You know, the saddest part about this video series is that it ends. We don’t hear much from Andrew outside of these tutorials for most of the year, and that’s sad, as I really enjoy his videos. It’d be nice if he made more advanced tutorials as well while waiting for new versions of Blender to release.
yep could not agree more, would love some more of the medium level and advanced tutorial like he used to do, although i can understand why he does not, the donut is accessible to beginners and so a far larger amount of people while more advanced stuff takes longer to make and gets less views
I love the way you explain things. I have tried to make sense of everyone's tutorials and as a person who has only photoshop experience, it's been very helpful to follow your example.
What a nice encouragement to say if we make this far we are on a good path to be 3D artists. My donut is not half-bad at all! Thank you very much for the series. And now to keep learning!
Being honest here I’m just watching your tutorials in order to figure out how to even do anything (not building a donut trying to sculpt a body for a funny pfp) and quite genuinely your amazing at showing what techniques to use and how to do things you need some more recognition in my opinion. You definitely helped a brother out
The technical check part is SO INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT!!! I had a few issues with my mesh that needed going over that i didn't notice until i attempted to apply the solidify and my icing went away entirely. A few reloads later i got it figured out, but yeah make sure your mesh isn't borked and make duplicate saves in case you save a bad mesh.
Watched the video twice before starting. On the third view, I followed along in Blender. Watched it two more times to cement to memory the process. In the last viewing, I stopped along the way to play with the different sculpting tools. I am completely enthralled. That was fun. Blender is very, very cool. There were some keystrokes being used that were not introduced in the video series, but I read through the shortcut cheat sheet and found them (shift + tab for example). Another great video. My donut is looking great. I am excited to post it to the Discord at the end of the video series.

Had to pause the video to comment about the "Why would you make use do this, Andrew?" moment with the shrinkwrap modifer. I always appreciate when teachers purposefully make a super common mistake to show us what to look out for. Massive thank you for this series.
man for me this was the hardest part cuz my icing always goes away from the donut I have watched this video more than 5 times... but I wont give up!! 🔥

I followed every step through the first three tutorials and I'm doing pretty well! Thanks for the awesome content! I am trying to use the sculpt brushes, but they don't actually do anything. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but I can't figure it out.
If your sculpt doesn't show up in object mode: Go to Object Mode, select the object, go to Modifier Properties (click on the blue spanner) and change Level Viewport value to bigger than zero until your modifications shows up in Object Mode.
patting myself on the back now, im 2 hours in on my donut and have rewatched the videos several times. havent given up hope and im excited to see my finished donut hopefully before the end of the day.
Never give up, never surrender. I've done lots of modeling using apps like Fusion 360. Blender is more an artistic form of Fusion IMHO. I really want to learn Blender but still find it overwhelming and confusing as there are controls all over the place in the app. Sometimes there appears to be no rhyme or reason where they put options in menus for functions/features. Best recommendation I have to others who want to learn Blender from this video is to watch them over and over until you get it. I personally watched parts 3-6 several times.🤔
"and that's how you create a skin leasure on a zombie" lol. I love the light-hearted way you teach such a complex skill! Thanks for the amazing tutorials!
As many comments before I really just wanna say thanks to you at this point! Just startet Blender with your videos and even I'm at the very beginning it's just fun making that donut! I'm pretty sure I found another really interesting hobby for me.
I'm so happy to finish this part, I've been putting it off for two weeks but I'm back! And I feel very excited so I'll go ahead and watch the next part now!!
I would say a very sensible (and generous) approach to providing tutorials for current versions of Blender for free. Has anyone here been paying for donut tutorials?
@@royalsarna6107 These are done specifically for new users to Blender like me. I keep doing them for each new version released as I just started with Blender, but don't get much time in it, so I basically have to relearn Blender each time. I was with some mental problems. then I wanted to be busy so I started following your blender donut tutorials. Now with the ending of your video, There is a gentle smile on my face thinking such a wonderful world this man has shown to me. Thank you very much sir.
I appreciate that your teaching is easy to understand, and your encouragement means a lot. Thank you!
when i was new i try the 2.79 version, with the old tutorial, and now i use 4.0,still using tutorial, but me now kinda more understand what to do and what the function, this guy lead me from the very bottom until now, what a legend we have in this world,Blender Guru the GOAT,thanks man, you are the best
Made it this far so far!
As someone with 0 (visual) artistic background, I wasn't sure if I would have any success in Blender, but so far your tutorials are very comprehensive and easy to understand! Hopefully I can make it through the whole thing and have something delicious looking at the end of it
Your icing tutorial from 3.0 to 4.0 is WAY better. Thanks for the update!

You know, the saddest part about this video series is that it ends. We don’t hear much from Andrew outside of these tutorials for most of the year, and that’s sad, as I really enjoy his videos. It’d be nice if he made more advanced tutorials as well while waiting for new versions of Blender to release.
Totally agree
Yep. True
he's pretty active on twitter and he sends out his weekly email
yep could not agree more, would love some more of the medium level and advanced tutorial like he used to do, although i can understand why he does not, the donut is accessible to beginners and so a far larger amount of people while more advanced stuff takes longer to make and gets less views
thats true.
I love the way you explain things. I have tried to make sense of everyone's tutorials and as a person who has only photoshop experience, it's been very helpful to follow your example.
The main reason my donut looks good is because of how well you explain things. Otherwise, I would have been stuck on part 2. Great video.
i'm here just to enjoy watching you teach. i don't do 3D anymore. just enjoying watching tutorials time to time. specially the Guru.
8:19 16 times the detail🤣, specially dedicated to Tod Howard😜😀, I am surprised no one caught it in the comments section, You are doing a wonderful job Andrew😍, Never stop your training🙏, Blenderons will be truly lost without their one true Guru🔥😍😍
🔥
for those facing a similar problem: make sure you remove the shrinkwrap modifier before applying solidify !
@@floppa559 Thanks mate, that was it
I've approached blender a couple of times in the past decade, but never before was the process so nice and smooth. Thank you very much!
You are cool man, thank you for this tutorial also in 4.0 i am trying to understand blender and you help me so much
Thank you for these awesome videos. Just wanted to take the chance to appreciate your pun (probably not intended):
"This is not a sculpting tutorial, we are just scratching the surface." .... this is just brilliant :D
Noice~ Just started my blender journey this morning with these awesome tutorials before realising I had to impatiently wait for the next vid to be released. *PLEASE IMPRINT YOUR GURU KNOWLEDGE INTO MY BRAIN!*
These tutorials have gotten funnier aswell. Honestly they get better every time.
Title of the series: "Beginner"....
Me: 4 years of blender and still learn a lot of things watching this series. Really cool this Donut
Took me three tries but I finally made it to episode 4. Thank you for making this videos they are amazing!
my donut looks so bad😭
It’s fine bro it’ll get better hopefully😭
Mine too
It's not supposed to be pretty at your first shot, tbh. You'll get better w time, just keep practicing
Just do it 30 or 40 more times. They will look great by the end. I promise. That's probably what he did to make this tutorial.
Mine has a big ass liquid drop
thank you so much, honestly the fact you explain every single thing and what they do is amazing, i appreciate your hard work and time investment into this, ive been sitting here for the pass 2 hours maybe, ill take a break now and continue tomorrow, i am 30 years old, gonna be 31 in 7 days and i felt like i was too old to start now, but i love 3d and video editing so much, i just had to try.. god bless you man, and good luck to everyone else who is here
Hey, man, I am 67 and just found Andrew today. He's a great one.
appreciate your comment, this always remind me, i alwawys have had this issue, when iw as 25 i would say the same thiing, now i realize i had so much time to learn so many things
If you ever feel useless just remember that there's people out there who dislike Andrew's videos
I keep making mistakes in between as I progress through the session. I simply run the video again and find out what went wrong. Really great help for a beginner like me. BIG THANK YOU TO ANDREW
At 13:17, for those who haven't set many levels of undo like me , you can delete the mask with ctrl + click.
I'm happy that the answers to the questions I have are always in the comments! Thank you.
@@phubans Peace and love man ♥
This one is the easiest and coolest part so far. part 3 was such a hard think to do tbh but this one was sooooo fun. loved it!
I followed every step through the first three tutorials and I'm doing pretty well! Thanks for the awesome content! I am trying to use the sculpt brushes, but they don't actually do anything. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but I can't figure it out.
i am using xp pen tab but it didn't work on sculpting
Bro YOU ARE THE BEST TEACHER IVE EVER HAD, so easy to understand u and u so inspirational, love this vid bro
Jesus christ why is this so difficult. My brush does nothing.
Don’t give up like I did I realized if I didn’t give up last year I would’ve been somewhat decent at blender
Apply the transformations!
Object mode > select icing obj > ctrl + a > all transformation. Now sculpt mode should be ok!
If your sculpt doesn't show up in object mode: Go to Object Mode, select the object, go to Modifier Properties (click on the blue spanner) and change Level Viewport value to bigger than zero until your modifications shows up in Object Mode.
patting myself on the back now, im 2 hours in on my donut and have rewatched the videos several times. havent given up hope and im excited to see my finished donut hopefully before the end of the day.
bro has a phD on donuts
It's rare that I can't wait for Monday to be here already. Part 5 is gonna be lit, what a way to start the week!
I finally made it here. :´)
:)
Reconstructing myself in blender right now and the donut tutorial is the best way to start, thank you blender guru
8:18 dude Crushed todd howard 💀💀
Every time you watch these series you can learn new things about donuts
"16 times the detail...", I see what you did there... ROFL!!
"and that's how you create a skin leasure on a zombie" lol. I love the light-hearted way you teach such a complex skill! Thanks for the amazing tutorials!
I have no idea what I did bit my icing exploded
😭
GOSH!!! I TOLD YOU THAT GUNPOWDER ISNT A DESSERT INGREDIENT! YOU ALREADY DID IT WITH OUR PUMPK8N PIE AND HURT GRANDMA!
As many comments before I really just wanna say thanks to you at this point! Just startet Blender with your videos and even I'm at the very beginning it's just fun making that donut! I'm pretty sure I found another really interesting hobby for me.
Coming back to this cause I deleted 3 hours of work🤡 The save button is a friend...don't forget that.
everything you make is autossaved but it’s pointless now cuz I’m three months late
I'm so happy to finish this part, I've been putting it off for two weeks but I'm back! And I feel very excited so I'll go ahead and watch the next part now!!
He's milking the shit of his donut series
I think probably because donut series is his most watched videos. That's how most people found this channel.
I would say a very sensible (and generous) approach to providing tutorials for current versions of Blender for free. Has anyone here been paying for donut tutorials?
@@DarcMagikian yeah but wheres the orginalilty? like make new content
@@royalsarna6107 These are done specifically for new users to Blender like me. I keep doing them for each new version released as I just started with Blender, but don't get much time in it, so I basically have to relearn Blender each time. These tutorials are the only things keeping me trying to learn Blender. Otherwise it feels way to overwhelming.
@@royalsarna6107 my guy he makes these every new version for free
if you wanna see other stuff check oout other vids
Watching through these tutorials and super impressed, I went ahead and joined the discord. Seeing the sculpting of the icing all I can think is a hat or hair on a person. So excited for all the possibilities!
@blenderguru Bro, I've been struggling with Blender on and off for 10 years. I mainly tinker with the Unreal Engine, but I realize that I can't get around Blender. Blender 4.0 and your donut really open up new worlds for me. Many thanks from Germany to Australia.
P.S. If you ever do a tutorial for a game-optimized medieval enterable house, I'll hang a photo of you on my wall :-)
I finished part 3 just minutes before you uploaded this part, what a fun surprise
I'm learning 3d modeling to make a game, and I'm starting out with these tutorials. very useful, easy to follow, and fun to do
@@Secret_Pilot1 thanks! I'm actually pretty far in the donut, but I dropped it to make a model for the game. I'm VERY happy with it, these tutorials got me really far
Even though my donut is not very good, I just really love how you are so positive. You are like the bob ross of 3D
This is the 3rd time I've tried. The first 2 times I didn't make it past the 1st tutorial. This time (3rd) I made it here to the 4th tutorial and although my donut is not a work of art, it is looks great to me! And I was able to do it without mistakes. Thanks so much for the lessons!
Thanks for the liquid gold quality of teaching. Its simply amazing.
Like several others on here, I try to start over with my donut for each lesson to strengthen my recall on the numerous commands. You have all but mastered Blender from what I see and I am at the extreme bottom of that capability. I do know one thing for sure though... if you heat your oil to about 360°F and gently place your proofed dough in the pan, you will have made a real donut without nearly as much effort. In the meantime, I am determined to make my donut and more with my computer.
I got super happy when you said it was complex stuff. now i feel very accomplished
this series has helped me so much with developing food models for a game im creating, thank you so much for this! you're a hero. you earned a sub
You are creating a game 😮?
I'm coming from 3DS Max and ...OMG 😱
Ok, to be honest, the early version was very hard to learn and I surrender thousand times, but 4.1 is astonishing!
THANK YOU SO MUCH 🍻
This guy's smile made me didnt give up honestly
I’m committed to making it to the under one million class 🍩 😂
i am a few years in blender now, but still following this tutorial and finding new helpfull stuff :) it's gonna be my 4th donut haha
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS EVEN THOUGH I JUST STARTED WATCHING THEM HAHA you're very helpful man. Wanted to learn 3D modeling and had my eyes on blender for like a year, and just didn't know what to do. I finally am able to learn thanks to your guidance! Thank you!
Very grateful that you took the time to update this tutorial once again. Thank you!
I did it one time and I'm enjoying doing it again, and I feel like I'm doing better this time!
Thanks!
7:58 there is alternative modifier to subdivision surface, that allows to sculpt ON the modified surface. It's called MULTIRESOLUTION MODIFIER. It works very similar to subdivision as for useage, but allows for sculpting it without applying modifier. It also supports (if i recall) dyntopo
Thank you so much for your great Blender-Tutorial-Series! Im coming from 3ds Max and Maya, and to be honest, ive had a hard time, to get used to the blender hotkey and navigation-system.. I mean it isnt a complete different pair of shoes, but also it isnt that easy. But thanks to your great tutorials, i think i can learn it 😊😊👍👍
