Thanks so much for posting. Very fond memories as a then 10 year old Tiger fan.
I had forgotten the tricky LSU kick return procedure.

Great upload of a classic night at Tiger Stadium. Poor Archie was trying to play after breaking his arm on mid season, and was being sent out to play against one of the finest defenses in LSU history, primed for revenge after Manning had ruined their perfect season the previous year. It was a slaughter, a sad precursor to what he would go through when he got to the NFL’s hapless Saints. Fate happily tuned for Archie as he watched two of his boys great careers, and now he will witness his grandson Arch playing at Texas where he’s bound to begin writing his own legend, built upon the character of the great Archie Manning.

I would rather watch these old game than any of the games we have today. This is real football with none of the sissy rules.

I remember this game. I was 9, and at my grandparents. Archie Manning playing in a cast. Gutsy.

Everyone take a look at the fans in the crowd. The men are in suit and tie, the ladies are in dresses. No dancing in the end zone, and no chirping on the field. People during this time had class, 180 degrees from what is found at the game today. Sportsmanship and being respectful. I was also 13 years old in 1970, but my folks couldn't afford to go.

I was at this game as a 13-year-old, with my family in our season tickets in U11 Row DD. My dad had purchased a small black-and-white TV, I carried it in along with the battery pack. The crowd was at fever pitch after Archie kicked our butts the previous two years. We left the game early, heard the roar from inside the stadium on Craig Burns last punt return for TD. Stopped for a minute, turned on the TV to watch the replay! It was a beautiful night to be in good old Tiger Stadium!

LSU went on to lose the de facto national championship to Nebraska. Bama would do the exact same thing the following year. Nebraska was a monster.

Awesome footage. I am pretty sure I watched the game. The punt returns stick out. Casanova was quite good. LSU probably tried to score after the game was over.

LSU might have been angry about getting locked out of the bowl bids in 1969, but the situation was effectively its own fault. The Tigers very much wanted to play in the Cotton Bowl against #1 Texas. Consequently, LSU disregarded early overtures from the Sugar Bowl to keep open a chance to play in Dallas on New Year’s Day.
The Cotton Bowl had a mutual interest with LSU until Notre Dame announced it would end its long running refusal to play in bowl games. Getting Notre Dame was a situation the Cotton Bowl couldn’t turn down. It invited the Fighting Irish to play Texas. LSU was caught completely off guard by Notre Dame getting the Cotton Bowl spot against Texas.
Meanwhile the Sugar Bowl invited Ole Miss. At that point LSU tried to get into the Sugar Bowl but that game secured Arkansas to play the Rebels. All other games had filled their spots while LSU pined for the Cotton Bowl so the Bayou Bengals were shut out of the bowl games entirely that season. Had it accepted the Sugar Bowl’s advances when they came, they’d have played in New Orleans.

It was exciting to be flung into circumstance as a broadcaster, talk-ups to national news alerts or "gapping," when sports feeds went down. That, in my case was when you had a certain amount of ready information to help, here, Bill Owen is trying to make the grade in a teletype world and it's notable there was some kind of Ole Miss roster available to him in New Yawk!
