Glad to see a new generation discovering one of my alltime favorite bands. This is from over 50 years ago and is still marvelous! I saw them in concert twice, way back then...
You mentioned you loved the drumming. That drummer that has been with the band since the mid 60's has just recently past away. Graeme Edge, a drummer and co-founder of The Moody Blues, has died. He was 80. Ray thomas, the Flutest a few years before that. We are all getting old. A fan since 1973 ( i was 18) and a 6 time MB concert goer and to this day they hold the number 1 spot of countless concerts I've been to by so many bands.Tom Petty,(8 times), the Who(2), Rolling Stones (2) , ELO , Jethro Tull, Frank Zappa, ect. ect. ect. This band of 5 Gentleman now 2 were the start of Progressive Rock
This particular Moody Blues song is easily among my top ten favorite songs, maybe even 5. I’m all over the place musically, Bauhaus’s All We Ever Wanted Was Everything is up there too.
I am so freaking excited. Moody Blues are one of my favorite all time bands. "Legend of a Mind" "I'm just a Singer" much more. Justin Hayward is so underrated a guitarist.
@@Free-flyBE I know, I know. 😉 I just don’t think I can listen to it one more time without my head exploding. So if they react to it, I’ll have to make a decision. Risk my head exploding or skip it. We’ll see which way I go.
This song is the lead-off song on the brilliant album "A Question Of Balance", which is my 2nd fave MB album. Their best album, however, is "To Our Children's Children's Children", so I'd love it if you'd review/react to the lead-off track from that album, called "Higher & Higher". The song is a tribute to the first manned landing on the moon, which had just happened months earlier.
The Moody Blues were very influential in Rock music. This is a great song! "Tuesday Afternoon" is another classic along with one of the greatest songs ever recorded "Nights In White Satin," which you should definitely react to, but the longer, album version, not the single version. Unless it includes the true ending, fans WILL be disappointed. ❤
A lot of Moody Blues albums just flow directly from one song into the next; this one crashes into "How Is It We Are Here." A Question of Balance and Days of Future Passed are both fantastic albums and worth listening to in their entirety. If you want a taste of the song flow in action, find "Procession" and "The Story in Your Eyes" as a pair. For more of the drummer going full speed ahead, "I'm Just a Singer in a Rock and Roll Band" is a great one.
Oh wow, I haven't heard this song for such a long time and yet it's so familiar! It's from 1970 and it's just wonderful, the way it starts off so fast then slows down - so beautiful, and then speeds up again, so loud. The Moody Blues were an amazing, creative band and Justin Hayward is a great singer. A couple of really good songs out of so many are Never Comes the Day and the classic Nights in White Satin - what a great title for a song! Once you've heard that song, you won't forget it! As I say, it's a classic, just like A Whiter Shade of Pale by Procol Harum that you recently reacted to. Both these incredible songs were released in 1967. Thanks so much for this reaction, guys, enjoyed it very much. It's so good hearing all these songs that I haven't heard for ages!
In the way back my group of friends would wait for the next Moody Blues album and then have a listening party to listen to the entire album a few times. They were great.
I grew up listening to this group & they are one of my favorites from the 60's-80's. They have had so many hit songs. Love their mix of rock with classical music. They have a sound like no other band. The Moody Blues' most successful singles include "Go Now", "Nights In White Satin", "Tuesday Afternoon", "Question", "Gemini Dream", "The Voice" & "Your Wildest Dreams". But all of their music is great. Many of their records are concept albums & meant to be listened to all at once.
This song was a favorite of mine. The Moody Blues always take you on a "trip" with their music, a blend of rock and classical music. They are considered early prog rock. We use to call it head music; their lyrics and musical arragements were always deeply moving and often profound. You should listen to the whole of their pioneering 1967 concept album, "Days of Future Passed", for a musical journey cumulating in their opus "Nights in White Satin". There's nothing like it. Thanks for reminding me again of this song and your observation of varied sounds of the 60s and 70s music was spot on.
I saw them in concert a few years back and Justin Haywood voice is still amazing After one song he got a 20 minute standing ovation I've been listening to the Moody Blues from the sixties
@@craigaust3306 You are correct Mike Pinder was the lead vocal in the song Question of Balance plus many more great Moody Blues songs, but in a lot of songs going forward Justin Haywood became more of the lead singer and was as good if not better, but hey we are splitting hairs as its all excellent
My older sister loved these guys. She was always ahead of the curve in music appreciation. These guys never put out a bad album----- and they put out a bundle. Great stuff.
The Moody Blues are so great. Their music is always complicated, profound and beautiful. I saw them live and it was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Love your channel🌺✌️
Guys! The Moodies…. At last. Can you imagine hearing this song on your first trip? How deep those lyrics embedded in my soul. This was such a hit for them too. One of their best, but they have plenty! 1. Most of their early albums (the first 7) have one song running seamlessly into the next with no silence in between. 2.Your best choice is to listen to studio versions before ever diving into live performances. From this album, A Question of Balance, you should check out It’s Up To You, Dawning Is the Day, and The Balance. Or check out earlier albums On The Threshold of a Dream and work your way up.
Thanks guys!!!!! Great reaction....I knew you would love them!!! Oh yes! They have a ton of great songs! The drummer Graeme Edge just died Nov 11 2021. Another member died in 2018, Ray Thomas. He also sang, played flute and saxophone. They were the first group to use an instrument called a mellotron. Mike Pinder played that. john Lodge on bass and of course Justin Hayward, amazing vocalist and guitar player. They were creative and innovative and unique. Appreciated your reaction! 🥰
There has never been a band like the Moody Blues. You can never say oh they sound like this band or the other, they were completely unique. And this one is one of my favorites of theirs. Good look bros!
They are also a great live band that sometimes used an orchestra. They are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as well. If going live, post 1990 are the better renditions of their songs. They are a polished band that has many sounds and are always tremendous in melody, poetry and meaning and are superb singers and musicians. Go deeper with them and you will not be disappointed.
I know that many people here have recommended songs like "nights in white satin" or "tuesday afternoon" but I highly recommend that you react to the entire Days of Future Passed album. It is a beautiful experience and you will not regret it.
I have a better appreciation of this group since watching you. I turned the volume up and really listened to the words. Always loved this song but love it even more now. Thanks to you. 😃
Growing up with this music, I can tell you that I, and many other people, memorized all the lyrics of all the songs of most of the prog bands from the late 60s and early 70s, because the music, and lyrics, were timeless, profound, beautiful, weird. And memorizing poetry is part of being human, like birds singing. Music reflects the time, and the time reflects the music back. Those were profound, beautiful and weird, but not timeless, times. Except for those who chose to go timeless; become unstuck in time. This unstuck the music, which allowed it to grow wings and soar to new heights. They actually played this song on the radio. One of the best things to ever make it to popular radio. Madloba. Peace.
Well done lads. I am always impressed when people who's mother tongue is not English express themselves so well in my language. I worked in Azerbaijan for 14 years and only learned a few sentences of thir language. We are lazy. You guys are awsesome. GREAT review of the Moody Blues a group I loved as a teenager MANY MANY years ago. Thankyou Gentlemen
Moody Blues are so good, even in their older age, they never missed a beat. I watched them in a concert doing music they did 20 years earlier, just fantastic, it blew my mind, "Nights In White Satin" "I'm Just A Singer In A Rock And Roll Band" and "For My Lady", it was like going back in time. You should really look into more of their music, studio or live, it doesn't matter, it'll be great! I really loved watching this reaction, thanks!
The key Moody Blues listen is a full album reaction to Days of Future Past, which includes the timeless hits "Nights in White Satin" and "Tuesday Afternoon". It's a concept album that uses one week as an analogy for life... parallel in some ways to Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon".
I saw the Moody Blues 27 times in my life and now lately just seeing Justin Hayward and John Lodge by themselves. Sadly most of the band has gone on to Rock and Roll heaven except for Michael Pinder who left after the Octive album. Thanks guys for being one of the best bands ever.❤️❤️
Moody's started out as a typical British Invasion blues band, similar to the Rolling Stones and Yardbirds, etc... After their second album, they were like "Screw this, we are not much of a blues band" and after that, they got into progressive rock and experimental rock. Awesome band.
Hi guys - For my 14th birthday in 1970 I asked for an album by The Moody Blues called - "For Your Children's Children's Children" It was the very beginning of my record collection. My very first vinyl album. Since then I have bought every Moody Blues album. The album "Question of Balance" is not good streamed. Tracks have an abrupt end ... because every track segues into the next, and that's how it's meant to be heard. The track "Question" was also released as a single with a longer acoustic guitar intro without the orchestra booms which only appear at the end. I actually prefer this version to the album version. I also still have the single on 7" vinyl when it first came out. Their albums are amazing with Justin Hayward & John Lodge as the main songwriters & Justin Hayward's main vocals are wonderful. He sang "Forever Autumn" as a solo artist, which appears on the album "Jeff Waynes - War Of The Worlds" [ The original version - not the crap remake ] If you also want some utterly beautiful heart breaking songs, then try " Justin Hayward & John Lodge - Blue Jays " - Tracks like, "I Dreamed Last Night" & "This Morning" with full orchestra that will break your heart, just as much as the vocals...You got a very large rabbit hole to discover. I've loved them for over 50 years. Enjoy !
The gorgeous voice, beautiful lyrics and wonderful melodies of the one and only Justin Hayward together with the exceptional musicality of the other members of the band. Priceless.
Had the pleasure of seeing Chicago and the Moody Blues on the same bill, same night and same stage about 40 years ago, all I can say is that it was almost spiritual, at the end both bands came out on stage and jammed for a couple of songs together
"The Moody Blues - I'm Just A Singer (In A Rock and Roll Band)" and "Moody Blues - Nights and White Satin" and "Moody Blues - Tuesday Afternoon (1970)" and here's another artist that I don't think you have listened too. "John Prine - Sam Stone" he has an extensive collection that is definitely worth a listen. Thanks guys great reaction
Hello! Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!!! I'm 59 years old, and I love your channel and your reactions to the music that I grew up with. I would HIGHLY suggest that you listen to The Moody Blues "Nights in White Satin". There is a GREAT live version done in 2000 at the Royal Albert Hall. I suggest this, because you can see that even as they aged, they were still amazing musicians, and also because Justin Hayward still had an incredible voice as he aged. And I have always LOVED the fact that this band entwined classical music elements within their music. Please listen to more of their music, not because I love it, but because I think you will love it too. Take Care and Best wishes!
Wow, one of the most inventive bands. Love them since their first hit "Go now" (1965). I recommend "Melancholy man", "Don't need a reindeer", "Tuesday afternoon", "Isn't life strange", "Ride my see saw", "Blue guitar", "Blue world", "Have you heard", "Lost in a lost world", "The story in your eyes", and so many others gems.
I really love The Moodies and along with Queen they are still one of my all time favourite bands. Was so lucky to see them live three times and they were amazing each time .
this song was actually 2 unfinished songs written by Justin Hayward both written in the same key so they ended up combining them into the 1 song Question
The Moodies were a great band. their Threshold Of A Dream was the first album I bought, and I still think it was their best. They developed collaboration with orchestras. Justin Hayward was their amazing main vocalist, listen to Nights In White Satin. who also did some excellent solo work like Forever Autumn on Jeff Waynes War Of The Worlds. Keep Reacting!
Hi Guys, so glad you've discovered the Moody Blues, they originated as a Merseyside rock band from Birmingham England in 1964 and had a big hit with the song "Go Now" the same year. Following the departure of lead singer/guitarist Denny Lane in 1966 (who later joined Paul McCartney and Wings in 1971) they recruited singer/songwriter/guitarist Justin Hayward and their direction changed completely to a more progressive one (before Progressive Rock was even a known genre). They recorded the ground breaking album "Days of Future passed" with orchestra in 1967 which contained their all time classic "Nights in White Satin" written By Justin Hayward. I remember hearing it on the radio in 1968 as an 8 year old kid and being completely mesmerized and transported to a divine state of consciousness, 53 years later it still has the same effect. The following live recording from the magnificent "Hall of Fame, Live at the Royal Albert Hall" concert DVD of 2000 with full orchestra is phenomenal and arguably their best recorded live performance ua-cam.com/video/MjUqfRrWwcM/v-deo.html I hope you enjoy it! Cheers
This was so advanced when it came out in all aspects and is still a brilliant song, the single version does fade out but this LP version fades into another song as on many MB albums. You will hear more great tracks on this LP and others as they one of the great British bands and a unique creative force. But guys you still haven't heard the beautiful twin-guitar of 'The King Will Come from the LP 'Argus' by Wishone Ash - yet another great Brit rock band!
Classic Moodies I recommend: The Actor, Gypsy, And The Tide Rushes In, Melancholy Man, One More Time To Live, You Can Never Go Home, Lost In A Lost World, Isn’t Life Strange, When You’re A Free Man, Driftwood, Nervous, It’s Cold Outside Of Your Heart, Words You Say.
Not bad for a song that's about 50 years old. The MB helped pioneer progressive rock and they were the band that introduced philosophy in rock music. And it was Mike Pinder (keyboards) that started using the mellotron with all its weird effects, and told the Beatles about it. Then they used it on the Sgt. Pepper's album. In so many of the MB songs, the transitions and other instrumentation are almost other-wordly. And as for the lyric, they make you think about yourself and life. It's a rare, rare quality to be able to combine the two. The Moody Blues were truly their own genre of music. There was nothing quite like them then, or now.
I totally agree. You can hear the early prog transitions and the story/journey of their compositions. They influenced many prog rock and even prog metal bands decades later.l
The Moodies have SO much good music! I could listen to their "core 7", each album from beginning to end and all 7 albums. One song I haven't heard mentioned that I really like is Legend of a Mind! I'd like to see a reaction to that especially if the back story is known!
Nice reaction! Right before the pandemic I saw the lead singer of Moody Blues, Justin Hayward, perform in San Diego. He sang this and his voice is STILL perfection.
My favorite group on a desert island albums, all their albums. Sometimes they use two drummers,. Especially as they got older. I have seen them every time they toured indoors, outdoors, cruise ships. They are great song writers, excellent musicians, usually have symphony with them, highest standards of recording. Many songs were like this asking questions or reflecting of Life. Excellent.
Gentlemen. I have just discovered your website. It says that you are from "Georgia." Judging by your accents, I'm thinking it's the "Georgia" in the USA. That's cool--actually, even cooler. I'm an old rocker and I'm excited to see our American music reaching out across our borders and making our rock and roll family even bigger. I've been a rocker for around fifty years, guys, and I appreciate it when young people are out there digging the music I play and grew up with. Rock on, brothers!
Grew up with Moody Blues thanks to my father. They are a part of our family. Every song has a family-memoriy.

A new group every week in 70tys...love love love the Moody Blues...they started in the 60tys....you will love Nights in White Stain..
this was actually 2 songs combined both in the key of C. they are my favorite band seen them many times. my first concert dec 7 78
The MB's have a huge number of great songs. Keep going, keep digging👍🎼🎵🎶
Nights In White Satin!!!!
Please do Nights in White Satin also by the Moody Blues! The extended version. Make sure it’s the extended version.
My husbands uncle was an original MB fan in the 60s and I remember him telling me they were a band way ahead of their time. So true.
LOVE THIS SONG!!!!❤❤ Thanks for Reacting!!!
The name of the album is A Question of Balance, and you have heard The Question...now take a minute and listen to The Balance.....sweet!
The drummer, Graeme Edge, just passed away here in December at 80 years old.
Awesome job. RIP Graeme Edge (drummer)
The Moody Blues are awesome all around fellas…
Welcome aboard ❤
Incredible gorgeous song. Thanks for doing this guys. You can always be counted on to have an appropriate reaction.
My favorite track from these guys is The Story In Your Eyes. Great reaction, guys, as always.
Exquisite songwriting and musicianship within the pop genre. In the Pantheon for sure.
They considered themselves everybody's fourth favorite band.
The drummer graeme edge sadly died a few weeks ago, legendary band, so many classics!
Oh my god this takes me back to my bedroom, with friends dressing up& dancing , oh happy days ❤
I grew up listening to this music. This is absolutely my favourite Moody song, and they had many.
Love your reaction.
Had Seen the Moodies 14 times or so and never been disapointed. They are way ahead of time with there music.
Love all of their albums
Graeme Edge was the drummer. Tragically he was taken from us due to cancer last month. Great talent, great loss.
Out and in…..off the to our children’s children’s children album.
The godfathers of Prog, one of the first bands to make proper use of the Mellotron.
I totally agree. You can hear the early prog transitions and the story/journey of their compositions. They influenced many prog rock and even prog metal bands decades later.l
Great classic jam by the Moodys!💙💙💙
Right!!!!!

The Moodies have SO much good music! I could listen to their "core 7", each album from beginning to end and all 7 albums. One song I haven't heard mentioned that I really like is Legend of a Mind! I'd like to see a reaction to that especially if the back story is known!
One of the greatest bands to grace this earth.
Nice reaction! Right before the pandemic I saw the lead singer of Moody Blues, Justin Hayward, perform in San Diego. He sang this and his voice is STILL perfection.
That was awesome. Haven't heard this in decades and it gave me chills the entire time. Thanks for the buzz Bros!
My favorite group on a desert island albums, all their albums. Sometimes they use two drummers,. Especially as they got older. I have seen them every time they toured indoors, outdoors, cruise ships. They are great song writers, excellent musicians, usually have symphony with them, highest standards of recording. Many songs were like this asking questions or reflecting of
Life. Excellent.
