Great video! I'm a professional picture framer and have my phone propped up and watch/listen to camping videos. Yours is great! Being a Boy Scout leader for 10 years taught me so much and you are correct with eating cheese before bedtime. I taught the kids to eat cheese and/or salami because the high fat content which your body burns very slowly and keeps you warm. I also taught them to have macaroni. The carbs help with energy and warmth and by saving the water that they boiled the macaroni in and drinking it the next day, it was filled with carbs that they drank as they stayed hydrated.
I watched this video again in the the middle of summer and am even more impressed with Alexis. She did this in February... in Canada. I am reminded of a primitive camping trip I took over July 4th weekend once in Central Idaho. It was so cold we had to stay up most of the night by the fire to keep warm. Almost impossible to sleep and that was July in Idaho. Kudos to her for this.
I use to have to do ranges up in northern minnesota and we would do 4-7 days in the snow, just shooting all day, and digging holes to drop our bags in, or setting tarps to redirect wind. The first day is the worst then by the end of the week you go into a building and youre sweating. Good times.

Awesome! First time viewer and I'm very impressed with your content. Brings back some memories of winter camping in northeast MN. and the wonderful characteristics of birch bark for starting fires. There has been a lifetime of mountaineering and minimalist camping since then and the party's not over. New camp tips are always worthy of exploration.

I really enjoy your videos, a tip that I learned while I was in the military is put your boots in your sleeping bag so they warm up that way you won’t have to put warm feet in cold boots. Hope this helps keep up the good work.
There are those that "Can Do" and those who Can't. Those that Can't get angry when people show there appreciation for the Can Doos and out come the down votes.....
Such things are ever a mystery :shrugs:. Could be bots, could be folk who just downvote everything because they have a bitter spirit. You have a good looking Canadian lass doing outdoors things with obvious competence and mixing in some how-to hints and tips ... what's not to like?
Just finally got a chance to watch this - great video! I can relate to battery issues in the cold... One "tip" and one suggestion - free and worth every penny... To fold up tarps solo, bring along a couple of small carabiners. Lash two corners of the tarp to a couple of the trees with cordage and the carabiners in the gromets. These act as another set of hands to hold the corners while you shake/fold to them. My suggestion is just a personal habit. I try to keep my pack closed (zipped/buckled) at all times. The only time I leave compartments open is when it is stored or drying out (both cases it's empty). That way if I have to grab it and go for any reason I know it is secure and I'm not going to be scattering gear all over. Also - that wood must have been incredibly dry. That and/or birch bark must really burn (never tried it myself). Both times when you dropped large bundles of what I'd call relatively big kindling on the burning bark I expected it to smother-out - but it burst into flames! My fire laying skills are mediocre at best - if I did that, I'd wipe it out and be starting over. ;-)
Lol at least you realize it….People that watch UA-cam literally LIVE through these people and never leave their house, all day long watching someone else live THEIR life…..i think Its weird as hell lol
Greetings from Southern Arizona… (Originally from Nova Scotia). In today’s crazy world, you are such a treat to listen to. Great advice, awesome attitude and wonderful videography/editing. There is certainly a shortage of people like you in the world. Thanks for sharing your adventure.
Hey Alexis. Great job out there! Some thing I would make a little different or just adding...I would use something for ground insulation, use saw just a little and then just break the wood (will safe a lot of your energy and teeth on saw),wrap meat products in heavy duty foil (will cook faster),bad idea to have alcohol in cold weather (the fact is that due to vasodilation, the human body begins to cool down faster. Opened pores give off heat, which causes rapid hypothermia),you can use plastic store bags wrapped around your feet inside shoes but do that if you have spare/dry socks...
Wonderful video! You handled this trip skillfully, responsibly and with good sprit. I've done almost a 1:1 trip, and it's no joke, especially with that wind you had there. I've also had to turn back out of concern for my dog twice this winter, good on you for making the right choice in advance, and also for being upfront about the uneasy feeling you get going in to a trip like this alone. I love your videos so much and Texas is having a snow storm this weekend and it’s going to be in the 0s for the high record for Texas please stay safe out there on the roads everyone .
Careena you truly can call you a Winter Camper it takes a lot of stamina to to stay with it you are a great trooper I applaud you Careena 👍🏾👍🏾😊
Greetings from Croatia !!!!
It's refreshing to watch you work, Take Care.
Time spent alone is still time spent with the world
She makes this look easy. Whenever I go get set up camping I'm cussing about why I didn't just stay home at least once.
"She's bad ass!" I kept saying this to myself throughout your video. My respects to you and your channel. First time watching you and I love the channel.
I love the sound of cracking woods 🪵
Not sure I could fall asleep without my dog with me. Brave!!
I put my socks around the water bottle then when I wake I put them in my boots and lay in the bag for a bit. Makes it a little better putting them on in the morning.
Thanks for sharing! This video is giving me some great ideas on how to better winter camp. Very helpful tips, especially the snow anchors being installed.
I really enjoy your videos, a tip that I learned while I was in the military is put your boots in your sleeping bag so they warm up that way you won’t have to put warm feet in cold boots. Hope this helps keep up the good work.
This is IDEAL cuddling weather
How could 21 people not like this video?

My fire laying skills are mediocre at best - if I did that, I'd wipe it out and be starting over. ;-)
Jeez, I know I gotta get out more when I sit here watching somebody chop wood for five minutes.
Lol at least you realize it….People that watch UA-cam literally LIVE through these people and never leave their house, all day long watching someone else live THEIR life…..i think Its weird as hell lol

Subbed immediately because you never see female bushcraft stuff and I wasn't disappointed in the quality of your video. 👍
Thanks very much!!
Awesome video! Definitly learned some things to make our overnight trips more of a success than what we've done
A UA-camr who knows her audience. Here’s your grizz fix.
Great video.
Hahah thank you!
Ну наконец-то вы одели шапочку, здоровье это главное.
You are simply brilliant and a wonderful dog owner too.
Grizz just emailed me and said he is starting his own channel since you didn't take him on this outing... You might wanna have a chat with him.. 🙃
Nice. Well done!
What's the theme of the channel?
Basil Brushcraft !
@@silentrabbit247 thats a good pup you got
Wonderful video! You handled this trip skillfully, responsibly and with good sprit. I've done almost a 1:1 trip, and it's no joke, especially with that wind you had there. I've also had to turn back out of concern for my dog twice this winter, good on you for making the right choice in advance, and also for being upfront about the uneasy feeling you get going in to a trip like this alone. Looking forward to the next one!
You’re boyfriend is a lucky man for having such a resourceful woman.
yes he is i would like to keep her warm
this is for sure

Good to meet you. I'm glad you chose this over becoming a super model, because surely, you could have become that. Keep it up lady.
Deshalb nochmals
Gratulation...... für deine großartige Arbeit........... Dankeschön ❤
Capturing a bunch of that fire heat into rocks (in addition to the water bottle) would have been a good idea.
When it's cold out, wrap that sleeping bag in a space blanket or two and you should be toasty. I've slept in a wool blanket wrapped with the space blanket and poncho in 0 degree temps.
Personally, the reason why I dont go out into the woods for hiking and camping, is due to the fear of being alone and something happening. 😅 so your much braver than I. Love the video none the less.
You’re more alone and unsafe in your home or in the city
I love your video and I really do feel more comfortable just watching something else go out camping than doing it myself.
I just enjoy your videos so much, you are so smart, lovely young woman, may you always be happy safe in your life.I’m waiting to see the next video.thank you so much 😆😊
Speaking as Griz's legal counsel, you have avoided substantial litigation by leaving my client at home in front of the fireplace.
So... she camps, drinks beer, eats jerky, loves dogs. What's not to like? Subscribed.
Being pretty on top of all that never hurts either.
38:34 can't blame that on grizz this time ! 😳 😝😂 cheers eh!
I heard that too.
And it was loud!!!!! 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I fell in love with this video out in the forest so nice and beautiful ❤️
Wow I learnt so much, nobody ever posted this same thing over and over, trully something different
Can you complain to UA-cam about the amount of commercials in your video absolutely ridiculous
Get UA-cam plus, no commercials and you can download videos so when you don’t have a signal you can play them. It costs like $9 a month but I watch full length movies with no distractions, no commercials. For me it’s worth it.
I agree. The amount of ads is crazy. Not just on her vids.
if you use the 'Brave Browser' its free and you wont see any ads
@@still-jlynn Another "Brave" user. It's great watching with no interruptions. I later let the vid run in another browser while not watching. Thinking of how no commercials affects the channel revenue.
THAT'S HOW SHE GETS PAID, BY THE COMMERCIALS...SHE CAN'T COMPLAIN TO UA-cam...
I’m sure you have “What am I doing out here ? “ moments at times
And then promptly yells "SHOW ME THE MONEY !!!!
Isn't it funny that when campers aren't camping, they're watching camping videos? Thanks!
