@@chigozieikuru2563 thanks for the info. From what I understand, during the course of your graduate program in educational psych, you will certainly be writing a lot. As in a whole lot. Typically, they would want to get a head start on the writing aspect while making sure they are considering candidates that are certainly comfortable with writing essays with ease. You will write essays for virtually every assignment and will sometimes have 2-3 essays due in one week. I know a friend who did something in education and it was similar. So, for your writing sample, if the school gave you a specific prompt, that is excellent. Simply write your essay in attempt to satisfy that prompt, making sure that is the best essay you have ever written. Otherwise, if they just requested for a writing sample without details, they are probably asking for samples of things you might have written in the past. You can choose to be candid and submit such samples or you can write a new essay on any topic you feel the Department or a potential advisor will be interested in. This is not your SOP, as this particular article will have a central theme around which it revolves. Pick a theme of your choice and go to town on it.
