanks for inviting Ford - tasty player.
Haha!
Brett, fantastic Lesson. So much info.. Mind Blown.. Thurston is so tasteful.
Yes he is! More coming soon!
This guy Ford is pretty good. What a style, what a sound.
You haven't seen anything yet!
The best tips I have ever seen!!! Thanks a lot guys!!!
Thanks for watching! More coming soon!
Great change of pace. Used to watching you play alone, but two great players complimenting each other makes for some great music.
Glad you liked it. Thanks for watching!
I love you guys. How many affordable ideas you give to us. Devoted.
Thanks!
Hey Brett, getting a lot of mileage out of this vid. Really helping me think "outside the pentatonic box"
Love Ford's playing and yours too. Keep the great content coming.
Thanks so much! Glad you liked it!
I saw the hat on that dude and made a judgement that I wasn't gonna like the video. Boy was I wrong. Unreal stuff. Thanks to you both
Ford has a lot of tricks up those sleeves and under the hat too!
I don’t like myself for wearing it !! Ha! I’m going bald... it’s a prop :)🕺🕺😂
These two have way too much fun together.
Cause Ford is awesome!
I met Ford on his way to film this in Nashville. I work for SWA he was pre-boarding his flight with his amp in a wheelchair! So funny super personable. He stood and talk about this very lesson with me in the jetway. There went his pre board everybody got on before him. He stood and talked to me for so long. Classy lesson @brettpapa thank you Nashville loves you brother
He is awesome! Got lots planned with him. Thanks for checking out the videos! I Love Nashville too, Ill be there soon!
Sup brother 🙌🙌
Please more vids with this guy .
More coming soon!
papastache102 cool!
That was EXCELLENT, one of the best video's , Definitely opened some doors for exploration in all of us!!!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for checking it out!
Great player Ford Thurston, Love that goldtop!
You should see all the other guitars he has too! One of many epic guitars!
Awesome tone & playing! Best Les paul ever!
Agreed!
The 2 best thing about this video: (a) Ford's licks, and (b) Papa's reaction to those licks
Haha!
Damn, that's a tasty player. Thanks again for the lesson. Ya'll explained this really well. I watched it twice back to back. SUBSCRIBED!
Thanks Arlo! Yeah Ford is the man! Thanks for the sub!
@@BrettPapa I like the way you teach. Your enthusiasm, knowledge, and chops show through. Great channel. Thanks for putting in the time.
Totally ROCKS! I loved watching YOU drool all over his TASTY licks!!! AWESOMENESS Ford you are amazing!!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much guys. This lives right in my wheelhouse. Your mutual appreciation for melody and not being shy about playing what makes you feel/play what you feel -- that alone -- is a great thing for players to witness. I've been a rhythm player over 40 years but began to tackle lead eight years ago through self directed home study and endless playing.:) And while Steve Stine, Griff Hamlin and Marty (no last name required Schwartz) have also been super helpful for various pieces of the pie...like I mentioned, I was drawn to how you lead (I really didn't intend that pun) with your heart and just let the joy shine through AND --your instruction is full of great stuff! Imagine that! Awesome. That's what led me to purchase product from you in the first place. Plus, as one who has always been a sucker for the major 7th sound (learning acoustic in the flipping 70's will do that to you:) and tasty spots to infuse it, I really enjoyed this lesson. Lastly, in the past 16 months, I lost the player that meant most in the world to me, so suffice to say it warmed my heart to see long time friends, hanging out, laughing lots and sharing such a profound love for playing. Thank you both for digging the music, playing guitar and for passing it on -- Sue
You are welcome! Thanks so much for the kind words! Thanks for watching! Glad you like the videos!
man I could have fun hanging out with these dudes for an afternoon trading licks over a few cold ones.
Ford is a blast! He will be back soon!
So much gold in this video!

You too! Not quite sure which one you were because I can't see your face but everyone I met was AWESOME!
What a fantastic lesson , Man Ford your style is incredible it was really captivating. THANKS
More coming soon!
Wow! This is just fantastic! First off, that guy is awesome, he's like the Nashville version of the Stache, and then the simple melodic playing. Dang!
Thanks for checking it out!
What camera's are you using now? The pic quality is excellent.
...wow ...tasteful playing .....thx guys "
Sure thing! Thanks for watching!
Not only shred alert. Open shirt alert aswell 😁
Great vid as usual. Thanks. Grab something from yoir vidz every time.
Thanks for coming back!
oh man I love this. Every second of this my face is grinning like an idiot. Thank you!
Haha, glad you liked it!
Love that major7th half step down over the blues. That was a lightbulb for me. I’ll often (for ex. A blues) play a quick lick in the Eminor position, 7th fret, and resolve to A pentatonic or an A major lick, essentially hinting at that Gmaj7th, now that I see what’s going on though the possibilities seem wide open. Thanks!
Could you or someone else here explain this "7th major chord over minor/half step down over blues"-thing to me? Maybe I'm too slow for this video or my english is too bad - but I didnt get it. Thanks a lot in regards!
(Maybe with the example: If I play A minor....)
This guy is amazing if you could make other videos with him it would be awesome! Thanks for the content ! :)
Coming soon!
Man Bret, his playing is just sick! Loved the vid, but the best part for us hacks was watching you....watching him with the same level of amazement and confusion! With that said....you may need to do a video breaking down and teaching everything he showed....cause he went way too fast for us mortals!
Haha! Yeah I might be able to do that for ya.
That is some badass super cool expialidousish shit right there! I wanna get a note to turn around and take on another life right in the middle of a bend like that. Wow. Neat trick with the major 7 stuff a full step below the root. Thanks so much. If I had any money I'd send you some of it
Haha, thanks!
I didnt get that 7 stuff... Explanation needed here. Thanks!
@@HardBoiledKafka that is a tricky outside jazzy move
Just excellent different point of view ! Thanx both of you !
Sure thing!
thanks Brett and Ford.. great stuff... hopefully more of this please!!??
For sure!
Ford is such a monster! Thanks for all the great videos, man.
Sure thing!
P90s are ferocious pups but they are controlled beautifully here!
Ford has an incredible touch on guitar! Really amazing player! To bad he sold that guitar!!!!!
my God fellas... right up my alley thanks guys. you all are right too Trapp is the man.
Thanks for checking it out! Trapp is a monster player!
papastache102 no problem sir thank you for all the videos. if you haven't gotten a chance to check out Kenny Wayne's" While we cry" live at Summerfest you definitely should check it out . I would love for you to teach it.
I've learned a lot from your channel papastache102, you dissect a lot of ideas from other guitarst thanks to Rj ronquillo I saw your channel more power!!! You guys rock!
Thank ya sir!
Watching this a second time that, is just awesome jamming technique!!!! Nicely done stach/ Ford nicely done!!!!!
Thanks!
Great technique. The 3 note arpeggio (movable triad) is a Esus chord I believe, then moved up to Gsus. Very cool!
That was so cool
Thanks for checking it out David!
wonderful lesson.
Thanks for checking it out!
Brett, because if you i now know who Thurston Ford & Guthrie Trapp are. Thx brother!
Sure thing!
Both of you guys are great players! And the analysis is right on the money. But don't you think that too many players try to use "blues boxes" and other visual concepts rather than hearing the aural intervals? In the end, to play on your level you have to "hear it in your mind" and be able to instantly execute it, anticipating where your phrase will go. In other words, you have to "listen" to the piano roll in your mind anticipating how to shape the tension and release in your phrases, landing on the right "target tones" of the chords to punctuate the phrase. Call and response, yin and yang. And the timing has to be on the money, as you pointed out in a previous video. Knowing the theory and even being a good reader of notation is very important, but I believe that musical thought is far swifter and more accurate than the analytical breakdown. More about listening and anticipating where you are heading than thinking. Great stuff, guys!
One other thing. As a more jazz oriented player, I tend to play more "clean" guitar tones and even jazz on a classical nylon string guitar. But what do you feel are the "essential" tools to color your sound? Compression, delay, reverb, black magic? Well...maybe not the last one.
Yeah being able to hear the notes is very important. However most people need a place to start and that is where the shapes come into play. After that the next biggest step is ear training.
Depends on the situation. With what you are doing it sounds like what you mentioned should do the trick. Thanks for watching!
Dude you both cool players man!!!!!!!!
Haha thanks!
Good job, thanks for posting this video
Sure thing!
divided by 13 what a cool amp, this guy is bad ass
Ford is awesome! More from him coming soon!
Great lesson. Thanks.
You are welcome!
Nice tone Ford
It was even better in the room!
Holy crap. Good stuff.
Glad you liked it!
Not flashy but very very classy. Love it!!!!
"You know guitar cuz a song got you there"
So papa stache pop, lol , it was the acoustic parts in PINK FLOYDS "WISH YOU WERE HERE"
That made me so interested i went bought my first guitfiddle , a sigma martin dr-41.
Been playing since.(16years)
But recently i have stoped playing covers and started all over and this time i am using my pinky and it changed everything!
Awesome!
papastache102
You know whats cool, you are so involved ,you have responded to all my comments, maybe one day we can meet and laugh.
You seem super personable, are you a major friggin grump in person?
Just kidding love all you do brett!!
Nailed it!!
Just amazing
Glad you lied it!
Now that's a hat!
Somehow i feel like this can become something like That Pedal Show Series...Different format but same great vibe and atmosphere with lots of usable information...
Thanks! That’s a great show. Would be a blast to do with Ford but he lives I Nashville.
Killer playing. I picture him hunting wild boar when he's not playing guitar.
Pretty much haha! More like hunting killer deals on vintage guitars!
That feedback at 1:03 = GOLD
Holy shit that is a beast les paul and ford is a beast player
Yes and yes! Thanks for watching!
papastache102 shit i watched these two videos 20 times thank you
Np problem! More coming soon!
Great video- The lick around 15:00 pure Jerry Garcia
SO SICK
That’s what I was thinking too!
Them is some tasty licks. Loved it!
Glad you liked it!
Killer stuff. Please tell us about the device on that awesome goldtop's headstock/tuners?? i wanted the new string butler but it doesnt fit on vintage style klusons so what is that on fords guitar?? thnx
Killer stuff guys !! I'm getting bit of a Satriani vibe in a lot of that C major scale noodling.
Thanks for checking it out!
Brilliant lesson
Thanks for watching!
I'm 61, I want to be Ford Thurston when I grow up (would it be possible to check out his pedalboard please ?) Great channel and brilliant videos - you are doing the guitar community a great service Papa.
Thank you sir! Check out his instagram he posts that kind of stuff a lot. It is almost always a DOD Carcosa Fuzz, a Digitech Polaris Reverd, and some kind of delay. Often times it is a Way-Huge Echo-Puss.
Thanks Brett. Ford you are a Bad mother #*%$#! Thanks for sharing. Love the Gold Top! Killer Tone! You Rock!
Sure thing! Glad you liked it!
That was great, but maybe Ford could explain how he thinks about the beat and the accents into it. Thanks for your lessons, man!
Sure thing! More to come!
Great! And don´t forget dynamics topic ;)
Alvaro Franco I think about starting lines on different beats randomly .. to swing I start on 3 .. in this vid I’m more thinking about just playing simple. I sometimes catch myself starting phrases on 1 which isn’t the coolest. Overall .. if it sounds good then it is good ... hopefully !!
😂
This should be a good approach for minor blues over the I chord too.
That les paul sounds sick
Yeah it was a good one!
Killer stuff here!
Thanks for checking it out!
Thanks guys
Sure thing!
The gold standard.
Sure is!
Awesome lesson guys!
Thanks for checking it out!
Good lesson, awesome guitar, that is the number one blues player from the 1950’s GIbson that is highly sought after by all serious Gibson lovers. I would love to have one like it, I have the anniversary reissue with Les Paul’s pic on the headstock but nothing like owning the real McCoy. Check out Robert Plant’s guitarist, he rocks it. Can you please please do a follow up and break this lesson down a little bit more, if you don’t mind. Thanks. I bet NAMM was a blast.
More on the way soon!
I want to hear that rig run down again how Ford gets that screamin’ tone
INSANE
Haha
