  • Getting a computer network cabling job without experience can be challenging, but there are steps you can take to increase your chances of success:
    Get certified: Pursue industry certifications like CompTIA Network+ or Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT) to demonstrate your knowledge and interest in the field.
    Look for entry-level positions: Focus on finding entry-level cabling technician jobs or apprenticeships. Be prepared to start with lower pay or a part-time position to gain experience.
    Volunteer or intern: Offer to volunteer or intern at a local business or organization to gain hands-on experience and develop networking opportunities.
    Build a network: Attend industry events, job fairs, and networking events to meet professionals in the field, ask for advice, and learn about job opportunities.
    Create a strong resume: Emphasize any relevant coursework, certifications, or projects, and highlight transferable skills such as attention to detail, problem-solving, and communication.
    Be eager to learn: Show enthusiasm and a willingness to learn and work hard. This can make up for lack of experience in some cases.
    Remember, getting a job in any field can take time and persistence, so keep a positive attitude and keep pushing forward.

    As a 1099 they aren't holding your taxes including unemployment or insurances so not only do you lose out with no benefits you are required to pay self employment taxes. If you do go 1099 you need to compensate for less benefits and more liability so working at the same hourly rate or even a few dollars above that of a W2 worker is cheating yourself.
    Being a subcontractor, you had better carry some type of liability insurance for jobsite mishaps and also commercial auto insurance since now you are a business entity. I would also highly recommend you incorporate your business so if for some reason you get sued they can't come after your personal assets. Wear & tear on vehicle, cost of vehicle, fuel, tools, PPE and anything else needed for work. Yes you may be able to write some of these items while reporting your taxes, you still need to carry the burden of said costs in addition to saving money to file since they are not holding any taxes back from pay. Oh yeah, you probably would do better if you hired a reputable book keeper since they may assist you with write-offs and are cheaper than a CPA or professional accountant. Slippery slope for a non-business minded person & of coarse a GREAT deal for a business owner since it removes a lot of the overhead and financial responsibility from them and transfer such onto YOU. This is why you need to get compensated for a 1099 position better than if you were to work as a W2 employee.

      Yeah, where I live I know people who run cleaning businesses cleaning toilets and floors. They all price their jobs so they make pull in about 50 dollars an hour. 45 minimum. Not much skill required. To pull in 15 an hour as a contractor doing any type of business is getting ripped off. Period.

      You are correct ! You need to incorporate, get commercial insurance, and keep tract of income. However you only need to pay tax on leftover income. No tax on tools, gas, truck/car, warehouse, computers, computer software and insurance that you use for business'. and other business expenses. There are additional write-offs for real-estate. You my not even owe taxes. Each state has their own laws check with an tax / business attorney. Thanks for watching and please subscribe!!

    Appreciate your video, great info. As an employer you can hire a 1099 individual, however they have to have their own insurance and in order to be insured, they have to have a C7 license. It could get complicated to do this in California.

      I agree, Target hires staff at $13/hour without any experience required. And that's not even a specialized field. But it's moot. The point here is: Do you want to be a cabler but have no experience? Yes? Then be as cheap as possible until you know what you're doing. Jim's right; if you're inexperienced and want a company to pay to train you, you're gonna have to make up for it by being as inexpensive as possible at the start. You can end up arguing for more at a different company later when you actually have the experience, but a noob just isn't worth $24/hr if they don't know jack. You work your way up. If you don't have experience and you don't want to work your way up to higher pay, find a different field; tough shit. You're competing with greybeards and motivated kids/young adults that want it bad enough to sell themselves short.

    I’m not expecting to get a lot of money out of this job but rather the experience because it will help me down the road. I want to become a Network Engineer or Architect and I believe this is a great place to start.

    My boss now is going through the exact stress you described, except I’m doing everything I can to lighten the load or get the job done. I can’t help he won’t hire the right kind of employees or people who are skilled or fast as I am. But instead of seeing these issues he takes his stress out on his employees so I just can’t deal with that anymore. I’m 20 and very fast and experienced in this field. I’d really like some advice on how to get out on my own and start small jobs to finally become my own business. Is there any advice you can provide to help? What I should need?

    Where can you find these 1099 contract jobs?

    • @CableSupply
      @CableSupply  5 років тому +6

      There is a couple of ways to find entry level cabling jobs. Check out the internet for companies that cable other companies in your local area and then call the hiring manager and offer your services. You can also check with Microsoft Partners or Cisco partners in the area who may need cabling employee or may know the companies that are out there cabling buildings.

    Why not an aluminium latter?

    • @CableSupply
      @CableSupply  5 років тому +5

      Aluminum ladders are unsafe. They conduct electricity. Wooden ladders fall apart. I believe there is a OSHA law against aluminum ladders.
