Distance medley relay, sprint medley relay, mixed 4X800 relay.
All good ideas, love 'em! Distance medley especially, that would be cool
@SW-mc2zx ooh I like that too, hurdle shuttle relay
Mixed Distance Medley
I never found the distance medley relay to be very interesting, it was mostly about how well you ran the two longest legs.
Yo the DMR would actually be insane, same for SMR and 4 by 800 but the DMR is on a whole nother level. Imagine having a 2:40 300, 45 400, 1:42 800 and sub 3:50 1600. That'd be some must see TV fr
All of these make more sense than break dancing.
I think every event ever makes more sense than break dancing
what... in the world...
I prefer breakdancing to dressage
Because we live in a world where a powerful few expects everyone else to assimilate to their way.
Some said the same thing about skateboarding.
@@chimyshark Yes, I know. but it is true. Lol
I once read that there were discussions to have cross-country running in the Winter Olympics, since its season is run mostly through autumn-winter time and some events are run under snowy conditions. And the European cross-country championships are always held every December.
Interesting, that would definitely add an extra element to it!
That would actually make the inter Olympics fun to watch
This would also help as it would allow many of the runners that want to run the track 5k and 10k not have to double or give up an event, leading to the absolute best getting to run both.
Some Winter Olympics venues would be very suitable, but others are too cold and snowy for it to make sense. There has been a suggestion made a few times to have a separate Fall (or Autumn) Olympics. The idea would be to include crosscountry running, cyclocross and move mountain biking across from the Summer Games, and then add some other events that are best done outdoors but not in overly hot weather. It would make a lot of sense to put the half-marathon in here (the marathon really should be as well, but they'll never move it from the Summer Games), possibly the racewalks, the canoe slalom (an event that requires a lot of water). It would also be the ideal time of year for lacrosse and surfing to be added to the Olympics, and it would make sense for some of the indoor sports (there are about ten sports conducted indoors in an arena) to be moved over from the Summer Games so other sports can use their Olympic Village space allotments (many sports have to put on limited programs at the Olympics because of a shortage of space in the Village for all the athletes, e.g. track cycling is half the size of the World Championships with events rotating in and out of the Olympic program). The Fall Olympics could take place in the same city as the Summer Games, but be held later in the year, after the Paralympics; that would not add significantly to hosting costs (there would be no entirely new venues other than cross country and cyclocross routes, neither of which require anything more than putting up a few temporary bleachers), while it would ensure that far more events and even sports could be included.
Downhill mountain biking
Futsal
Shuttle Hurdles relay
Mountain Triathlon (swimming, mountain biking, and trail running)
50m for Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Butterfly
25km Marathon Swimming
Cycling relays
Cyclocross
Powerlifting
Mixed 4x100m relay
Mixed 4x1500m openwater swimming relay
Wow there are some AWESOME ones on your list!
@lamelists, how about an inline road race
@@colleenross8752 That would be awesome
25k open water was dumped from world champs.
Cyclocross and dh would bring so many new opportunities when it comes to cycling, no idea why they arent included.
Some form of bowling is the most played sport on earth so bowling should be in the Olympics
You don't need to convince me, bowling oughta be there for sure
A half marathon trail run would be a nice hybrid for cross country and the half marathon.
Nice idea, mix 'em both!
How about, CROSS Fit Half Marathon - so not just a simple half-marathon, or boring steeplechase, but a distance race that requires competitors to jump, climb and crawl obstacles.
- IMO, this more mirrors life. Sometimes in emergencies, people have to get around obstacles, so we the general population can relate
- This event will test both endurance, physical strength and courage.
- This event is sufficiently different from the 26.2 mile marathon to discourage TOP marathon runners from competing
- Now it's not simply the slimmest athlete can win, it's now literally the athlete with the strongest will to win!
- One caveat, all runners will face identical challenges, but the obstacles should NOT be predictable.
No. no. no. no. cross country in is a team event and almost completely anaerobic at the pro level while the half marathon is not. this is wrong. respectfully. wrong. totally different mindsets + training. it's akin to the 800 as to the 3k steeplechase. respectfully, no. no. no. no.
As a Climber I don't think it's the best Idea to bring mountaineering to the Olympics, because it's quite dangerous. But I think Iceclimbing for the winter Olympics with competitions like they already exist and you showed would be a great addition to it.
Thanks, appreciate getting your perspective, ice climbing it is!
Tbf Ice climbing is a logidtical nightmare and draw a lot of viewers even from the climbing community cuz its kinda niche and its hard to set interesting routes.
@@lamelistsArizonan here, been using ai to try and visualize a fictional what if scenario of what if Phoenix hosted the 2004 Olympics instead of Athens.
@@iamarizonaball2642 Do you think it would have been better or worse?
@@lamelists better, assuming it occurred like Sydney, in September-October.
Here's a wild idea, dodgeball as a team event.
Not so wild to me! IOC probably is too uptight for it, but it would be a must-watch
Hell yeah
Need to see the 4x8 at some point
That would be excellent, the 800m is underappreciated so having a 4x800 would be incredible
4×200 also like swimming
@@biswajitghosh1419 Yes, such a good relay option
A relay where one starts with 100m, passed to the following person who runs the 200m, 400m, and 800m. Could honestly be a very interesting watch.
YES! I actually envisioned it in the opposite order, ending with the 100m sprint, but both would be amazing
@@lamelists on paper it looks nice, but I'm scared the race will be over after the 800m or the 400m. the 200 and 100 are too short to regain the lost ground.
@@fidru Fair point. I guess there's only 1 way to find out!
More track relays please. I think adding the distance medley relay would be gold. I would be so interesting to watch the best track athletes in the world at different distances run together. You could see the 200m, 400m and 800m champions compete in the same race. Why are we even discussing this?
Totally agree with you on the distance medley, I think someone mentioned 100, 200, 400, and 800 medley. How incredible would that be?!?
the only issue is that it is another race for people to compete in, meaning it could lead to burnout in the athletes.
@@HMOCubix Not really, the imperative by T&F federation is that teams will have to add 4 or at least 2 more NEW athletes to these Mixed Relay teams. OR They could implement a rule on the number of activities (Heats) competitors can run within a certain number of days. For instance competitors CAN'T compete in more than 3 events in (say) 5 days - including heats, and no more than (say) 3 FINALs in the O-Games (unless there are all INDIVIDUAL Final events).
Hence this nuance adds a great deal of race strategy, and UNLIKE swimming, prevents teams from loading up finals with their TOP athletes... it also prevents teams from endangering athletes by pressuring them to compete exhaustively.
The biggest problem that I see with mixed distance relays is that the positions are totally dominated by the longer legs.
Imagine a runner is 1% faster than another. 1% of 800 is 8m. Could you imagine the 200m runner then trying to make up 8m for their team?
The short distances are essentially rendered as exhibition legs, which would dramatically reduce the prestige value.
Mixed sex relays of the same distance legs, I absolutely agree with though. As the video says, it introduces a whole new layer of strategy and dynamics.
@@HMOCubix It's possible, but it could also mean that a) specialists develop in different events and they choose not to compete in others, and b) it opens to field of athletes who can make the Olympic games
I'd love to see Iron-Man triathlon make it in
The full distance, yeah that would be intense
Hope to see disc golf in the games one day
And Ultimate
Lots of frisbee-based games out there, will be interesting to see if they can cross over from past time to sport enough for the IOC folks to give them a look
Do you play
100% agree on the mile, that would be so much fun.
tbh, I wouldnt mind any event being added, the thing I enjoy the most is watching people who have spent so much blood, sweat and tears finally achieve their goal and it just tears me up every time watching them.
Totally. The women's high jump record got broken today by a brilliant Ukrainian athlete, go watch her reaction when you get a second if you need a dopamine hit
@@lamelists Yeah I saw that, its so amazing. I remember watching Kajsa Berhqvist do the 2.08 indoors. Somethings about high jump is just so special, is so rare those records get broken.
1500 is an event no?
The problem with an ultra marathon and half marathon, who would run it? The marathon runners? They are WAY too exhausted and dead from the marathon. Running a marathon is a lot more taxing than a 5K or 10K and the runners would not want to do a marathon and another event.
A few folks have brought that up, but I could still see it potentially working for a few reasons:
1) If you did the half on the first day of the games and did the marathon on the last day, that would give a 10-14 day break which could be enough for recovery for those who want to do the double
2) Athletes could just choose NOT to compete in both, no different that an athlete in any other athletics event (ie. some do the 100m and 200m double, some choose one or the other)
3) There are plenty of specialist half marathon runners in the world who already make it their preferred discipline, so not only would it give these folks a chance to shine but it could create a whole new generation of half marathon specialists
@@lamelists 10-14 days is not enough for such a long race. There’s a reason Kipchoge only does about one a year
Also most people only do just the 100 or 200 because they aren’t good enough for the other lol
@@q12aw50 LOL I can get that, those are very different events. But I think the same concept would apply to the half marathon and full marathon, folks would specialize in time, it just wouldn't happen overnight
I’d like to see a two person relay, in which each runner runs 200 meters, whether mixed genders or not.
That could be interesting, basically allows a country to use their 200m specialists but introduces the handoff as a complexity
Need to see the 4x200 in the olympics.
I think that's probably the most common suggestion by viewers.... if anyone from the IOC is reading this, MAKE IT HAPPEN!
Cross Country was held in Antwerp In 1920 and not many finished due to the hot weather. I don't know if thats why it was never repeated.
Yep, that was one of the big drivers of it coming out, but it seems like a silly reason to drop it and an even sillier reason to not bring it back. It would be an awesome event!
As someone who does Co-Ed ultimate frisbee, I think that would be a fun team mixed sport to add to the Olympics, it’s a relatively fast game especially if it’s indoor and it would bring a lot more recognition to the sport
Ultimate Frisbee is one that I could see people dismissing, but in reality it checks a ton of the boxes that the IOC claims to care about. I could see it getting into the games in the future if it achieves a critical global mass
They have also had diving for depth as a medal event at no joke the St Louis games. I'm amazed hunt the thimble and hopscotch weren't medal events there!
Diving for depth could actually be kinda interesting, not gonna lie. But those early Olympics were wild, St Louis especially
Free diving is such a dangerous sport that I doubt they’d integrate it. The Olympics has had very few deaths and I could see the Olympic committee being too nervous of potential deaths from it
@@colesmith7509 And that's probably a good thing at the end of the day
There has also been obstacle races in the water included as a medal event over 200 metres at the 1900 Paris Games.
Yeah, now that is something I could get behind coming back. Too much of the swimming is done indoors IMHO, open water swimming events are already gaining steam (see the 10km swim event as an example) so something with an obstacle course could be fun
they do have to be careful with mixed relays, because if the distance is too short, the speed difference is really big, and you don’t want 100m sprinters just full on running into each other. I think a good relay event to add is the 400x300x200x100 race
That's a fair point, obviously they'd have to be pretty careful in thinking through any new events. But I like your idea of a 400x300x200x100 race, there's gotta be a way to make that happen on a track
The standing long jump was also accompanied by the standing triple and standing high jumps. So pretty sure they were all replaced with their running variations which provide way more excitement
And I totally can see how folks would consider these boring AF from a spectator perspective
All the mixed and relay events; my favorite meets in High School were the Relay Invitationals; 4x100, 4x200, 4x300, 4x400, 4x800, 4x1600; 600 medley (100x2/200x2), 800 medley (100x2, 200x1, 400x1) - I'm sure I'm missing some, been a long time.
The relays and medleys are a popular choice amongst viewers it seems. I really think the IOC is missing out on something potentially huge by not moving into these options ASAP
@@lamelists Whereas Michael Phelps gets 8 golds cuz he can swim backwards, sideways, upside down and inside out in the same multiple distances and relays...
There’s a reason only one country in the world has a championship for the standing long jump . . .
And it happens to be one of the most stable, secure, financially independent, and happy nations on Earth. Coincidence?
@@lamelists😂😂😂
I never thought of it but yeah, a half-Mary seems like a no brainer to me and I’m surprised it isn’t in the current program.
Likewise cross-country and finswimming absolutely need to be in the program as well!
Finswimming, now that's one I hadn't thought of myself. Good one!
I think we should bring back obstacle swimming or add obstacles to events that don’t have obstacles, I’m talking out the rowing on at the same time in the same location as the 10km swimmining, enjoy dodging those fun obstacles 😈
LOL now THAT is an obstacle course!
I know swimming already has enough events, but i really think that an 800 medly relay or 800 IM would work really well in the Olympics and be interesting to watch
Swimming does indeed have a ton of events, but the mixed and relay stuff would still be a net improvement if you ask me
For the mixed relays, in swimming alone they should add a mixed 4x100m free and 4x200m free to match the mens and womens relays, as well as the open water mixed 4x1500m event which has been introduced at world champs recently. Alongside that, I think athletics should introduce a mixed 4x100m relay.
Nice ideas! Between swimming and athletics, there are some really awesome possibilities, I hope they expand the mixed formats in the future
@lamelists easy to add these without adding more athletes
The challenge of a mixed 4x100 in track and field is the hand off...the speed a male athlete carries into the exchange is completely different from female athletes...big risk for injuries
We NEED the snow volleyball! That is so fun! Another variation is water volleyball where you have a court about 1/2 a foot under water and out side the court is like 5 feet deep! (Extort a part where you serve) It would be so fun to see in the summer Olympics! I would enjoy playing it too!!🧡
I think I've seen that water variation somewhere on social media, it looks like a ton of fun!
sort of niche sport but would love to see orienteering at the olympics. in this sport a series of control stations are placed in a large open area, normally a forest, though the sprint distance usually takes place in a city environment, which the competitors then with the aid of a map and a compass have to pass in order as fast as possible. it involves an interesting combination of endurance and problem solving and, well, orienteering, as well as balancing these aspects, that makes for quite exciting competition in cool environments.
That's an interesting one, I'd never heard of it myself. Having that sort of logic-based problem solving aspect is not really up the Olympics traditional alley, but hey it sounds like fun to me. If not at the Olympics, that should be more popular as a start
Important to note about the vertical high jump, it's not about who touches the highest point - rather, it's about who has the largest distance between their standing reach and their highest point touched when jumping.
the IOC would need to be very clear on the rules of the game, that's for sure
Krispy Kreme Challenge, Triathlon (with Kayaking in place of Swimming for dirty rivers).
I hadn't thought of kayaking as a substitute, but that's an interesting one! Sounds like Paris 2024 might have needed that, though they still have a couple weeks to clean up the Seine
@@lamelists fun fact, the original triathlon featured Canoeing, Cycling and Running.
Here is an obvious choice: pickleball
Growing in popularity, popular with both men and women, becoming more globally accepted... checks a lot of the boxes!
Very high quality video. Was surprised to see just 1k subs
Thank you! Subs have been increasing pretty quick lately, hopefully it continues!
Juggling in the Olympics - A Perfect Sport
There are many reasons why juggling is a perfect sport and as such why it should be included in the Olympic Games. Juggling has a long history and is enjoyed by people of all ages around the world. It requires discipline, skill, precision, speed, and consistency, making it a unique and challenging sport. It teaches a step by step approach to overcoming obstacles and achieving goals of any kind.
1. Physical demands: Juggling requires the use of the entire body, from the hands, arms, shoulders, and back to the legs and core muscles for stability. It requires strength, flexibility, and endurance. Jugglers must maintain their focus, accuracy and concentration for extended periods of time, which is physically and mentally exhausting.
2. Competitive aspect: Juggling competitions have been held for over 75 years, with participants competing in categories such as endurance, freestyle, and full routine programs. There are established rules and regulations for juggling competitions, making it a viable sport for Olympic consideration.
3. Cultural significance: Juggling has been a part of many cultures throughout history. It has been used in performance, entertainment, and even as a form of therapy. Juggling can be found in ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, medieval art, and in modern-day street performances. Its inclusion in the Olympics would recognize and celebrate its cultural significance.
4. Accessibility: Juggling requires minimal equipment and can be practiced almost anywhere. It is an inclusive sport that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds. Its inclusion in the Olympics would promote inclusivity and diversity.
5. Entertainment value: Juggling is a visually stunning sport that can captivate audiences. Its inclusion in the Olympics would provide a unique and entertaining addition to the lineup of traditional Olympic sports.
6. Juggling improves reaction time, speed, accuracy and proprioception. It is an excellent cross training exercise that can also be used to improve these elements in other sports.
Thank you for the detailed response! I hadn't considered juggling... my guess is the IOC people won't take it seriously, but you make some good points!
This was such a professional video
Thank you, I appreciate it!
The Standing Long Jump and vertical High Jump were included as a one and done deal at the say it again the 1904 St Louis games you know the one where about 99 per cent of the participants came from North America and some events were literal inter club events as against country!
Such an insane event in St. Louis! I actually did a video on the 1904 St. Louis Olympics, check it out if you haven't seen it already, I'd love your thoughts
ua-cam.com/video/H48ZMX7mdB0/v-deo.html
200 metre hurdles. Jumps pentathlon - high jump, long jump, triple, pole vault, standing long jump. Throws pentathlon - add weight throw.
Those are some good ideas, I like it! The jumps pentathlon especially, what a great concept
I remember seeing results many years ago of gym competitions amongst British International track & field athletes. One thing I remember was that it wasn't uncommon for throwers to beat long and triple jumpers in the standing long jump.
One fun thing about standing long jump is that, having seen it on TV, it wouldn't be difficult to have an impromptu competition for kids as I wouldn't say that a sandpit is essential. Just avoid wet grass!
Interesting, I hadn't considered that throwers could beat long and triple jumpers, did they give any indication of what that's the case?
@@lamelists no but I presume it is down to greater leg power. With a run-up the greater speed of the specialist jumper makes the difference.
@@trickygoose2 Makes sense to me, thanks!
Triathlon has a mixed relay in the olympics. It is really exciting to watch.
Yes, it's one of the first to get introduced, we need more like it!
Lifeguard competition events! There are relays and individual races where people have to pick up dummies off the bottom of the pool, beach flags where people have to grab a flag on the beach before everyone else (it's really fun to watch), prone board races (paddle board that you lay on) that can have swimming and running added to them. This would help introduce people to lifeguarding as a sport (which it is) and get more people interested in lifeguarding when there is a worldwide shortage.
What a fascinating idea, I had no idea that there was such a thing as lifeguarding as a sport. It almost seems like a PSA to add it to the games!
@@lamelists the competitions are worth a UA-cam they’re fun to watch! It’s mostly an Australian thing but is starting to take off in North America. Right now it probably isn’t big enough to be added as a sport but maybe even if it’s mentioned around the olympics it could grow!
@@rebeccak6481 Events like this are why I love doing these videos, I learn something new every day. Thank you!
I glanced at your channel icon while watching this video and was shocked you don’t have more subscribers. This video was very high quality and I have a feeling you’re going to get a lot more traction soon. The script was very smooth and everything seemed clean. Great job!
Thank you, I've been trying to get better with each video so I'm glad it's showing up in the final effort. Just crossed 1,000 subscribers this weekend, I'm hoping you're right and there's lots more to come in the future. Thanks for checking me out!
I think there should be trail running, As an ultra, yes a 100km trail run would work well for the olympics for sure.
100km trail run has come up a couple of times, it certainly works for me!
Bring back Tug-o'-war!!
Absolutely!
There is a mixed relay in swimming in Paris. The mixed 4x100 medley relay. I think there should be mixed 4x100 & 4x200 freestyle relays. Also in athletics mixed 4x100 & 4x400 mixed relays like they do in the world championships.
There are lots of great options for the mixed and relay events, the possibilities are endless!
The Paralympics have been flirting with some events for a long time that really should get included officially. Certain distances in track events, frame running, etc.
I didn't feel the vertical jump and standing jump things right away, but if people already train for them I guess they could be good.
You make an interesting point on the Paralympics, as it has some variations which are kinda cool. I plan on doing some Paralympics videos after the main Olympics are done as the Paralympics are just as fascinating!
200m hurdles or 4x200 because i be confused why does it go to 110/100h to 400h. That the same with relay
200m hurdles would be a fun one, I'm not expert but that short change in distance could make a world of difference
No. 200m hurdles is the same as the 409 just cut in half, and if another hurdles event is to be added it can’t just be a copy
@@q12aw50 that like saying 200 is a copy of 400 because its half
@@Rubiconlnd no it’s nothing at all. 200m hurdles is literally a copy because the hurdles don’t even change. You’d have the exact same 3 people on top.
Synchronized skating not being an olympic event breaks my heart. Such an amazing spectator sport.
Yeah it's a weird one to be excluded, it makes a ton of sense
1500m relay is what I want in the Olympics. 100, 200, and 400 are passed off in individual lanes then cut ins for the 800 pass off and finish.
Great minds think alike, I actually have a viewer's choice video coming out in a week or two which is a collection of all the best suggestions from the comments. And that one is getting a mention!
Cross country running definitely. The problem of having more relay events is that the best athletes may not enter because they have other individual and relay events. You will end up with some watered-down events.
Potentially yes, but it could also lead to relay specialists who break new ground. Hard to say until it's tried!
Yes to all of these except maybe the Mile. As you said, it's very similar to the 1500m.
I'll admit to some bias as an Aussie, but I'd also love to see more swimming events, mainly longer distances and more mixed relays.
You're fine to have your bias, we all do! And I like the idea of more open water swimming events specifically, and mixed relays for sure, I think just about every sport could do with more mixed events
One event that I’ve always thought would be a cool idea for track is if they had something similar to the wall that they run up during ninja warrior courses. I feel like that would be a new and exciting addition
They have Speed Climbing now, but the wall in ninja warrior is a different enough concept that it could work
@@lamelists Yur. And instead of actually getting to the top you would just see how high you could get on a more or less endless arc. It would obviously require lots of speed, but the footing, timing and technique would also play a huge factor
@@aidenkeen7102 Couldn't that also be dangerous though? If it's more or less endless, and athletes go higher and higher, what prevents some devastating falls?
@@lamelists I mean if they are training professionally for it then I’m sure they would figure out how to come back down effectively. But they could also maybe do something similar to rock climbing and have a tether that assists in that if it were that dangerous. Or they could wear special shorts where the back on the shorts glide on the surface and they can just turn around once they crest their run/jump and then just slide back down the wall. I think there’s a lot of viable options that could be considered
@@lamelists And also, by “endless” I really just more or less meant that it wouldn’t be high enough to where they could actually get to the top. Although they could potentially figure out a way to make the height adjustable, and in that case you could have it where you can make it to the top
I have a sport that is very entertaining if it is played in Olympics and doesn't need any of the expensive equipments. Its called Kabaddi and its a team sport. Many countries play it but it's dominant in Asia.
A few folks have brough up Kabaddi, looks like a great sport. Yeah not very popular outside of Asia, but hopefully that changes!
High Diving
5k, 25k and 4x1250m relay open water swimming
Artistic Swimming Acrobatic Group
Double Mini Trampoline
Synchronized Trampoline
Tumbling
Mountain running
Synchronized Skating (it's figure skating but with 12-20 skaters)
Finswimming (which has underwater swimming disciplines btw)
Lifesaving Pool&Beach Disciplines
(Both are technically their own sports but fall under the "swimming" category)
Vaulting (it's kinda gymnastics but on a horse going in a circle)
Acrobatic Gymnastics
Aerobic Gymnastics
(Again own sports but under the "gymnastics" term)
Field Archery
Beach Handball
4x200m Track Relay
So many good ones in there! Wanna make a part 2 video for me? 🤣
You should have added the 4×200m and the 4×800m in track & field. Those are both events in State hs meets.
Quite a few folks have brought those relays up in the comments, sounds like a great idea
Should be 3000m instead of the mile honestly. There’s a fair few 3ks held all the time and it would bridge the gap well for 1500 and 5k runners.
Interesting, 3km is definitely a popular one too
I want bowling and golf to be back in the Olympics.
You've got my vote!
Golf is in the Olympics, disc golf however is not. Lawn bowls is in the Commonwealth Games.
Things I did not expect: Aaron Gordon to show up in the NBA Combine clip.
I'd also love to see the inline version of speed skating for the summer olympics. We have the winter event, but why not the one on wheels?
Great idea on inline skating, makes sense as you say vis-a-vis the Winter version being in the games already
Cyclo cross should definitely be in the Olympics
Sounds intense
A Biathle which is a 1500 m run - 200 m swim - 1500 m run and bears a close resemblance to an aquathlon.
Very cool, that would be fun!
I know this video was just about events of preexisting sports, but Underwater Hokey absolutely needs to be added. at least where I live it's a pretty big sport. My school has like 8 teams, and it is really competitive so I see no reason why it should not be added.
That's an interesting idea, I wonder how much appeal it would have around the world? I don't know much about it
For tennis they should also have a team tennis competition that’s similar to the format of the Davis cup along with the individual tennis competition.
They should also have four-man beach volleyball as well as coed division for beach volleyball.
Swimming should have coed relays.
And with the rising popularity of pickle ball, that should eventually be an Olympic event .
Some great ideas there... pickleball is a fun one, but feels like the IOC is a little too self-serious to make that happen sadly. That said, I'll be happy to be proven wrong!
Love these ideas. I think there should be a team decathlon/heptathlon maybe. Or even better have a team component of swimming or track kinda like they do NCAA to have overall country winners based on points earned for placements.
Glad you like my ideas, and for what it's worth the comments section is loaded with even more great ideas. The power of the internet at play!
would love to see tumbling (for reference, see 2022 Men's Final Tumbling - World Championships Sofia, Bulgaria), cheerleading, futsal, and roller skating. i strongly agree on the snow volleyball.
Those are some good ones too! A few people have brought up futsal especially, that's super popular
I go for tracks 4x100 mixed relay, 4x400 mixed relay the half marathon and mixed relays in swimming for 2028 LA Games and some you have mentioned I hope they will be added in 2032 games and so on.
Glad we agree on a few, nice!
Distance Medley Relay is a Must-Have!!
Totally agree, how awesome would that be
Agree with all......and a downhill mountain bike race, but not in the host country, unless it's France, cuz the finest course in the world is at the Alpe d'Huez in the French Alps. Goes from 11,000 feet down to 2,700 feet and no other MTB course anywhere is as good. The "Megavalanche" is held there, and it's crazy.
Make it so
Sounds awesome. Mountain biking should definitely get more Olympic love, too many of the Olympic events are in static, controlled environments, so having more outdoor events with unique conditions would be great. That goes for the running too (ultramarathon and trail running for example)
Orienteering. Basically a time trial, waypoint race, with different potential routes between waypoints. The athletes are given a map, but can't look at it, or know the course until they start their race.
A few folks have brought that one up, a good one for sure!
Definitely in favor of adding more relay races in track. I also think they should do team scoring in track like interscholastic in high school level.
A few folks have brought up the team scoring, it could definitely make sense. Gymnastics even has something similar already, so it's not without precedent
for the half marathon however, most of the competitors would also be marathoners, and running that far with only like 2 weeks rest isnt easy which might be a reason idk
Not easy for sure, and probably the biggest thing that would hold this back from inclusion in the games. But just like in other sports, the athletes would have to decide whether they want to try for the double or just focus on a single event. It happens in many other disciplines, including other running events (ie. do both 100m and 200m or focus on one or the other), so it's not without precedent
For the half they wouldn’t need to do rounds like they do for track events, so I don’t think it would be a problem for people to double as long as the half is earlier. I’m surprised this isn’t in already. It would be nice to see a 100 km ultramarathon and full distance iron man triathlon!
@@stuarthys9879 I think it's doable too. I don't think it's crazy to think the half could be done on the first day of the games and then the full marathon 10-14 days later on the last day. And while not every marathon runner would want to do both, that's fine, it can leave for specialists to develop in the half marathon over time
If they added half marathon and it was held during week 1, would the same runners that are competitive in it also be the top marathoners on the final day (similar to how 100m and 200m finalists have high overlap)? Or is it too grueling resulting in runners choosing only one event and not trying to double half and full?
Interesting question, I'm guessing that if there was enough distance between the races then folks could do both if they chose? If they were back to back days I'm guessing not but if it was opening and closing days of the Olympics that seems like enough recovery time to me
Weirdly enough, the half is almost a specialty event. The last clean WR holder, Geoffrey Kamworer, has struggled at the full marathon. Zirsenay Tedese also fell into the specialist category. Would love to see the half
I would like a single mixed relay event. Like single 4x400m. So it’s m-w-m-w but it’s the same two athletes. Would be not only interesting for smaller countries that maybe can’t built a whole relay team but also would maybe give chances to others runners if it’s one the same day as the normal relay. Like in biathlon the to mixed and single mixed relay and it’s so interesting to see what tactics they use in building teams and see nations that normally can’t participate in relay events due to a lack of athletes.
Totally agree with you! I especially agree with the part about tactics in team building, the mixed and relay events would introduce a whole new level of strategy that doesn't exist today. For the mixed events, it would also force teams to ensure that both their men's and women's programs are well funded if they wanted to compete, something which doesn't happen consistently these days
i wish wallassisted high jump was a thing.
you take a small run-up then take 3 steps against a vertical wall. From the 3rth step you launch yourself either over a bar or measure the distance you are removed of the ground at the peak.
4.5m should be possible atleast
Yeah, that's a cool one for sure, it's an interesting variant to say the least!
Tetradecathlon and icosathlon ! The equivalent of heptathlon and decathlon but with the double of events. I would love to see this events with official championships like Olympics and others !
OMG just the name is exhausting, I can't image actually doing it
@@lamelists Haha indeed it's incredible to just finish these events !
Mixed 4*100m would be fun to watch
Pretty much any relay with mixed as the variant would be good, wouldn't it!
4x200 and 4x800. Glad they added the mixed 4x4 though!
For sure! It's a good start, I think quite a few others have brought up the distance medleys too, I could see those combined for a REALLY interesting event
Love the file vision of the Melbourne Marathon in this video
Then I hope you liked other parts of the video too!
Would love to see rugby union, as well as rugby 7s, such an interesting sport to watch imo
Rugby 7's is coming fortunately!
I may have commented on this under another video, where I saw a link to this... 10,000 meters in Women's Speed Skating. The world record is now faster than Eric Heiden's time in 1980.
Amazing. Weird that they don't already have that in the games as a format?!
What about Rugby League 9s? Seems like a nice complement to Rugby Union 7s that's already in olympics while not being too similar
All rugby is awesome if you ask me lol
@@lamelists True lol
Love me my NRL and Super Rugby (Go Raiders and Brumbies!)
Synchronized skating would make a great addition to the olympics being a unique entertainment addition the the Winter Olympics the one team athletic and artistic sport at the Winter Olympics I myself enjoy watching the high level teams that’s come from over 20 country’s around the world already.
A few folks have brought up synchronized skating as a good option, so it definitely has it's supporters in these comments!
I like the mile, but there's no way it'll be in if the 1500m is there. Which race would competitors run in? Many athletes already find it difficult to double-up events during the 10 days of the athletics.
Yeah I agree, which is what makes it such a shame because the mile checks pretty much every box that the IOC claims to care about
I like relay. I hope they add 4 x 800m men, women and mixed. 4 x 1600m is also interesting.
4x800 is probably the most popular choice for addition, so you're not alone!
For the marathons it probs would not happen cus at some point athletes are gonna have to chose which event they are gonna do. Like some top runners would be able to win or run a top 10 in all the longer distances (5k, 10k, marathon).
For the others I would say add ice climbing and cross country, but the others don’t really make sense to me. On some of these 100% people would just do them for fun besides their usual disciplines
It's possible, specialists could emerge in individual events, but that's the case in lots of other sports (swimming, track, gymnastics, etc) so it might not be the worst thing in the world
@@wesselzwakenberg Glad we at least agree on a couple!
I couldn’t make it past #3. Hopefully it got better 🤞
Sorry to hear that, you don't like running events I take it?
I can't believe the Olympics don't have the mile. I think it's running's best event
It has it's fair share of fans, that's for sure!
Since the "Modern" Olympics began, in 1896, Track and Field have always been in Metrics. Therefore, there was no Mile race. The British and it's Commonwealth Countries, including the United States of America, used Imperial measurements. Then Britain and it's former Colonies, switched to Metrics after the 1962 Commonwealth Games. Meaning it was only the USA that continued with Imperial distances, at least internally. The USA started a program to convert to the metric system in the 1970's, over a 20 year period. But that got scrapped by new Government parties when they decided it would cost too much to do so. However, if they wanted to compete internationally, they had to race metric distances. Oh, plus change their outdoor Tracks to 400 meters, not 440 yards.
However, many Countries have, at least once a year, a "Night of the Miles" just to remember the old distance. But that should not transfer to including a Mile race at the Olympics while still having the 1500 meters. It would split the athletes that compete at that distance and would not justify having both races. It is the Americans that won't change and still have 1 mile/2 mile races in their College system and even invented their own stupid race distances of 1600m and 3200m in High Schools. These don't fit any recognised Imperial nor Metric race distances, so the times and distances are meaningless.
We NEED the 50m swimming sprint races. There is only the 50 m freestyle, but they should add 50 backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. We already have the mixed 4x100 medley reley, but we are missing the mixed 4x100 freestyle, mixed 4x200 freestyle. And being a breaststroke swimmer, I would love for them to include styles relays, at least the 4x100 backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly version. THERE'S TOO MUCH IN SWIMMING! The advantage is that there are 4 different styles and not running in a single way as in track events.
Lots of folks like you have brought up more 50m swimming events and you're all TOTALLY right, it's so exciting. And it would make a heck of a relay too!
Would ringette be a good sport for olympics? I have a feeling it would be a good add to the winter olympics and its not very popular so it would help to make it more popular.
You know, I think you're the first person to bring up ringette, but it would be good indeed! I know it's pretty popular here in Canada as a women's sport, what about elsewhere?
@lamelists From Ringette Canada's channel, the countries present in the World Championships are Canada, USA, France, Sweden and Finland, at least from what I remember but if it was to become an Olympic sport, it would definitely open the doors for some other countries probably like the UK, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland and other northern Europe countries.
@@briannathibault3647 Interesting. Ringette is one I could definitely get behind, love that sport!
We can scrap hammer throw. Hammer with discuss and shot put seems redundant. Also triple jump is such a weird thing. Like who invented that?
Triple jump has an interesting history, and it was part of the original Olympic games, so it's got tradition going for it. Maybe I need to do a video on the backstory of some of these events
🤣🤣🤣🤣-The triple jump should definitely go--------I haven't heard anyone say we are excited to watch the triple jump competition.
Futsal would be great, and some skating event, like speed skating or roller hockey
I'm working on a viewer's choice edition of this video and futsal will be making an appearance!
Trail Running, or mountain running! Big hills with technical trails! If cycling can have XC Mountain Biking, we need a trail run!
I wonder if my suggestion of cross country running could incorporate elements of trail running? Obviously even better would be two separate events, but I think I'd be getting greedy asking for that much from the IOC haha
Vertical jump isn’t measured on who jumps the highest, it’s measured based on height to reaching jump
Right, in the video I outline my thoughts which is about touching the highest possible point. So it's not measuring the jump, it's about where you touch
Ultimate Frisbee
Someone else brought that one up, it's got support
Mixed pairs decathlon! each competitor has to do 5 events each in the decathlon. Lots of strategies at play with something like that, especially choosing which events do what.
YES, I love that idea, good one!
Agree with all of these, ultramarathon especially, other than adding the half marathon. While on the surface it 100% makes sense, you would be asking our best runners to do a 10000m / half marathon double, marathon / half marathon double, or only run the half marathon. I can't imagine we would see strong performances from those doing a double involving the half marathon.
I also think athletics fans don't care much about the half marathon. Again, it makes logical sense that there's a distance to include between 10k and marathon, but the half is taxing enough on the body that I think it would hurt any participating athlete's chances at the 10000m or marathon.
In contrast, bringing XC back seems much more doable and rewarding. Training would be similar to 5000m or 10000m training and athletes could certainly double or even triple to include XC in their event list.
I appreciate the thoughtful response. You're assuming though that the same runners who do the marathon will do the half marathon as well. While that would perhaps be the case in the first iteration, over time (and probably in time for the next Olympics after) specialists would move in and so the field could be very, very different between the two
Bowling has been an exhibition sport, time for bowling to take its place in the Olympics
So many bowling fans in the comments here, I love it!
60m & 300m are far more worth adding than any of these. The only suggestion I actually cared for was mixed relays, but unfortunately they now force the teams to go man-woman-man-woman which completely ruins the fun of it. I would add a mixed relay 400m hurdles event, but where the hurdles are all 50% of the height of the athlete. Currently men have to be 6'1+ to compete, while the women can be average height cos theirs are proportionately smaller. In the 100m men can be anywhere from 5'7 to 6'5 and win gold, and hurdles should be similar.
Interesting idea on hurdles, I wasn't aware of the differing heights relative to the athletes themselves
I love the idea of adding the half marathon and the 100km.
Half marathons have never been more popular and it would really draw viewers in.
I also like the standing long jump idea. Kill that goofy triple jump and bring this in!
Yeah honestly, that was why I led with those running ones in this video. It blows my mind that these aren't in the Games already, they're so universally popular and becoming more so. Plus even the runners have brought up the desire to have the half marathon in the Olympics, so I'd love to know what's holding it back
triple jump is the best event ever shut up
I think the half marathon isnt in because all really good half marathon runners will run in the marathon anyways so the half will probably not see much of the world elite compete because they wont be able to do a half and full marathon in the runtime of the olympics
@@protaytoeguy3133 Someone else suggested the half marathon on the first day of the games and the marathon stays on the last day. Do you think that is enough recovery time?
They should add the other 2 trampoline events double mini and tumbling
Quite a few folks have brought up tumbling, seems like it's got a lot of fans!
