As a Kiwi, what I've always admired most about the Boks was that they have no equal when it came to all-out war. Now they have sublime skills, coaching and a depth of talent. Love them or hate them they have the best fans and as a team are incredible and come from an incredible nation.

I wondered at the wisdom of firing John Plumtree. He coached very successfully in SA and being familiar with the country and could have better prepared and steadied the ABs on Saturday. Secondly, the All Blacks have long followed a policy of continuation in that the assistant coach succeeds the head coach which worked for years and I wondered why we don't do the same but I think that policy has run its course as the All Blacks have stagnated under the system of different coaches but same coaching style. Hopefully they will get things sorted soon as a strong All Blacks team is a necessity in world rugby.

NZ Rugby made their bed now they must lie in it. NZ Rugby kicked us out our Super Rugby not the other way around. We took our teams and our broadcast revenue and went to Europe. Its for the best. SR revenue was being unfairly split anyway. We had 60% of the viewership of SR since 1996, but only got 33% of the revenue from the broadcast deal. So South Africans, by paying for Dstv actually bankrolled NZ and Aus rugby from 96 till COVID hit.
NZ rugby thought they were being clever when they booted us out and wanted to go it alone. Now they dominate SRP. Aus and Pacific teams are cannon fodder. This means NZ teams win almost very game, thus weakening their domestic game. I for one and delighted to see NZ Rugby fall from grace. For far too long they have been the darlings of World Rugby that could do no wrong despite the cheating of their players. They got away with wins and murder for decades. They deserve everything they are currently getting.

we have our first loss to Ireland away, then first loss at home to them, then into the first series loss to them, first series loss in NZ in 40-50 years and only 3rd time in our history... biggest loss to SA in 94years, our worst test ranking in history, now lost 5 of last 6 tests now- which I'm pretty sure has never happened before (if it has it would have been more than 50+ years ago) we drew and lost to Aussie last year in the 3 rugby championship games we played against them and the first ever loss to Argentina...
There are plenty more terrible records there I'm just getting tired of writing them hahaha.
By far the worst all blacks team possibly ever.....
The crazy thing is, I believe we still have the best depth of players, we simply have no tactics, no defense and the team selection is based on loyalty -they just pick the same out-of-form old guys, simply because they've always been there. Our best fullback is on the bench or the wing and arguably our best first five eight is on the bench.... Two key positions filled with dudes simply because their last name is Barrett and that's it...
Not to mention half our forwards are picked based off this loyalty crap, rather than form, youth and hunger.. Ah well, if we are not gonna try to change, we cannot expect a different result...
I see us as around the 6th best team now - behind SA, Ireland, France, England, possibly Wales/Aussie (will have to wait and see how we play v Aus to judge that) and that's all one year to a world cup. It would be the biggest miracle for us to make any kind of splash at the world cup, we are destined for a quarter final exit at this stage... Wouldn't worry about us, Ireland, England, France much more dangers for you Saffas

The ABs definitely have the man power and flair to beat any team on any day, I just feel that it was a poor execution or lack of execution of a game plan. As soon as the ABs start getting ball from broken play and swinging it through the hands, any team is in trouble. The North seem to write them off already, if the ABs get 1 or 2 good results then all of a sudden you will be facing a confident AB team and we all know how tough that can be to beat.

Selectors in NZ love kids aged 16 6ft 3 tall and 120kgs in size. Difficulity is picking the big kids is a short term gain if the tournament is in 6 weeks. NZ rugby needs to develop players that are not using a physical advantage to be very good in their position and give them a pathway so that when they are big enough we have players with game sense and the ability to understand their role within a team. A perspective from England. The Boks were much the better side and their game plan didn’t need to be incredibly complex - to me, it was based upon simply “pressurise the ABs with aggressive defence and chase-able kicks”. I saw no plan from ABs to counteract that. Of course, the Boks will always be big men, aggressive and focussed; nothing is ever different about that. Number one is to get parity in the sets and the rucks - you might not be able to dominate the scrum or pinch much line out ball - but you have to secure your own; you have to resource the rucks so that, it might be slow ball on occasion but it’s not lost ball.
None of that is any surprise - any startling revelation - to a rugby fan or player. Resolving it comes down to the coaching team and the leadership group of players to come up with the right game plan and stick to it. If it’s the right game plan, then don’t panic and throw it away; stick to it until the coach says “time to go to plan B”. Personally, I don’t think the Boks will play differently next week, next month or next year. Why should they? The beat England at the RWC by being the Boks and England didn’t have the right plan to negate them.
Have the ABs got the right players? I can’t say because i don’t see enough NZ rugby now to offer opinions - but it would be incredible to me to think that NZ have suddenly become bereft of sufficient numbers of quality players. What game plan should the ABs have? I was a reasonable club player and never have been a coach but my instinct is parity up front and then kick to corners in order to move the big guys around; the backs should be a combination of getting it out wide very quickly and/or kick behind the line of backs so that the Boks have to turn and go back. So much easier said than done but top class players should be able to do it.

@@gavinchester6890 thanks for that Gavin. A lot to take in. I can’t comment on the race thing as I would have no idea what goes on behind the scenes. I can see that the NZRFU, being relatively poor compared to France, Ireland and England, have to put rules in place to slow/stop an exodus of players and coaches but there is “restraint of trade” whereby any clause in a comment no matter previously signed which would be seen as restraining someone from earning a living elsewhere is automatically unfair (and therefore illegal). There is also an issue with forbidding someone to earn a living playing or coaching a competitor; that also has to be treated quite carefully as I had a clause in an employment contract which sought to forbid me working for a competitor for 2 years; I challenged it and won. . I would guess NZ has something similar. So, you can say no overseas players for the ABs because that’s not restraining their ability to earn a living but it’s very hard to forbid someone to do something after their employment with you has ended.
One of the joys of rugby is that body size isn’t the be-all-and-end-all. There is room for the fatties and the girls in the backs at the lower levels. How you ensure that all sizes get equal opportunities is another argument.

Saffa here, never ever write off New Zealand. Sure they are having a bad run at the moment but they will bounce back hard! Its a bumpy road that all good sides eventually go through in my opinion.

The AB 's willing their feet again. Never write them off. I am happy SA won, but AB is still my second favorite team. Don't give up on these guys they will make you proud again.

Everyone goes on and on about how bad AB’s are but both the Boks and Ireland played brilliant. There is work that needs done behind the scenes, but credit needs to go to the Boks and Ireland for 3 great games

I don't get it much. This NZ side is very good and could have won the game if they had been sharper. I don't see much for them to worry about at all. I guess it's the fact that they expect to win everything, but the northern hemisphere sides are playing superb rugby right now, and the books were just physically outstanding at the front on the day

Players just don't look like they trust the system...and who could blame them really. Its incredibly hard to suddenly get that confidence back whilst under the same coaching staff, it just won't get better, in fact it will deteriorate further, AB are in for a monumentally poor WC, if they do not remove Fosie after next test, win, lose or draw.

This could be controversial/ I'll get alot of hate for it. But part of it to me feels like arrogance from the Nz players and coaches. They've been so dominant the last decade or so and that's probably gone into the coaches and squad. The trying to run everything out kinda shows that to me at least

  • @kingofthecuntsfromcuntasia3286

When you have a couple of the Chiefs running the show what does one expect? Dismal performance after dismal performance will undoubtedly be the norm

As a Kiwi we know Fozzie is a goner, so whats next? Hopefully a Razor/Schmidt combination. Ryan's nullification of SA's driving maul means he will definitely be the mix. NZ has the talent and depth to fix this but its going to take time. I think we need to blood new players into the AB's squad. If you don't perform and meet the standards thats expected you get dropped, simple. I think if we can at least be competitive in the RC and end of yr northern tour I'd be fine with that but with a focus on being in the final 4 of the RWC. But hyey dreams are free atm

they wont replace foster, to do so, is too admit they got the whole process of selection wrong with henry on the panel and a netball coach, also cane came along with foster, they also don't wnt to give the payout to both cane and foster because no head coach will keep cane

So many of these comments...but as a saffa....ab's were not not that far off tbh....they were only a few moments away from scoreing maybe even possibly winning.....even though we dominated statistically speaking I have to admit we only just managed to cover once or twice. This team is not far off.... be patient with them
