    I worked as a service technician for a large pro video rental company in London in the 90's. These PVM's were very popular at the time, especially the 21 and 27 inch sizes. I loved the neat side control panels, and they were easy to move with the large handles - really great design. The main recurring problem with them was failure of the HT voltage multiplier - the potted red module connected to the anode cap.

    • @justdev8965
      @justdev8965 2 роки тому

      Inexcusable. The engineering team should have caught up on that! It sounds like a gaffe in the multiplier's design!

    I have a 39" Mitsubishi Pro monitor. I saw it on Craigslist one day and noticed it had RGB connections on the back. I went to see it and realized it was a rare medical monitor for viewing specialty healthcare stuff. It was mfg in 99'. The picture is truly incredible. It killed me moving the thing. It was way heavier than I realized. Never found anything about it online. It has virtually every kind of input.

    Considering how heavy my PVM-1953MD feels, I can't imagine lifting a 32" one. I hope your back recovers nicely, what a monster tube!

      Got a free 40" Trinitron (consumer) about a month ago 288LBS ,had a week of fun and many trips to Retro Tech to remind me how to service crts again , had to use planks and casters and manpower to get that into my place lol.
      I can feel the lifting this PVM too.

    When doing solid state electronic restorations, I've always avoided using a brush to do any dusting because that creates static which can damage transistors and op amps. I've found it best to take the unit outside and use compressed air and a wet microfiber cloth, and wet Q-tips for really stubborn areas.

    • @alexvids9232

    That NeoGeo cabinet and that 32 PVM! I visted SNK in Torrance, CA in the early 90s all the time, Chad"The Gamelord" Okata had that same Sony PVM in his office, the warehouse was full of Arcade Cabinets, think they used Wells Gardner monitors, fun times

    • @CommodoreGreg
      @CommodoreGreg 3 роки тому

      Dull is probably worn phospors in the CRT. In this situation I personally would give a small boost to the screen voltage to partially offset the problem and then live with it until it's too dim. You don't want to crank the screen voltage though because it's both hard on the electronics and can cause x-ray radiation issues.

    I recently got a 2730QM that I need to clean up and possibly recap the power and d board. This video is a big help. When dusting the boards off initially, should the tube be discharged?
    Thanks for making these videos. They are a massive help in learning about these complex machines.

    That weight is ridiculous. Heck, I find a 20" PVM to be impractical in a lot of situations because of the 30kg weight and bulkiness. The 14" PVMs are probably the best as you can move them by yourself without issue, and the smaller Dot-Pitch means you get a sharper looking image in comparison to a larger variant.
