Yes the Olympics Ceremonies was the 1st time I'd ever heard KD sing this incredible song and every since that performance I've looked forward to hearing her sing it again every time she does, her voice is such a powerful, soulful voice like no other I've ever heard, she's amazing but underappreciated, I'd recommend everyone to listen to her version as she sings like an angel on earth!! Some years ago, my husband and I were standing in line at a home town cafeteria. Looking around I spotted a familiar face a little ahead of us. It was that talented, elegant man who was chatting softly with a friend.. Van Cliburn could have been at the finest cafe in town, but here he was just like the rest of us; waiting his turn.

@@junevenable3724 Oh yes! I believe I know that "upscale" cafeteria...in Fort Worth. I never ate there but I know Van ate there quite a lot. I did dine at LaPiazza, his favorite Italian restaurant in Fort Worth. He liked the Caesar salad with sliced tomatoes and garlic ravioli. Long ago I worked as an out-of-state volunteer for VCF trying to get a grant to have classical music appreciation taught in the public school curriculum. My background is in elementary education and early childhood development. Van Cliburn was the kindest, most humble artist I ever met and I will never forget him. His genius was palpable.

She's just fantastic, and so was that reception, Australia, in the good old days, no wonder! "Where do you go from here"..."back to Los Angeles",I felt that in my soul. My mother and I visited Australia in the early 80's and just LOVED it, went all over, drove from Sydney to Queensland, train to Adelaide, and just everywhere. On the last night, when we finally boarded Quantas to go back home to California, I cried like a baby. Everyone was asking my mother if I was ok. I felt that.
No need to talk about her voice; it's amazing as we can all attest. But I'm here for her tone and for the utter control she has over her breath and dynamics. A true artist and professional.

I think you’ll find Jeff Buckley changed the whole way this song was performed and sung.. K.D. Lang does a fantastic job but she owes a lot to Buckley..she sings the same verses he sang which are selected from Cohen’s original longer song..she also sings the same beat.. Brilliant version but IMHO Buckley gives the best performance of this song..

I know there are many who love his version and the distinct style he uses to sing it but K.D. sings it with such clarity and emotion and of course one of the best voices on the Planet!!

There is no doubt that she understood the song. And i am speaking from the point of view of a fundamentalist Christian. KD Lang is unquestionably the best with this song -which is a good song, though perhaps difficult for a lot of people. But it puts sex back into a sacred place that we need to respect, instead of it being a dirty word.

Until recently my new favorite rendition of Hallelujah was KD's 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony rendition (if only for the fact Brian Adams and Nelly Furtado lip-sung their performance of Bang the Drum just 20 min earlier that night). That performance truly did Canada proud. But I have to say this is my new favorite rendition. Perhaps it's the recording but KD's tone is particularly well captured here..
