Twenty Four 24s in 2024 - 6 Month Update, first half results - Annual Bullet Journal Collections
At the start of the year, I set up Bullet Journal Collections for all of my projects, goals, and creative challenges. Yes I also have a video of my initial setup in the cards at the beginning of the video.
As a teaching artist and creative coach making work in a variety of settings and media, it's helpful for me to find playful ways to stay organized and on-track. To bring order to the chaos while supporting inspiration.
Here I am providing a flip-through with updates on my "Twenty-Four 24s" an idea I first used in 2023 that I heard about from Jess or JashiiCorrin.
Since I have plenty of practices and products that I want to track as I complete them, and many of them are daily or weekly, twenty-four seemed like a reasonable goal for most. It's an arbitrary number, but I like the whimsy of it, and that it helps encourage regular rituals and habits that support creating what I want this year.
If you enjoy this sort of content, check out my 2023 Annual Book and reflections, 2024 Collections, Word of the Year, monthly reflection videos and blogs.
I'll be back soon with more fun with ballet, mindful movement, creativity, and more. Subscribe to stay tuned and see my face again soon, or come visit me on my website to read my articles, subscribe to my weekly email newsletter or find me on social media!
Questions for Reflection:
- What are your biggest goals and projects this year?
- How do you plan for success?
- Which data and metrics do you use to track progress?
- Which lessons from the last 6 months do you want to take into the next?
- What is your next adventure?

Keep strong. Dont forget that despite the struggles in this world, God is full of justice, mercy and love. Justice said we broke His perfect law - causing the world's previous perfection to be destroyed - and therefore we deserve Hell (like a punishment in any legal system but this is eternal as His perfect law is eternal too). Don't think you fit in that category? Ever done one of these?: lying, stealing - regardless of how small the object EVER, hating others - which is murder in God's perfect law, lusting (plus God sees our entire thought life). Justice says "the soul that sins shall die" - if we break one in thought/word/deed it's as if we're guilty of all of them. Quite simply, living by the law (which is doing everything perfectly) is impossible for sinful humans . The law shows us that 1. We will die in Hell if we fail to follow it and 2. We cannot save ourselves BUT, 3. God's perfect, immovable law points us to Christ, who followed and fulfilled the law in thought, word and deed perfectly in our place. He did what we couldn't and did it on our behalf. He was then sentenced to death on a cross, and took our personal punishment for our sin, paying our penalty (like paying our fine) completely FOR us, and has given us freedom. If we turn from the sins we have committed and repent (pursue the opposite direction of love through Christ) He will, overtime, recreate us back into that previously perfect image through The Holy Spirit which Jesus sends to all who accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior of their life. He will help us through the struggle, the stress, and anything we experience in the world. It's about letting Christ in to guide and teach you and obeying Him through His power (not ourselves, we need Him to help us as it's impossible without depending on His power and instruction). He is our substitute in His life, death and resurrection. He essentially rewrote history in our place so that, if you believe in Him, it will be as if you had never sinned if you accept Christ's death as our own in our place. He is in Heaven right now preparing a place for us so that He can take His faithful, believing children home with Him when He returns. He will ressurrect us from death when He returns, giving mercy to those who accept His love, instruction and teachings in their life, and give justice to those who refuse it. He doesn't want ANY of us to go to Hell and die for continuing in evil and rejecting His way to life, thats why He died FOR us. Hes giving EVERYONE a chance, He wants everyone to take the free gift of salvation from Hell. He wants us to be His and begin to follow His life of love and service through His power and abiding (staying) with Him. So long as we keep our hearts near to Christ through His strength, strive to follow His will of perfect love revealed in the Bible, and let Him lead in the midst of (very certain) pitfalls and struggles, we will, in time, win the ultimate victory over sin, pain and DEATH through Christ. Even if you are willing to be made willing, pray for Jesus to come in and He will do what we can't. Give us The Holy Spirit who will guide us in the right way. NOTE: You are NEVER too sinful or messed up that God cannot turn your life around through Jesus. EVER. Regardless of what you've done or what you're going through you CAN make it through Jesus. If you have any questions let me know Xx

Blythe, You are obvious passionate about movement and dance and this is inspiring to others. If you wish to use the Cecchetti port de bras as a starting point for your inspiration, you might be interested in studying them with an experienced Cecchetti teacher. There is so much involved in the musicality, coordination and refined details of line in these exquisite port de bras that cannot be communicated through a book. Every movement and subtlety of timing has a goal linked to training dancers the artistry, coordination and technique of adage, pirouettes and allegro; preparing them for the stage. Without understanding or demonstrating the nuances of eye line, epaulement or shape of the arms across the back, the movements lose all artistry and reason. I do hope you will look at these port de bras in depth and learn to appreciate the true beauty and simplicity of this work.

It is best to find a certified Cecchetti teacher to learn the work. Cecchetti work is extraordinarily beautiful and it is full of detail and technical difficulties, and it requires many years of study to master. Videos give a good indication but they do not replace proper training. Here are a couple of videos: ua-cam.com/video/ZGT4g7FHSvA/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/QsYnOQywk6o/v-deo.html

I am sorry to say that though it is wonderful that you are trying to understand the work of Cecchetti there is very little of it that is close to being correct. I am a senior examiner and was a student of Maestro Cecchetti’s pupils. In a previous comment it was mentioned that you are a lovely dancer which is very true but please take the time to truly learn the work a coach. You are too talented to put yourself in this position of being criticized by so many Cecchetti teachers throughout the world.

Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment, Pamela! Actually the criticism is welcome, as I hope it can shine a light on "missing pieces" of access to these port de bras for students and practitioners. I'm personally interested in lifelong learning, but am not a specialist in any one technique. Can you recommend any good online resources or perhaps easier-to-follow books for those who want to learn more?

Nice to hear from you! As noted in my description of the video, I suspected that my interpretation, which I was re-learning from the book _The Cecchetti Method of Classical Ballet_ after decades away from studying Cecchetti "proper," was not purely correct, but the best I could reconstruct using that particular source. My hope is that it would still be a lovely movement exploration and a springboard for conversation and connection online <3

Not a problem, it was more of an experiment with trying to learn the sequences from the book and I knew there would likely be errors :) Unfortunately, I couldn't find video for the Cecchetti port de bras beyond 1-4 online. Can you recommend a good resource?

Hi Blythe! Studying with a certified Cecchetti coach is far and away a better alternative to learning from a video- especially if the intention is to teach it yourself. Do you have any in your area? The teacher training is great and gives a thoughtful and thorough understanding of the theory, exercises and quality. The video title does say it’s Cecchetti Inspired (great!) but in the actual video I believe you say it is the Cecchetti 5th port de bra which it is not. I’m sure a Cecchetti committee near you would love to have you involved. Being Cecchetti certified is a wonderful thing!

Having a BA in Philosophy, MFA in Dance, teacher credentials in dance and yoga, life coach training, taking on the German language when I relocated, and so forth, I fully embrace continuing education as a lifelong endeavor. Although I don't plan to become a certified teacher in any one codified technique from here, I will certainly continue to pursue further training forever! Glad to have you here.

It is lovely to see you referring to 'The Manual' to try to learn Cecchetti ports de bras. Unfortunately it is extremely difficult to follow unless you already have experience from class. It is such a shame that there is so little authentic Cecchetti material available on video to study. I would have messaged you privately but could not see how - Your dancing is beautiful but inaccurate Cecchetti wise and I would be very happy to point you in the direction of a few good video sources or even show you myself on zoom.

Louise you are the person I have been waiting for! As I shared, it's been decades since I studied Cecchetti "proper" and I would love to know of good sources for understanding especially the 6th/7th/8th in the series. It's true that it's hard to find them online, and I was hoping someone would see this and direct me XD You can reach me directly by email at blythe (at) ablythecoach.com

Preach! Glad you find it at least nice to watch lol Haha, ultimately I'm more interested in arm options and artistry than embodying the purity of one particular style, but I think it's fun to compare systems of training and see what I can gather from the synthesis :) Would be happy to chat and learn more! That is something I am loving about UA-cam lately, the exchange it can foster. Thanks for chiming in <3

This was so awesome! It renewed the story of Cinderella for me, and I love how you openly share your sources and information! I love the seasonal aspect of the story and I will indeed share with my students! Will you be doing any videos of dances to do in class from Cinderella or adaptations? I loved how you did the Dryad Queen adage, we did with the advanced group last week. The dance history and storytelling is something that is lacking now adays and it is part of a well rounded dance education, so bravo to you! Thankyou for sharing. I would love to see any of the other ballets, one of my personal favorites is Sylvia, with the music of Delibes. I saw SF Ballet do it a decade ago. I heard it was the oldest ballet. You are so inspiring, thankyou for sharing 🌠🙌💞💃

And yes thanks for asking, I do plan to share at least one “Cinderella” variation adaptation, stay tuned :) Good idea with “Sylvia,” will see about adding it to the queue for the future.
