WHY I QUIT EMIRATES - PREGNANCY EDITION
Hello everyone! After many questions asking why I quit Emirates airline and how I managed the leaving process being pregnant etc I thought I would be best to share my story in a video and hopefully explain it all to you!
I just want to add that there were many parts of being Emirates Cabin Crew that I loved and I do still think the job and company can offer you a lot however, the lifestyle just wasn't for me and I am so happy to be back home with my loved ones!
Hope everyone is well and thank you for watching! xx
Dont know how I just randomly came across this video but as an Ayrshire lass living in Germany for the last 5 years its bloody lovely to hear your accent and chat!
lauren hazlett how do you find living in Germany?
its so important to check the benefits a company offers before you join. Often when we go for job interviews we are too focussed on being liked by the company and forget to ask ourselves if we like the company ourselves and whether it will improve your life or make it worse. Its a 2 way relationship and we spend a lot of our waking life at work. I joined an american company in london and it was so horrible. they see maternity as a nuisance. they openly choose candidates based on likelihood of that person falling pregnant!
AichaBlueSky in America it's illegal to discriminate against a candidate based on race, sex, anything. They even have to have a certain number of candidates to create diversity. If you are discriminated against for being pregnant or even a fertile woman they would get a huge lawsuit.
mari upton Oh that's good to hear! May be it was just my company who was doing it. I got pregnant 6 months after joining and they didnt take the news too well. I was even asked if it was necessary for me to go to antenatal appointments and classes. After my news, whenever they interviewed a female candidate they actually discussed the likelihood of that person needing maternity leave.
AichaBlueS
It seems so weird to me that someone reported the flight attendant. So awful.
+M Dvorakova I know it's horrible, it isn't the first time I've heard Doctors reporting crew sadly - so awful! Xx
it happens because of Dubai being a Muslim country
The doctor in the U.K. Wasn't under any obligation to report this. In fact it's not even legal to use patient's info without their permission
The doctor in the U.K. Wasn't under any obligation to report this. In fact it's not even legal to use patient's info without their permission
she said they went to a hospital in Dubai - i dont agree with this but my friend works for Emirates and she told me thats what they do
Salute to you!
Specially handling those terrible flights, clearing all dues and finishing up tedious work to leave for home in such state.
All the while not being able to share the happiness of pregnancy rather spying around..
Wish you a lovely, relaxed and a healthy time now! 🎈
+Mirza Yousuf aw thank you so much! It was such a drama but it's over! Thank goodness! Thank you for your kind words, means the world ❤
You’re so beautiful!! 😍
It’s terrible how emirates treat their employees.. you deserve better
Oh my gosh! Your last flights were crazy! You can tell your wee baby all about it ☺️
+Fluff Dj haha totally! Thank you for watching!
Congrats on your baby hun, I can’t believe the lengths you had to go to,. I work for a major airline and I’m not crew but when I was pregnant we had some crew grounded and they came to work in our office and funnily enough all Scottish, we had one from Glasgow and two from Edinburgh, amazing girls! X
Such a great attitude! I wish you all the best for your pregnancy and that only great things come your way! ..p.s. helloooo from South Africa! x
"Please don't leave hate comments" hahahahaha so adorable..
Eat Wander Play haha please no 🙌🏻
I'm shocked that it takes 3 years to qualify for paternity benefits with Emirates, that normal in the UAE........and that in 2017 you have to be married.... what? I've flown BC on Emirates and I love it
+ex-pat only qualify after 3 years if you're married sadly! Thanks for watching!
thank you for being so honest ,congratulations on your new journey of life ,may you and the baby stay happy and healthy, you're so pretty btw 😍😍
+Adeela Nasir thank you!
Haha I remember this flight v well. I'm happy for your pregnancy and was lovely flying with you. I'm now subscribed to your vids to see how it goes. Keep it up loving the vlogs and you will be missed here for sure 😘
+Adam Pulling hahaha adam!! Hey Hun! Thanks for watching darling, so happy to have met you ❤ x
I love your accent. It's beautiful and quite refreshing.
hey lauren! i enjoyed the video! girl, that was a good plan not telling the company abt ur pregnancy.... its hectic to just lose everything you have worked for.. and they seem quite strict on that subject too!
+Flo Soko hahaha oh Hun you've no idea the horror stories I've heard! Being sneaky is sometimes the only way! Thanks so much for watching xx
Lauren: At least you now know how lucky you are to be from UK and not Dubai!!!
@@genten777 The leader of Dubai has tortured and imprisoned two of his own daughters, one of them Sheika Latifa who wanted to seek asylum here in the US. The muslim men in charge of these countries like UAE, Saudi Arabia are monsters. Look what happens to journalists who criticise their leadership. They are looked up, or, like Khashoggi assasinated. I hate all Arab countries because of the way they treat women.
I am so glad to have come across your channel. Seeing you and listening to what you have gone through has been very insightful. You obviously have a fantastic work ethic. I hope you and your baby stay healthy through your pregnancy. (and your boyfriend). Emirates is losing a very valuable asset in their ranks. My best wishes for you and your new family.
This was good..i know cases where the doctor called the police without the patient being informed..and she was put to jail for a month.. it was even in the newspaper... this was in Abu Dhabi..so yeah..they re not human regarding this issue..
You seem so sweet and peaceful. Thank you for this video!!
+Samantha Minshall thank you darling xx
I am glad that you did not reveal about your pregnacy to Emirates. If you are not married and pregnant, you might probably get deported according to Islamic law. - I am a UAE resident.
Ellie Aye that's crazy I would be so scared to live there. Like how do people have normal relationships there?
ratherbenapping 10 The thing is not every country has the West's conception of a "normal relationship". Each country has a different culture, history and society. In that part of the world, normal relationships aren't seen as having kids out of wed lock, marriage is seen as something that matter adheres too. Simple. The reason why you can't imagine living in such a place is because your not used to it or haven't been bought up in such a way; however for many other people around the world who haven't been bought up in that way and have been bought in their own way, they would have difficulty imagining how for example people in your county live in these matters.
Rabia F as a catholic I can tell you I think it's insane mind your nose in other people's personal life. For Catholics marriages and children are a sacred thing too, but we don't deport anyone or ashame non married moms.
Ok Im not closed minded person. I get that however human urges are completely biologically normal. Societal norms are what suppress whats natural and healthy. That's not just an opinion it's biology.
Rabia F - you seem confused as to what Westerners actually realize and do not. Christian's also require sex after marriage. That said, it's another thing entirely to create laws based on religion. Particularly when there are so many different religions in the world and each human is unique.
Just came across this video! I gotta say you're a star! Hope your pregnancy went well. But geeze all the stress you've had and strength to keep that wonderful smile on your face!
Good luck, you did the right thing. Be healthy for you and your baby.
+Anna W absolutely! Thank you for watching!
Hiii love your wee sit down chit chats, omgosh sounds like a right struggle trying to hand in your notice so glad all went well tho hope your all doing good, can't believe that guy tried to punch you 😱 ☺☺
+Fraser Jackson haha it was some palava! So glad there's no more drama!
They should have known better its illigal in uae for unmarried woman to be with a man yet along pregnant . My sister in law was working in Dubai she hooked up with someone got pregnant and had to leave her work in Dubai to go back to her home country once she was showing to deliver baby. She can go to jail if they found out she’s unmarried and pregnant. Good thing you did not tell anyone
The Julian Clan and what about the guy? Go to jail too?
So sad
I've been thinking about solutions to this problem, it's probably the same with many other airlines, but just worse with Emirates. And I can see why it would be worse, bringing in foreigners is a scammy way to screw over young and naive people who will not be able to sue the company whenever things go wrong, or at least it would cost more money than they pay. And if you have no recourse, they can treat you very poorly and that is what happens to most.
You have no idea how pretty you are to my eyes ❤️ I love you!!!
+iLoveInfo thank you!
Your so pale, you look like a blood doner that couldn't say no
Very exciting story and we are all happy everything wend very well. Very exiciting ubelievable and what brave you wantt to share this story. At some organisations they might have the same policy regarding to pregnacy, thin about photomodels.
The very best to you Lauren! I always have had a soft corner in my heart for the Scotch! I am an admirer of its history and certainly of the people......they are very brave and they say it like it is!!! You have expressed yourself beautifully and it is a huge loss for Emirates to have lost a fine person like you!! You would do wonderfully where ever you go!!
+genten777 aw thank you! That's so kind of you to say, haha i do love my fellow Scots too ❤️ thank you for watching!
I would love to work for a company as great as emirates I just couldn't live in Dubai. People forget that Dubai is a Muslim city. I would be so scared if people found out I had sex or something.
ratherbenapping 10 lol people always have sex in dubai even if they not married...just not out in public
ratherbenapping 10 görl it's Dubai, people are crazy there, but in the underground :-D
Stefanie Rene it’s not that you’ll die or something .
Oh My Gosh Lauren!!! What a drama you had for those weeks!!! Glad you are back home with David and on to this exciting new chapter in your life. Thanks for sharing all this. Love your videos. xoxoxo
+Nancy Asplund thank you so much Nancy! Xx
That's tough. I'm glad you are with your partner now.

xoxoxoxoxoxox
Started watching you last year when we were getting ready for our trip to Italy via LAX>DXB>FCO in October. We had four Emirates flights, and my husband and I looked for you on every last one! There was one girl from Glasgow working J cabin, but she wasn't you, and I was so bummed. She was a lovely girl, and now I wonder if she was Mohammed's GF? Anyway, we were so thrilled to learn of your pregnancy, and we are still big fans! Looking forward to your future videos, and keeping up with you and your family. Hugs!
+Lady J aw bless you both! Thank
You so much for watching! I'll keep posting videos, it's fun to share with everyone! Hugs back and happy travelling!
I had a new boss when I was pregnant. I worked as a chamber maid at a hotel. I was 25 weeks pregnant with a massive belly still doing an awesome job despite my size and discomfort. I'd finish before the other girls and help them. It got to the point in my pregnancy my doctor wrote me a note that stated I could not bend down anymore since it was causing complications. My boss was so pissed off he told me I couldn't come back the next day. He told me I needed to get a note stating I could no longer work even though my doctor agreed that I could still work up until 39 weeks just without the constant bending and heavy lifting I did. I showed up the next day and told him my doctor said it was fine and I could still work. I got yelled at and he told me I had better get the note stating I could no longer work and suggested I even lie to get it. He even called my union rep and got her involved. Then it's safe to say I filled out the necessary paper work. Tried to go back after baby was born and my maternity leave was up. They fired me.
Cheeky A that's just awful you had to go through that, it's the strangest feeling when you realise your basic rights are being denied! Just enjoy your gorgeous baby and leave it in the past! Xxxx
Awww your smile is beautiful :). you were really courageous and also lucky that they didn't find you were pregnant.
good luck for everything. love you
+italiaveg90 thank you for subscribing! Xx
You are amazing...to have to cope with all that! All the best for the rest of your pregnancy.
+Ozboyz60 aw bless you, thank you!
Everything you are describing would be illegal in Canada.
Sienna Venezia absolutely!!!! 🇨🇦
I was about to post the exact same thing. we cannot even to imagine...
What would be? Sorry I'm Scottish😂
Emirates leaving formalities were non ending for me however I managed to come back to my beautiful home country Cyprus.THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE HOME dear Lauren. I am so happy for you you have decided to be back safe and most importantly FREE! Take care your angel x Congratulations
+Constantinos Christou aw well done to you too! It is some effort leaving, so happy to be away from it all! Thank you so much xx
Oh that sounded super stressful, it's nice that you can relax and re-tell it and laugh about it, love your videos, you're always so happy and smiley :) It'll definitely make for a funny story when your baby is older :)
looking forward to more videos from you! :)
+Linzi Sutcliffe thanks Linzi, hope you're well! X
There has to be confidentiality laws. On the other hand, their laws can be different. Check your contract and being in the air while pregnant, your baby gets a lot of radiation. The beginning is very delicate for pregnancy. There could be all sorts of reasons pregnancy was reported.
Hi Lauren Mckenzie, Can you tell me how many days in a month does a air hostess work?
It's really a different culture out here, too bad many people leave because it's not suiting them, goodluck to you and that was wise of you not to reveal your pregnancy despite how excited you must've been.
I don’t know how I feel about this but still it’s your opinion and your POV so I won’t judge you !! Btw your so pretty
Congratulations ,allllll the best 😚
Hi Lauren!
im seeing you from Colombia
+Fabian D'L' Rosa aw fantastic!! Hello! ❤️
I'm so sorry you had to go thru all of that
you look absolutelly glowing and beautiful
I am 12 and when I was 11 for the first time I travelled with emirates to Australia it was amazing no I am 12 I went again to Australia and flew with emirates I had so much fun on the plane even though can do nothing but ice entertainment is awesome and from then onwards I have always wanted to be in Embers cabin crew and I've even talk to some of the cabin crew and they gave me advice about how to come on but they said I have sold off you as yet and they wish me good luck hopefully I will get the job and I'm 21
I quit Qatar for that reason too.
AWESOME VLOG thanks for sharing it;s a lovely story HAPPY PREGNACY take care and be safe
You're beautiful and nice accent . Congrats to your baby. Thanks for sharing your story.
wow your amazing you didn't lose that pregnancy your very strong.
It's a shame you had to leave under those reasons. You didn't mention any positives about Emirates
omg that is so wrong on so many levels. I mean it is 2017 how can any company say it's their right to say you have to be married, and how can they take the money you worked for away from you and to get deported omg what a nightmare. The crazy stuff you went through hun there's no company in America that could do that omg they would be sued in every direction and loose Thank God. hugs girly and congrats on the baby!
1st trimester is really a hardtime... whoa cant imagine how ur flying and working...I was also suffering at work doing nightshifts and I can smell different things and ufffff the aircraft fumes. I was like dying haha
WHAT LIPSTICK ARE YOU WEARING HERE? SOOO PRETTY
You are so right! Glasgow girls are the best! 💕
Dear thank you for sharing. I need your advice. Is it better to work 12 months for emirates to gain experience and then leave when pregnant (and possibly return afterwards) or search another airline with less salary but they pay maternity leave? Thank you 😊
Oh my gosh!! These last flights were crazy!!
Crrazzyyyy! 😂
Hello, love your videos and congratulations on your baby! I have wanted to join emirates for a while now as Cabin Crew, but have been put off by some things I have read online about staff treatment (particularly about forced over time etc). Would be amazing if you could share some of the realities of the job! Would you have stayed in other circumstances? Thank you in advance x
+Lauren Shields hey lauren! Without falling pregnant my plan was to leave soon after anyway, there's fantastic benefits to working for Emirates, the travelling is fantastic, 90% off Emirates flights, nice pay and on layovers we stayed at 5 star hotels and got an allowance for our layover, the other side of the job is zero sleep pattern, multiple time zones, not enough rest between flights etc - once you get your roster for the month (after six months with the company) you can swap your flights and try and space out your flights more and bid for the layovers you want etc - the job is a definite lifestyle it isn't for all but if you can handle the long hours and homesickness doesn't affect you then it's a great way to see the world! X
God bless your family!
OMG!!! You are like an angel!!!! Please, what lipstick are you wearing? Looks gorgeous on you!
sugarplumfairy20101 you're so kind thankyou! It's NYX liquid suede, I've no idea the colour tho! Xx
Baby Daze thanks dear! I will check at the counter.
I found that sometimes the Arab male air hostess' were racist. They would serve the Arab people first. The women were always lovely though. Put me off the airline a bit though.
Oh dear God, what the heck..... love, love, love the accent.
So what happened with a baby ?
Testing for drugs doesnt show if youre pregnant ...
She’s gorgeous
Lauren: I wanted to ask you what became of Mohammad who impregnated the air hostess from Glasgow? It seems so cruel and unfair why she had to submit to the cruelty and unfairness of Emirates and yet Mohammad was still able to fly and not pay in any way for what was at least partially his doing as well. You are a wise lady for taking care of yourself and fleeing just in time from Dubai but it had to be scary. My very best to you and hope that you will still be linked with the airline industry in one form or another!! Is British Caledonian still in service? I believe it was out of Scotland. I flew it years ago.
What happens if you call in sick on your layover? Do you get replaced?
Not unless your the purser
Stmu31 there is a standby crew at all of the destinations
what if I am 158 cm but I can reach 212cm arm reach, will i be qualified in emirates? thank you
Do you have to wear high heels all the time during the flight?
my goodness what a journey. very brave not sure i could have coped with that and it would be incredibly difficult working for a muslim company.
+Nicki Blog hey Nicki! Thanks
For watching, it was tough but it's over! Phew ! Xx
It's not a Muslim company ( a Muslim company won't serve Alcohol ) , it's a company that has to acomadte the law of the country it's based in . .
Fa Saud hey thanks for commenting - just curious why you think it isn't a Muslim company?
Can you move out of Dubai but still work in Emirates?
Baby and flight attendant don't go well with one another, might be part time?
Thank you for sharing your story with us. I thought Qatar Airways has more strict rules regarding pregnancy than EK but it seems they're both the same I cant even imagine how hard your last few days had been but glad now you're safe with David :) I want to know is it safe working for Ek as a gay guy I know a lot of gays are working there but I just want to know form you as you've lived there.
+air kaka hey thanks for watching, it was tough so happy to be home! I honestly couldn't tell you truthfully how safe it was but I haven't heard anything saying it wasn't , I flew with many gay crew and even their boyfriends at the same time and they were even living together in Dubai etc and they loved it! X
Ah your from Glasgow. Awesome! I'm from Dundee. I feel sorry for you that you had to go through all of that just because your were pregnant. This is coming from a Muslim. Anyways keep striving girl!!
Hi sweety how are you ? I hope your fine congratulations soon you will have baby I am from london I always want to be cabin crew i just want know how much salary and i am 147 cm do you think will they accept me if i am not tall
Very interesting explanation
hey ,, i don't comment much, but i gotta say that you opted for the right thing. the baby would need your attention and you couldn't with the worries of the baby back and continue with the job even if its allowed in your circumstances. you have a good heart and you are full of life. All the best.
+icemetal999 there was never any question in my mind of staying on with the company, so happy to be home with my loved ones! Thank you for watching!
Your lipstick is from where? I love it.
+Jenny R NYX! Cheap and cheerful!
Wonder which nationality u r??? I can't hear what u r saying
Hi , good luck for baby, I seen you London to Dubai a380
+maya Vlogs thank you! X
Is it only me who felt uncomfortable to the camera
Are you related to Lorde ? ;p
LOL thats why I clicked XD
At 48, I study Criminal Justice (when I'm not taking too much time from college), and about to move to the Legal Studies program in preparation for Law School in California, and I'm so glad I watched this, which is educational, believe it or not. Can you tell us what airlines would actually cause to imprison a Flight Crew member if she were to become pregnant on that airline's watch? What would be the charges, and is there a court defense for such a "so called crime"?
JazzTruckin: Most of the Middle Eastern airlines will take severe measures against a female that gets pregnant out of wedlock.....that just is the Islamic way. There are strict punishments in store for a woman who gets pregnant out of wedlock in Sharia Law.
genten777 and you don't want to mess with sharia law, it's just barbaric.
what baby
Hiya! Did you manage to get your last pay? I hope everything worked out well x
+ilove pizza I did yes! 3 months after I left 😂 being put to good use now with buying all the baby gear! Thank you so much for watching xxx
Yessss! That makes me so happy for you. And it's going to good use :) Btw I really like ur accent ! I loved this video😇
Omggg what foundation do you use its flawless!
+Georgia McManus Nara tinted moisturiser - its my life!
+Georgia McManus nars* even!
Ahhh thank you so much for replying!! It looks ogrgeous on, and your makeup is perfect - you should deifnitely consider doing a routine xx
Funnily enough it happens in almost every job where people are sneaking around - either due to pregnancy or just finding another job. It's not respected to just be honest with your distaste or personal matters in the workforce anymore
is that Scotish accent?
Wow. No personal privacy. They deport pregnant women? What do they do with the women there? I guess put them in jail.
You and Cate Blanchett have similar cheekbones and mouth ☺️
is english is your first language why u speak in this way !!!
You have such a cute accent 😊
Hi, Lauren!
I was wondering if you could clarify something for me?
I understand that for crew to operate US flights, they need to be in receipt of a crew visa. What are the other visa requirements for other countries such as the UK, Australia, etc?
Also, in the UK, anyone operating within the airport needs to have an airside ID pass but do Emirates crew need to have this too or is their crew identification card from Emirates enough?
I can't find anything online regarding this.
Thanks in advance!
Low key looking like Micheal Jackson
So the boy was pregnant to I was confused
Why are you making your voice sound like there's broken glass in your throat? Just be yourself, boss. Affectations are for the weak.
WHERE ARE YOU FROM??? YOU HAVE VERY SWEET ACCENT)))
😆😆😆😆😆 you couldn't afford your own Emirates flight to home. It was so funny.
At least you don't get stoned to death.
