if you have trouble unplugging removing the center trim/vent piece (hazards, door lock, DTC), you can push the controls from the insides out towards you. it comes out in a cube/square shape fairly easily. this makes unplugging and reconnecting it so much easier.

@@cdb5001 if you’re referring to the black square shaped thingy, then no. You just push it from the back towards you and it slides out if I remember correctly.

MMI boxes are definitely a superior option over replacing the screen 9/10 times.

Can you tell me your experience as I’m looking into different options and I’m torn which way I should go.
For me it also seems that most of these new screens just seem to be rebranded cheap aliexpress ones with a big bump in price.
@@Keka-vg3utit’s just more quality sticking with OEM as much as possible. A lot of people have issues with the quality of a lot of these screens. Most of them are being made in China, and while they may look nice for a little, they break a lot

Installed one today and I tell you your video helped but man it’s very hard to tuck the new harness behind the radio. Took me like an hour to play with the wires as there is zero room.
It was tough hiding them, that’s for damn sure 😂

MMI boxes like this are the best route. Had a "all-in-one" screen replacement on my M3 which was trash. Never again

I just answered you in a comment above. Yes, you can switch from OEM to CarPlay and back by pressing the menu button for two seconds.

I got question. My MULF2 module is not working. can't comnect the Bluetooth. I plan to change it with applecar play/android auto and remove the MULF2 module. Can i connect to the apple car play without the MULF2 module with all the function works well ? Please help me 🙏
my CIC has handfree and bluetooth options. so I don't need any external mic and aux cable?
How's the sound quality of this unit playing music through car play? Some people say the sound quality is degraded on some MMI boxes because they use the aux input to get the audio to the factory system.
Mine sounds excellent. Of course the quality of the file or stream you are playing makes a huge difference but no one would expect it is just an aux input.

FM antenna connects to the original iDrive unit in the same place. As far as I know, there is no way to play FM radio through a FM signal on an Android or iPhone. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

How was you able to manage to fit all the harness in the rear of the stereo? I'm having trouble putting it back, head unit is 1/2 inch out
throw the shifter in drive to give yourself space and tuck the harnesses
I had to use a small saw to cut and fabricate the hard black plastic trim inside to help tuck those big pieces. THAT was the hardest part of the whole install.
My aux in port is not working, already tried different cable and phone. Aux is selected yes, any ideas somebody?

What does CIC, CCC, and NBT mean? I just bought a 2007 335i convertible and I’d like to get this. Ensure if it will work for me
This is for 2009 and above. The website has one for your year but you have to remove the screen it’s a different set up
CCC is the old system for the on board menus, CIC is newer - 2009 up. NBT is the most recent one.
Does this allow you to enter gps address into your maps app on your phone? In other words, does it mirror your phone or do you have to do everything using the controls in the car?

The iPhone is basically mirrored.

yes, you can still access the iDrive menus with the system status

It allows you to switch back to view the iDrive settings etc

yes, you can alternate between oem and carplay/android auto by holding idrive button for 5 seconds or so@@rimac6445
@@rimac6445 You can easily switch from CarPlay to the OEM software. If I remember correctly it is mostly done by holding the menu button two seconds (to switch from CarPlay to OEM and back).

If the car has Bluetooth Audio enabled from the factory, you don’t need to route the AUX to the glovebox
@@IzzyE9X my car only has Bluetooth for the phone. It also has the aux input which sounds terrible.
My sound quality got better through the aux since it added a customizable EQ. Not even the newer 2014+ cars had an EQ. If you have factory Bluetooth on your car, you can just route your audio through there. It's not like the sound quality on pre-2009 BMW was life-changing anyway.
@@muscleunlimited5668 huh ok, my car has a 7 band equipment with the logic 7. But no BT audio which sounds terrible anyways. Also the aux sounds bad so I'm confused why it is being used here
@@TheMadcowintucson Because it’s incredibly hard to intercept the optical signal on BMWs, Mercedes, Audi, etc. it’s just the way many manufacturers design their amps and CANBUS system.
As someone who has a HK system on my f80 m3, the difference was minimal and I’d never go back to not having CarPlay 😂
i can‘t get the ducking wires in the back. the connector without the optic cable is too huge

If you already have an Android screen then no. This will work on your factory/original screen of any BMW. I bought one last month

Yup it keeps everything intact. Just did the mod.

Does this mean we don’t have to worry about CCC or CIC anymore? My CCC system is broken and I’m looking to upgrade, would this still work for me even though my CCC system is broken? I was thinking it would be fine if I’m only going to be using the CarPlay software anyways.
Get a used unit if you can if it isn't just the screen scrap yard always got em cheap.

It’s much easier and better to install a new Android touch screen display unit. No extra “box” or “idrive controller “ connector. This product is over engineered !
@@IzzyE9X if the goal is just CarPlay then it’s very unlikely that you’re going to get lower quality. Android units are plug and play and less effort, you just need to connect harness.
For sure, just depends where/who you purchase from. If you can land a good quality Multimedia Screen, for a good price (which BimmerDirect sells), that’s a good option. For those wanting to keep their OEM fitment, build quality etc, the MMI is a good choice. The main negative I’d say aftermarket Multimedia screens will have is not as good heat resistance as to where the MMI box can be hidden in the footwell away from the sun. In all honesty, comes down to preference and price!
Ridiculous comment. Android touch screens are much lower quality than MMI boxes. I install these for a living and this comment is laughable. MMI is the superior option 9/10 unless your screen is damaged.
Newsflash: You need to connect the drive connector on android screens also. If you didn't... you installed yours incorrectly. Also most android screens are not good quality at all compared to the MMI
