I too am a gear junkie. Upgrading gear to lighter weight, ease of use, more durable. It's like playing an RPG game and the excitement of finding new cool stuff. You find out how good your gear is in extreme weather real quick. Nothing better than the silence of the cold forest. The tranquility that it brings you. Great video btw. I will watch more.

Looks like you had a pretty good trip into the woods! Nothing beats the feeling when your fingers are cold, darkness is slowly coming, and the kindling finally starts to catch fire. When the fire starts burning and you feel the warmth coming back to your hands, body and even soul, you have just bought yourself a few more hours of relief. As long as you have collected enough firewood that is. Awesome video!

I am actually happy that I ran across these videos, they actually help me sleep, I don't know if it is because I think about these videos and pretend that I am out there in the cold sleeping in a tent in this kind of weather or what it is, but these videos sure do help, thank you for sharing.❤

Brings back many memories. My Scout troop used to winter camp when I was a boy. The coldest we ever did was -32 with open floor Baker tents. Back then, our camp gear was chuck boxes towed in on toboggans. A severe trip and quite a few hardships but nobody lost a body part. The best part I remember is roasting strips of bacon on sticks over the fire and eating them hot, greasy, and rubbery. Yum! Good job and I hope you inspire more people to learn how to do these things and then go do them!

60 year old here. Started out as an adolescent in "traditional" tenting/hunting in all seasons here in Ontario. My father trained me in bushcraft from the age of 12 and after 48 years, I still think its the best. Canvas tarps, wool blankets, and open fire cooking... nothing beats it .
That looks like someone really solid gear. I recently moved to North Idaho and quickly learned to appreciate birch bark. Spending winter in a 12x14 wall tent.

You can always tell when someone has a real love of the things they do when not working. Look at all that effort spent for a single day, night, and morning before packing up and heading out again. I’m jealous. I’ve never found anything that I like so much.

What i like to carry with me in cold weather is a hand full of cotton balls soaked in Canning Wax. In the times when you need some help, they work great. I also use emergency flares. I cut them up in 1'' wide pieces and light time to start fires in winter conditions when the wood seems to be wet. Just a suggestion. Keep up the Videos. Thanks

Always love watching these little adventures, mostly because even though you are experienced and have skills, you still go and try things out, and you're humble about the little glitches. That's why solo backpacking is so amazing. We get to make the experience our own, dealing with the elements, enjoying our gear, and savoring the food and the many precious moments along the way. I envy how you can find these great spots. What is near me is so restrictive in terms of where to camp, how and where to make fires, etc. I can't wait to get out again. Thanks to you my 17 year old daughter and her friend are off to the Highlands of Scotland for the weekend. Not as cold as there but probably - 4° with high winds. Unfortunately no wood there to cut for fire. But she has pre cooked stew just to warm it up when she gets tent erected. Great video. Thanks for the video.
It has been many a year since we had had snow in Scotland. I really really do miss it. I absolutely love being up in the Highlands far from the madding crowd and chill out for two weeks or so. Wonderful to have ice cold washes and to snuggle down in my -55'C sleeping bag. Lucky girl! 🌹 Funnily enough, when I lived on the Western edge of the Sahara over a ten year period, I used Spanish blankets no matter if it was the hot or cold season. At 03:30 the planet cools down and it is necessary to wrap up, even in the Sahara.

I've literally lived at 6000ft elevation and long winters my entire life but the sound of snow crunching still gives me the chills.
But that's exactly why I am watching this. Because if I ever hope to camp I need to learn how to camp in the snow.

You might want to try a blow straw when trying to reignite embers. You can focus the point of air directly where the embers are and you wont get ashes blowing in your eyes or mouth!

Today was better to get outside, I love my Merino wool blend socks when I’m out in the cold and my under layers made with Merino wool- breathable and doesn’t itch and moisture wicking.... thank you for taking us along! 🌲❄️🔥🌟

Lovely setting. I really love proper winter putting up a basha (military term for tarp) in the winter. Much nicer than a bug infested summer camp.
It occurred to me that your awesome fire/stove would really benefit from a piece of wire mesh over it. That would make cooking super easy and need only be half the size of the fire itself. Just a thought.

All the outdoor equipment from Spain and Italy I own is amazing stuff. I know as Canadians we get off thinking we always have the best gear ... doesn’t work that way when it’s been outsourced to China.

Kudos to you for going out on such a challenging night. I have a question: you mentioned that your tarp wasn’t the best for the setup that you used. What shape and dimensions is your tarp, and what shape would be better for a plowpoint setup? Thanks Careena.
10X10 is the most ideal size, Bushcraft Spain makes an oilskin that size so its on my wish list lol but this one was just rectangular, any tarp that is square is perfect for this configuration of shelter, but like I said, it still worked out pretty well.
Hello Alexis Outdoors… I just started watching bush craft stuff a few weeks ago. I’m not sure I really understand the whole thing about the use of tarps. I mean yes I see they can be set up in a number of different configurations and that they can be pretty good at catching the reflected heat from fire. But I was thought of camping as a tent-based thing. Am I missing something?
@@JohnnyArtPavlou In winter, when temperatures drop way below zero, tents can be a hassle. They lock the moisture from your breath in and everything becomes moist and cold. If it is windy this won't a problem. If it isn't windy you don't really need the tent. 🙂
So, unless it is very windy I prefer a tarp for winter camping.

Maybe your best-ever video for fluency in presentation, filming, and technical content. RIGHT: we love to upgrade to useful and better quality gear that fits our personal aesthetic. I also love my Bushcraft Spain gear. I also like my Winnerwell products. They should be pleased with the way you demonstrated a different but especially appropriate way to use part of the stove as an off-the-ground firebox.

You remind me of me fifty years ago here in Canada I'm a senior now and this brings back some good memories of ice fishing yet we didn't have all the equipment that you young people have now well let's just say lifeless a little rougher LOL I think one of my favourite weekend Excursion was snowmobiling 20-mile run up into the mountains over seven feet of snow up to the lake to ice fish practically all day and we had no tent and we didn't build any fire on the ice. We had layers of clothing. Sometimes -40 f. The ice on the lake was at least 4 feet thick. After about 45 minutes we finally broke through the ice. It seemed likely kept clearing the ice from the every 10 minutes.
There would be beautiful whiskey Jax that would just sit up on your shoulder and eat out of your hand that's how hungry those poor birds for.
Enjoy your life while you're young. I certainly did.
I think I started slowing down in my fifties because I was no longer able to do what I wanted to do due to moving and a few car accidents which were not my fault.
If you can manage to keep moving eating good have a good routine in your life do the lot of praying have a good relationship with your creator eat healthy definitely stay away from junk food I think that's what's slowing me down to.
However it's a natural thing to get old but that wasn't God's will in the beginning.
I can tell that you surily enjoy your excursions.
I was brought up in the country and I worked like a boy my father was a very kind man and taught me how to work I'm not sit on my derriere. As there was always something to do. I think young people today should work a little harder instead of relying on the city as I really think they are going to shorten their life.
When I was 15 years old my father sharpening a push mower and I have to cut one acre grass that was about 1 ft High.
And when I was 15 years old it's snowed straight 4 days and by the time it stopped snowing I was told to shovel the driveway just wide enough for my father to give his pickup truck out of the yard. I started at 8 in the morning after I had my breakfast good old porridge, raisins, maple syrup and homemade peaches or applesauce along with some nice nuts. So after I had my breakfast my dad would always say to me okay I was just go you had your breakfast are all set up and now you'll be able to work.
So I'd work work until noon and come in when I got too cold and stood by the wood stove Meanwhile my dad would would see that the lunch was already on the stove I have a nice lunch and back outside again it wasn't until 11 tonight I had finished my job.
It was fun about my father got mad at me one time because I was outside in my bare feet in the snow lol.
Driveway wasn't that long I would say about a thousand feet. And by the time the night came he had a flood light that lit up the driveway.
Yes I remember working like a a man at an early age Ethan that's far back is 10 years old cutting wood tiling wood lifting happy rocks into a wheelbarrow.
There's so much to think about when I was younger it was a really good life.
We have an apple orchard cherry trees and everything that we put in the garden was all natural as my father didn't even use any pesticides or chemicals. When we lived along the oceanfront in British Columbia my dad would put seaweed that we had gathered in burlap bags from the shore and use it in our garden. Along with wood ashes from a fireplace and when we moved away from the ocean inland my father would use wood ashes and talk about beautiful gardens.
Nothing in the house was store-bought because we have this garden and I did most of the canning. At 15 years old I was making homemade bread every week putting it in the wood stove I used to can applesauce berries U name it. I remember my cousin came over and I gave him a piece of apple pie that I had made and I was outside for a good hour working and I come back and he ate the whole thing..
We always got fresh cream from the neighbours and your will suck life that a lot of people don't experience living in the city. I still have friends that live out in that area that they're still living off the land but because they're getting older some of them have to sell the property others stole are roughing it out even in their seventies.
I can't make bake like I used to I remember one time my grandfather came over for a visit and I made a dozen cream puffs out of organic cream did everything from scratch and these cream puffs are as big as your fist what did he do he ate them all! So I had to make another dozen the same day.LOL
So young lady take care of yourself and if you don't have to wear makeup don't wear it. You don't need to eat your skin and you don't need to have all the toxins from makeup into your body.
At the age of 30 I could bench-press 250lb without going to the gym. I remember walking into the gym when I moved to the city after my parents died when I was under the age of 21 and when I was 30 I was curious about weightlifting I didn't know too much about it all I knew is that I work hard and this guy comes up to me at the gym and says wow look at those muscles any grabs hold of my biceps then he says to me or can you bench press? And I looked at him and replied what and the world is bench pressing? It takes me over instructing me what to do and he kept asking me if I was okay after I reached 150 lb when I got to 250 lb I started shaking just a little and I knew I could do another 25 no problem but it wouldn't let me. I took it for granted that I was strong I took it for granted everybody lived a life like I did and that was true if you lived out in the country because my school friends lived on the farm or lived out my country and always had enough work to do but I didn't realize there was a big change in lifestyle in the big city to which I had moved to find work and make better life for myself as I was told to do.
Looking back life wasn't better life was harder living in the city because I was a country girl and you can't take the country out of someone who was brought up knowing nothing different.
Sure I knew what it was like to go to the city and do shopping but we didn't do that very often and it was always exciting to look around and see all the cool closing stores Etc but to actually live in the city what's a different story because gone is the life that you knew .
I just wanted to mention that I always grew up with dogs and cats but Mom was a bit of an eccentric and she decided to buy three monkeys from Mexico and she learnt the language so she could get them shipped to her. That's a totally different story growing up with pet monkeys and living along the ocean and how my mother trained the monkeys and how we would sneak them into the BC ferry and into hotel rooms and one time into the hospital it was a gas but anyways I won't bore you with that I've said a lot and my personal advice to you is never to look back and always move forward Jesus said that each day has its own anxieties but to just enjoy each day and you can't bring back everything it's like driving a vehicle you look in the rearview mirror once in awhile to check the traffic Etc but if you kept looking in the rearview mirror you would smash your vehicle and it's like life you want to focus ahead and it's a natural thing to look back but direct your life forward and have a goal and it's not all about money the trip and the journey that you are on to carry with you long-lasting good friends but if you move too much you're going to be like a tree but never has your roots in the ground. Sure it's nice to see the world when you're young but always have a home base to come back to. Anyways best of wishes love from Canada
