  • Starting Diagnosis on why my HM203-6 I got from a car boot sale, just stopped working the day after I got it working after 2 years in storage.
Please observe care if you are attempting a repair, you will be exposed to voltages in exccess of 1000V!
I initially identified it as a HM203-7, stupidly.

I aquired two of this model from an Ebay seller and Managed to fix both of them.
All the issues boiled down to short circuit capacitors ( the little blue 0.1's )and their associated feed resitors / diodes. Took me a long 2 days to sort out the issues but now have 2 perfect scopes.
I did spend all my working life repairing to component level but Boy Oh Boy these wher a challenge.

+Plan C definitely!, power off, connect points, power on, repeat and always be near the outlet your connected to just in case it does go wrong.

Dear SIr, thanks for yours vidéos
I have a question : I have buy an old Hameg 203-6. All is ok BUT the value on the screen is 20x the real value. For exemple, with mesurement on a power supplier at 2 V, the line on the scope is 40v ( no issu with setting Y ). And it's same for the 2 channels.
Do you have an idear for help ??
    Thanks in advance

allard sylvain sounds like you have set to x10 and uncalibrated the amplitude per divisions

    My Oscilloscope Hameg 203-6
I have nothing on the screen and in the Y end amplified in the R 932 have 150 Volt on one side and the other side have 40 Volt, the transistor T723 is fine.
On the other hand R923 is well on both sides I have 150 volt.
    CRT problem will be:

"that's 6volts, I can measure that safely" is a dangerous impression.... could be a high-voltage breakdown that broke the heating-element.... if in doubt, use HV-equipment or atleast safetymeasures. People killed themself with LV-probes because >1000V came through a unseen crack in the insulator....
Oh and guys and girls: never touch a not safely discharged CRT-PCB. Even if off for hours there could be a dangerous voltage. I bit on my tounge as his fingers moved over there....

PhischTV I disconnected the tube...yes there is 1000V but is generated by a diode cap multiplier bridge so it’s quite high impedance so will nip you but kill you? Still pays it employ some common sense.

@@chriswouse7713 Yeah, common sense is the thing people sometimes forgot. :) I just fear some "encouraged" viewer could atleast hurt themself badly. :)
