This isn't real-time in reference to lighting and reflections, at least not photo realistic in which is what was required for this movie. The real-time graphics you are seeing are 3D scans and/or photogrammerty in which have been used in games for awhile now. The key is having light bounce off the models realistically down to slight bumps in material in which no GPU can handle that load in real-time. NVIDIA and AMD RX cards only handle certain part of real-time lighting and reflections in which are more environmental and buffered. Metro Exodus is a good example: Notice how the environment looks damn near real but the character models and skin doesn't look nearly as real because a face is complex, distinct and defined by how light reflects off every single portion of the skin. If any company master that in real-time then it will likely be Sony pushing the boundaries with exclusives, as always.
The work hundreds of CG Artists put into these shots is real. Some respect towards the hundreds of hours put in by many people can be real. You'd have to understand how any of this is done for that tho.
That wouldn't work because everything in video games needs to be real-time. If you were to try and use graphics this intense then nobody would be able to run it. Especially when you consider this was probably done using ray-tracing.
@@PryzmMusic , "Ray Tracing" is an advanced DirectX 12 feature for real-time lighting and reflection in which commonly gets treated like its the "industry standard" but that's just ignorance speaking. NVIDIA used the term to get an edge because its sounds "cool". Sony uses the term only for reference because their consoles doesn't even use Windows. Blender uses "Cycles" for realistic lighting and reflection in which RTX cards still cant handle in real-time, let alone per frame. Ray Tracing is more like EVEE in Blender. Unreal Engine 5 uses Lumen as an alternative to Ray Tracing in which developers will more than likely favor more because its native to the Engine and seems to be native to AMD's RDNA 2 (consoles) so it doesn't require complex drivers and headaches like NVIDIA + RT. In movies, each software has it own term and definition for lighting and reflection. Lastly, the technology seen in this video is actually used in games and its call photogrammetry in combination to HDRI's. That's why Unreal Engine 5 is a big money saver for the movie industry just as much as next-gen games.
It's amazing how these lower budget movies (deadpool, logan) have better looking cgi than big budget blockbusters! Also damn all actors have to do is sit down, get their faces scanned and let a stunt double do most of the work. See that kids, that shit is the future
Stunts =/= Acting. Keep that in mind. Im not sure youve seen that TV Show Iron Fist recently. Martial Arts show with actors who have no martial artists bodytype, movements whatsoever. Id rather have stunt doubles do 90% of work than watch them struggle. That was pathetic.
I thought it was CGI when it was 0:46 because his facial expression was so "basic". With real (professional) actors there are usually also have more subtile facial movements, while here jackmans face is only expressing anger/beast in the most simplistic manner a face could express that. Thanos in Infinity war also had this problem, where his expressions also seemd too "basic" and fake looking.
Honestly this movie has the best CGI I’ve seen in recent years. It’s because it is used sparingly for only when it’s needed, unlike everything else the mcu does which is an over abundance of Cgi.
I can tell you from expierence that that's a load of bullshit. Just because you can't see CG doesn't mean that it isn't there. You see maybe 1% of CGI because it is obvious but you miss 99% of CGI that is right in your face just because it looks real.
It should be the stunt men and CGI guys that get paid the 8 or even sometimes 9 digit figures per film. The big actors themselves seem to be barely in the films.
Even if the actor is fully replaced with CGI, reference goes a long way. Animators can't think of everything without it. BUTT... maybe actors will get paid less and studios can survive without the fear of bankruptcy sometime in the future!
Wow that's sad, this just expose how Hugh Jackman is not capable of reproducing such a simple action scene. This makes me appreciate Tom Cruise more lol
I don't understand why they needed a stunt double for that last sequence. Jackman was more than physically capable to do that. Seems kind of pointless. Imagine if they asked Tom Cruise to do that? He would be like fuck that lol.
You know hes old and fighting with cancer? Im pretty sure at times he struggles with day-to-day activities and youre asking if he could do dynamic action sequence? 10 years ago, no probs.
He's had skin cancer, it's not like his whole body is deteriorating. The dude looks unbelievable good for his age and is in absolute top physical shape eating nothing but healthy food all the time, I doubt he struggles with day to day activities. These sci-fi action scenes stretch what humans can really do which is why often stuntmen/cgi are used to fill in the gaps
They're probably using a minimum of 10 programs for this, all highly specialized to fulfill one small part in creating the final image. You could remake paul walker, but probably not to this accuracy. The reason they can get so insanely close to realism here is because they can use the actor to get data from a whole ton of photography, shown at 1:39 in this video. So basically, without having the live actor to scan for 3D data, you won't get this close. But maybe you will in 5-10 years :)
jmhummelbrummel it's not as if he didn't do any acting at all, they just wanted the stunts to look more realistic with the stuntmen. In the past people complained that stuntmen looked nothing like the actors, problem solved. The people working on VFX still get paid and even better if they're a fan of the franchise. It leads them on to bigger and better films as well. They get paid for working on things they are passionate about.
yes they do but it is still work. To me it feels like sometimes the passione of the artist gets abused by the industry as an argument to make them work hard and long but without paying them the appropriate compensation. Also to me it seems like the artists *have* to work this hard or they don't get work at all and at the end of the day are these people those who create most of the images we see on our screens. It just seems very unfair to me that there is this huge gap between wages.
you are correct he earns all that money because people recognize him yes. But as you can see you dont really need him, his face will be replaced anyway and if it is not replaced entirely, armies off makup artists and VFX artist still make him look like that. I understand why he gets the money he gets but I do think that it is a very unfair system and it abuses the artists compassion.
I can see why they used a CG double for these shots. One, the car chase shot is pretty dangerous for a leading actor... and two, the forest shot took a lot of stunting and coordination. Not that a leading actor couldn't do those, it just shows how CG done right can be seamless w/ great filmmaking.
Yeah I know how you feel. The forest scene I really thought it was Jackman doing it all, but seeing this and others clips. The stunt guy was really Logan lol...🤷🏻♂️ I feel cheated.
when the actors aren't even real
I mean, they are but with CGI
People still have to work for hundreds of hours to get this right. It's an artform it itself.
@Follow God:God loves you repent it will be worth it God bless you all💕💜♥️
Why did they need a body double for that scene running through the forest??
it's cool how the music makes it feel creepy

Cinematic CGI really shows the future of Real-Time Graphics in games.

wow is there anything real in movies now lol
only the money you pay to see them
I mean how else would you propose they pull off these scenes? It’s a lot of reality bending stuff or challenging things to capture

I hope they can allowed to use these kinds of technology to make a video game. That would be so perfect

That's some high poly shit right there 😂😂
THIS WORLD IS INSANE.
this video makes me wonder if Hugh Jackman did any of the stunts
It's amazing how these lower budget movies (deadpool, logan) have better looking cgi than big budget blockbusters! Also damn all actors have to do is sit down, get their faces scanned and let a stunt double do most of the work. See that kids, that shit is the future

While they may not be near the highest budget films, about 100 million can hardly be considered "lower budget" imo
James but it is considered low in the movie industry. I agree isn’t low to me as well haha
You don't seem to know what you're talking about.
It's mean we were watching the fake Hugh Jackman in all action scene?
The CG blending in the forest and having Logan meet X-24 was seamless
@Follow God:God loves you repent it will be worth it God bless you all💕💜♥️
WTF!!! So Hugh Jackman didn't even run!?? All made by a stung with a CGI head? They got me completely, this is scary as hell, I mean, WHAT THE FFFF
I'm like was Hugh Jackman even in this movie!?
A few more years and actors don't have to do shit anymore! They will be the face, no more no less.
damn, just imagine how this technology will be used for porn in the future, fully customizable tbh
I thought that berserker rage was really hugh jackman but now I see the real one It's just a cgi
So Hugh didn't play Logan😅 what was the point if they just cgied his face over the stunt double. You don't even need to show up on set anymore.
1:19 - They could've released the aspect ratio for IMAX 1.43:1
Could we get these guys, with these assets to shrink Hugh Jackman now 1 foot, down to 5'3", like they did with the Hobbits?
Witchcraft

These guys are the best at what they do.

Hopefully they weren’t overworked
Some years later we will not need actors :D

Thats pretty scary
Whoa this is sick :O
I don't even notice all of this
Now I want a new Wolverine game.
You have seen the future it seems
So...
Holy shit. İ thought it was makeup. But no. İt is CGI!! Its just like video game...
That's what happens when modern CGi is used like it was used in Jurassic Park.
I thought his hair looked fake pretty much the whole movie. Was that CGI or a wig?
Shure they will use this 3D model in the future to make new movie with hugh jackman ever...
Wow I want to do the same!!!) But I do much more simple works in 3D right now..
Him beatboxing: 1:48 best beatboxer: shut up!!!
Wow
CAPTAIN PRICE 🔥
I love Logan much love for Hugh Jackman Wolverine
they could make a game with this engine or not ?
It's complicated work
Wolvernie
Can they use this model in game ?
I did not see that the first time
There are no actors in the future
So did Hugh do his own stunts?
couldn't Hugh "Logan" Jackman have pulled that off without CG ?

Cgi has come a long way, this is damn impressive
Make video games like this
That is some really amazing CGI. I can't wait for the day when actors aren't the face of a movie.
Best actor is cgi design
How they track logan running 🤔
I am a CG artist, you basically have to go frame by frame.
OH MY GAD!
