Watch this a learn how I address 1 of the 5 things I dislike about the Street Glide CVO. This will also apply to any M8 with the 117 engine and a heavy breather including the ST models and the CVOs. Watch until the end to see the final result of the fix. Thanks for watching and if you have not yet subscribed, I would be honored if you would consider doing so. Ride safe and enjoy the ride. Rick

I test rode a 2023 Street Glide ST, and that heavy breather was right on my chin. I purchased the bike, and before I picked it up I swapped out that snorkel for a HD ventilator. Looks great and feels excellent.
Thanks Tony for sharing your experience. The heavy breather really bothered me as well. I'm thinking about a Street Glide ST as well and the one thing that holds me back from making the buy is the heavy breather. If you are a subscriber already thank you. If you haven't yet subscribed I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so. Thanks for the support and ride safe. ✌️👊👍
Thanks Eric. Now that I have it switched I feel much better on the bike. Better comfort and I feel much more confident when braking not that there is nothing blocking the rear pedal. Thanks for watching and ride safe. 👊👍🇺🇸
Yes. I changed the old style out on my 2019 Road King Special last winter to the screamin eagle ventilator. It looked nice. Thanks for watching and ride safe. 👍👊🇺🇸
Life is short, but unfortunately I live in Idaho and there's tons of snow and ice. This state blows for riding. Freezing or frying. Anyways, excellent video. Amazing how much better an M8 engine looks as compared to an Indian 116. Thanks again.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate your kind words and support. If you are already a subscriber to the channel...thank you. If you haven't yet subscribed to the channel I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so. Thanks for your support and ride safe. ✌️👍👊
Thanks for watching and commenting. It was really not a good design from my perspective. Plus I really didn't feel safe as it was difficult to get my foot easily to the brake pedal. I appreciate your support...Ride safe and peace ✌️ 👊👍🇺🇸
Thank god mine came with the ventilator kit and I first noticed that when I sat on a new ST. I told the salesman I would probably change that first right away.
Thanks for watching and commenting. You could do this to your break out as well. I would suggest checking the part numbers to ensure proper fitment. I also did a similar project on my 2023 Street Glide ST by changing the stock breather to the HD ventilator extreme. I did a full video on that install as well. If you are already a subscriber to the channel...thank you. If you haven't yet subscribed to the channel I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so. Thanks for your support and ride safe. ✌️👊👍
For just 2,000 miles there sure was a lot of oil inside the Heavy Breather Air Cleaner. I'd suggest to properly ventilate the crankcase by installing the Trask M8 Checkvent (transmission top plate cover) available in Chrome or Gloss Black (it's also metal instead of the OE plastic piece)...or...the Fueling Billet Vented Oil Dip Stick. Your engine will run better (not longer sucking hot oily mist into the engine) and most if not all of the oil accumulation in the air cleaner is significantly reduced or 99+% reduced. This also helps the pistons to stay cleaner.
Thanks Tom for the suggestion. I've definitely thought about a vented oiled dip stick. I appreciate you watching and commenting. Hopefully this will help others as well. Ride safe and enjoy the ride. 👊👍🇺🇸
Great video Rick. Yes the stock air cleaner is very annoying. I didn't replace mine but I did go with the extended rear brake lever. Made a big improvement too. Your videos are very interesting and lots of great information. Stuart.
Great video! I made the same switch on mine a while ago before going with stage 2 (different air cleaner) and at the time I had to go get the screws because like you said, the originals didn’t fit and my kit didn’t come with the breather tubes.
Thanks for watching. Yes I had to piece this one together to keep the CVO look. I actually got the breather bolts on EBAY. Ride safe and enjoy the ride. 👍👊🇺🇸
I like my stock RG ST heavy breather, doesn’t bother me at all, but I will buy the Trask transmission cover to significantly reduce the oil going into the intake. Only going to run a star 30/30 cam so I don’t feel the need to upgrade that yet
Thanks for watching and commenting with your input on the topic. If you are already a subscriber to the channel...thank you. If you haven't yet subscribed to the channel I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so. Thanks for your support and ride safe. 👊✌️👍
Thanks for watching and commenting. So far I am really liking the new set up. Much more comfortable and I feel as though I have better braking control as well. Ride safe and enjoy the ride. 👍👊
That heavy breather system looks cool. Too bad it gets in the way of your leg. One of these days I will have to get to my local dealer and sit on a street glide st and see how that heavy breather is against my leg. I wonder if there is a heavy breather "extension" that would move it forward?
Ok looking and doing research, who actually manfactures the ventilator air clearner element for Harley davidson? I have the 2023 street glide special and like the look of the factory low profile 114 stock box. Please advise.
Thanks for watching and commenting. That is a great question but unfortunately if you look at the air filter it is just stamped with the HD part number. I so also run the Ventilator Extreme on my 2023 Street Glide ST and that air filter is made by K&N. If you are already a subscriber to the channel...thank you. If you haven't yet subscribed to the channel I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so. Thanks for your support and ride safe. 👊👍✌️
Like others have stated. I really don’t like the heavy breather on my sg st either. I much prefer the ventilator for the exact same reason you describe. In fact, I don’t even like the look of the heavy breather
Thanks for watching and commenting. The heavy breather is just not conducive to comfortable riding if you are of average height. If you are already a subscriber...thank you. If you haven't yet subscribed to the channel I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so. Thanks for your support and ride safe. ✌️👊👍
I have a heavy breather on my 19 RG standard but don’t have the same issue. I wonder how much difference is there between the screaming Eagle on the RG standard from the CVO stock one. Great vid Rick!👊🇺🇸
Thanks buddy. I appreciate the comment. I'm not sure if there are any differences or not. I've heard some people have the same problem I do and some are just fine with it. Ride safe and enjoy the ride. 👊👍🇺🇸
Excellent video...that I discovered immediately AFTER I switched out the heavy breather for the SE Ventilator. I found HD breather bolts on eBay and while they fit, they're a different part #. To be safe, I just ordered the correct ones. The bike runs just fine, though. Since making the video, have you found any more information on the air flow differences between the OE heavy breather and the SE?
Thanks Larry for the question. I have not been able to find any further info on airflow. However, the bike runs great and I have had no issues at all since making the switch. Ride comfort is much better. Ride safe and enjoy. 👊✌️👍
Good video while I like the look of original AC you had it is not good for comfort for sure. I was lucky both my Heritage and RKS came with ham can style AC and I love it. I changed it on Heritage to S&S which was awesome and still low profile and I liked a look a lot but the type you installed is lowest profile I found so far. Good job!
Thanks Art for watching and commenting. I really like the look of the heavy breather but it just was not good for riding comfort or being able to properly apply the rear brake. Now that I have the new ventilator style on it for a few rides the comfort is excellent and I feel much more confident when apply rear brake. Ride safe and enjoy the ride. 👍👊🇺🇸
Thanks for watching and commenting. That should be no problem. Just tighten up until it feels solid and it will be OK. If you are already a subscriber to the channel....thank you. If you haven't yet subscribed to the channel I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so. Thanks for your support and ride safe. 👊✌️👍
Thanks for watching and commenting. I don't know what the part number is I just searched ebay for Harley Ventilator breathers. Lots of them listed and looked for one that had the 117 plate on it. If you are already a subscriber...thank you. If you haven't yet subscribed to the channel I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so. Thanks for your support and ride safe. ✌️👊👍
HD won't sell a 117 ventilator emblem as this is a CVO part number. In order to buy any CVO part from HD, you must supply them with a CVO VIN number that is registered to you. Thanks for watching and commenting. If you are already a subscriber to the channel...thank you. If you haven't yet subscribed to the channel I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so. Thanks for your support and ride safe. 👊✌️👍
Thanks for watching and commenting. The Ventilator filter is basically disposable. You can blow it out with air to get dirt off of it, but, they can be replaced when really dirty. If you are already a subscriber to the channel...thank you. If you haven't yet subscribed to the channel I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so. Thanks for your support and ride safe. 👊✌️👍
There are several harley breathers that will fit the 114. The best bet is to check harleydavidson.com or check with the parts dept. At your local dealer. Thanks for watching and ride safe. 👊👍✌️
That is another good solution. Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate the support to the channel. If you are a subscriber thank you. If you haven't yet subscribed I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so. Ride safe and enjoy the ride. 👍👊🇺🇸
It's a stock rear brake pedal that is modified by the Soft Brake company to sit the pedal a bit lower to the floor board. If you Google Soft brake you should find the website.
I do like the Low Rider ST. I've ridden them on a few occasions. The heavy breather on that bike doesn't impede getting to the brake as it has mid controls...so no issue. If you are already a subscriber to the channel...thank you. If you haven't yet subscribed to the channel I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so. Thanks for your support and ride safe. 👊✌️👍
You can also put the ventilator screamin eagle breather on a M8 107. For this video I was using my M8 117 as the example bike. Thanks for watching. If you are already a subscriber... thank you! If you haven't yet subscribed I'd be honored if you'd consider doing so. Thanks for the support and ride safe. 👊👍✌️
That could be an option however I believe my shin would still be hitting the breather. Thanks for commenting. I appreciate the input and perspective. Ride safe and enjoy. ✌️👊👍
Obviously I didn't like mine either. Changing it out to a ventilator style was a huge improvement at least from a riding comfort perspective. Thanks for watching and ride safe. 👊👍✌️

Looks great Rick and I completely agree that the heavy breather obstructs your leg.
Thanks Eric. Now that I have it switched I feel much better on the bike. Better comfort and I feel much more confident when braking not that there is nothing blocking the rear pedal. Thanks for watching and ride safe. 👊👍🇺🇸
Agreed! Great idea abt changing the breather. I'd like to put one on my 107. They look better than the big thing on my 107
Yes. I changed the old style out on my 2019 Road King Special last winter to the screamin eagle ventilator. It looked nice. Thanks for watching and ride safe. 👍👊🇺🇸
Really solid video Rick! Very clear walk-throughs and explanations.
Thanks Toby. Much appreciated. ✌️👊👍

I took the elbow breather off my roadking...it's too obtrusive. I love the football style ones. Definitely a great switch
Thanks for watching and commenting. It was really not a good design from my perspective. Plus I really didn't feel safe as it was difficult to get my foot easily to the brake pedal. I appreciate your support...Ride safe and peace ✌️ 👊👍🇺🇸
I believe Fuel Moto sells a “Sleeper” kit for the Ventilator intake. You use the same cover but have a bigger filter that bring in more air.
Thanks Paul. I'll look into that perhaps. Thanks for watching and ride safe. 👍👊
Agree...plus it works much better for riding at least for me. Thanks for watching and ride safe. 👊👍
Thank god mine came with the ventilator kit and I first noticed that when I sat on a new ST. I told the salesman I would probably change that first right away.
Yes the heavy breather was not the best for me. Thanks for watching and ride safe. 👍👊
Great video, I have this problem on my 2024 breakout would this part fit and can I do by myself without loosing the warranty on the bike 🏍
Thanks for watching and commenting. You could do this to your break out as well. I would suggest checking the part numbers to ensure proper fitment.
