It's only $100 more than the Series X Special edition. So in that regard I guess it's not that bad haha; Just puts in perspective how expensive the newest version of the consoles are.
They didn't even do a side by side in the showcase. I suspect because the graphical changes aren't all *that* massive that they show up well in video. I'm sure it will feel like a difference with performance modes and being able to do them without as big of a sacrifice to quality, but this thing is going to be stupidly expensive where I live. As a non-PS5 owner this doesn't make me want to buy a Pro. At best it convinces me that I want to have a look for deals on the older models instead.
Wow, that looks amazing! Those are all the games I played on PS5, looking like they played on PS5! I can't wait to spend $700 to get the same games looking how they looked!
I think we have the "Big 3 Problems" with the PS5 Pro: 1. Sony made a big deal about the graphical upgrades for the PS5 Pro in their presentation, but since they’re already releasing games on PC, these upgrades don’t excite me as a PC user who also owns the original PS5. My PC already provides the same, if not better, graphical improvements, so there’s no reason for me to get excited about what the PS5 Pro offers in that regard. 2. AI Upscaling was hyped way too much in their promotional video. Sure, it's a nice feature to have, but it's not a game-changer. Most people prefer native rendering, as AI Upscaling often adds latency and can introduce artifacts. Promoting it as a key reason to upgrade feels overblown. 3. Instead of focusing on new games to showcase the console’s power, they removed features like the disk drive and stand (seriously!) and pushed out a refresh that costs $700. As a PC gamer first, I admit my bias, but I do enjoy my PS5. I was hoping for a meaningful console refresh, but the reality is that cross-platform games will still have to support the lowest common denominator, which is the Xbox Series S. Even with Sony exclusives, the base PS5 is still going to be the benchmark, so the PS5 Pro’s technological advancements will be limited by the need to ensure compatibility with the standard PS5. It’s a problem we always face as consoles age-we hope for a leap in base hardware to boost overall fidelity, but this generation is held back.
Devs already have to do a tremendous amount of work to ensure optimal performance across many different systems (PS4, PS5, now the PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X & S, Switch, PC, etc.) These upgrades will only be used in fringe cases, only some AAA games.
I think I'll stay with my current PS5 for the time being, for sure. I'll be interested to see how GTA 6 utilize the Pro and that could sway me but maybe I'll just wait for the next generation.
Just to be clear, you can get a Disc Version PS5 (with stand) for $500 on PS Direct. To get the same package with the Pro, you are looking at $810. It its performance and 2tb of storage a $310 value increase?
$700 for a very incremental jump. The PS5 hardware isn’t even being fully utilized, and they’re already pushing a pro. Don’t think this is necessary for anyone who already has a PS5.
PS4 Pro was 400€, so 25% more than the base model AND it had a disc drive, so everyone could play the games they already owned. The Digital Edition of the PS5 is already 400€. 800€ is fucking nuts. That's a 100% price increase.
700$, no new games coming with pro, accessories that should of been including in the price they are sold separately. Sony keep getting away with this shit seriously. I have a ps5 but also bought last year a pc with 4090, 32 gb and I'm so glad I did. I'm not paying 700£ for some minors improvements.
That’s cool. Back to the Nintendo toaster and Zelda TotK for me as the game looks like something from 3 generations ago but its gameplay is S tier (although I own a regular PS5 and a decent PC).
Also upgraded: -- 2 TB SSD -- WiFi 7 Same $80 optical drive for Slim can be added. Doesn't make the price easier to swallow, but they should have included this info in the video.
it's disappointing to hear that the main concern of developers taking away from this generation has been the need for increased graphical fidelity. There are so many more interesting and worthwhile avenues to explore that would make it a more compelling product. Backward compatibility, portability, combining graphical fidelity with performance mode (that one was addressed, obviously), cooling systems and sound, maximizing hardware creatively, backwards compatibility (again, come on!)....I was never going to realistically buy a PS5PRO as I didn't opt for the PS4PRO..but man this sure made the choice easy
I’ll not be getting it cos I have a 5 already but I agree with Blood that getting away from screen space reflections is a win and a good sign for PS6 (seriously who thought using SSR for lakes and large floors ever made sense with its issues)
The price is what it is because the regular version still exists and they wish they'd launched that version at a higher price since it was sold out for so long anyway. So instead of a price cut on the regular version and the upgraded version coming in at around the launch price they just keep the price and launch the version for crazy people with more money than sense will probably sell out anyway. They think that if you don't have the money you will probably be happy with the "PS5 Amateur"
Comes out to like $800 with a disc drive. The PS4 Pro didn't seem like a bad deal. You also had the price cut to the base console around that time as well. Not sure if the PS5 Pro will do the same numbers at that price point. Especially outside of US. It's kind of a hard sell when the games you are showing off aren't new titles. Ghost of Tsushima and TLOU Pt II are bangers, but they came out years ago. Showing off PS4 first party titles to sell your premium current gen console is not a good look.
700 dollars is cheap compared to the other regions. Should be something like 650 euros, 550 pounds and 110 000 yen to be equal to the American price. Why such a big difference?
The price is insane and I won't be buying one, but I think they'll be alright promising 60fps because of Microsoft - because of the Series S and it needing to have a kind of parity with Series X, it likely means game development and fidelity isn't going to go too far beyond the realms of the PS5 Pro making 60fps. Unless, of course, developers don't bother optimising. The CPU could also be an issue, but PSSR and faster memory could alleviate some of that. I think if they can promise GTA 6 at a relatively solid 60fps, then a lot of people will still find a way to buy one.
Yeah main thing deciding if I get this in the future is, will GTA6 run at 60fps on base ps5? I imagine if most games still have the options for performance or fidelity most like me wont bite
It is very different nowadays. During ps4 pro, not so many console games were better optimized in PC, but now? So many games are better optimized in PC than consoles. Unless Sony showed PS5 pro games or more of their 1st party games, the $800 PS5 pro is not a very attractive option right now.
I barely even played with my actual PS5... I bought it in 2021 for FF7 Remake DLC... since then, I played a total of 21 games on it (and this number includes a few demos and free games)... from a total 212 games that I played in total (from start to finish) since I got it (yes I do have a website with every games I play in order) ;)

700$ is not worth it. Not in the slightest. It's more expensive than what they wanted the PS3 to originally cost at 600$
Not far off. $600 for the PS3 in 2006 would be costing $935 today.
Europe 💀
Much live to you veterans 🙏
@10:36 Huber joked about the price, but little did he know he actually got it spot on. Pro + disc drive + stand will actually cost more than that.
Wow, that looks amazing! Those are all the games I played on PS5, looking like they played on PS5! I can't wait to spend $700 to get the same games looking how they looked!
I think we have the "Big 3 Problems" with the PS5 Pro:
I'll be interested to see how GTA 6 utilize the Pro and that could sway me but maybe I'll just wait for the next generation.
they really wanted to kill the $599 USD meme huh...
I'm good with my base model. If I have to see more details on leaves, i think I'll just go outside for now.
....count me in for ps6 though 😉
If my Day 1 console survives until PS6, that is what I'll fork out for.
The question is can it play FF7 Rebirth on graphics mode with 60FPS
PS4 Pro was 400€, so 25% more than the base model AND it had a disc drive, so everyone could play the games they already owned. The Digital Edition of the PS5 is already 400€. 800€ is fucking nuts. That's a 100% price increase.
I've never bought a "pro" version of a Playstation, and this is definitely not going to change that
Didn’t know Dana Carvey worked for PS
At that point, get a PC. Free online, biggest library, and it's a god damn full fledged machine that you can do whatever you want on.
With them being at the top right now I doubt they care
all hope lies on that PSSR to make this a solid 60 performer through its lifetime
Is this a hint toward the PS6 price?
I won’t be getting this. I hope this is like Concord and no one buys it to send Sony a message.
The next PlayStation I'll buy is the one that can locally run my legacy games (PS1-PS3 included).
Remember during that E3 presentation when Sony did a mic drop and said $299 for the PS2? 😅
Mark Cerny looks like my Tía Conchita.
Also upgraded:
-- 2 TB SSD
-- WiFi 7
Same $80 optical drive for Slim can be added.
Doesn't make the price easier to swallow, but they should have included this info in the video.
So.. $800 for a pro with a disc drive that can stand vertically. Jesus.
Fuck that thank goodness I've been saving up for the ps6 lol.
700$ is a lot, also here in México, they up the cost, so here it would cost like 17,000 pesos which is like 850 dollars... and no disk drive!!!
it's disappointing to hear that the main concern of developers taking away from this generation has been the need for increased graphical fidelity.
That price reveal is Sony's version of Apple revealing the $1,000 monitor stand.
🤣🤣🤣
The price is what it is because the regular version still exists and they wish they'd launched that version at a higher price since it was sold out for so long anyway. So instead of a price cut on the regular version and the upgraded version coming in at around the launch price they just keep the price and launch the version for crazy people with more money than sense will probably sell out anyway. They think that if you don't have the money you will probably be happy with the "PS5 Amateur"
4k 60fps
this could have been an email
I can barely tell the difference and they are zooming in. I don’t zoom in when i play games. I’ll keep my ps5.
The BIG 3:
- high price
- no disc drive incuded
- no vertical stand included
$800 Canadian everyone. No thanks.
800 euro's. No stand nondisc drive? No thanks 😂 Sony threw a flashbang at the end and ran away lol
959 canadian dude not 800
$1100+ CAD with taxes
Yeah main thing deciding if I get this in the future is, will GTA6 run at 60fps on base ps5? I imagine if most games still have the options for performance or fidelity most like me wont bite
Beyond outrageous
For that price I'm gonna buy a Ferrari - and I don't mean in-game...
In Europe that thing is 100 bucks more expensive by default. Huh??
Huber had a heart attack😂
This is worse the the $599 USD moment for the Grillstation3 reveal.
Xbox Next coming in 2026 @ 600
