Thank you Lester! It definitely was a great deal

Your welcome, I’m all about saving money and doing it myself if I can 😁

Nice!! I mean real Nice!. It's truly Awesome to see a something like this go from catastrophe back to badass again like like this and have it all so well documented like you have done here. Amazing recovery!. It's quite an inspiration and a mega Source of encouragement to keep on keeping on. Thanks For all you do and for sharing it all.
Thank you, I really appreciate the kind words!
Hello Herbie I was inquiring about buying the Lifan KPR I wanted to know if this would be good for someone that never rode before and learning to ride and the lifelong of the bike
Hello, I think it would be a great first bike. It’s easy to ride, lower seat height and very reliable. It does have a forward lean to it that does make your upper body a little more tired when you ride. The Lifan KPM is basically the same engine with a more upright riding position and would be even better as a first bike. But either choice would be good in my opinion.
Good work, glad it all worked out. I didn't see the GoldWing in the garage. Did you get rid of it?
Thank You, I sold the Goldwing to buy a newer model bike to take on my trip. Didn't work out the way I had planned, I was wishing I had the wing on that trip, but I am loving the FJR especially now : )
Like it never even happened.
I know, back in the saddle again as they say! : )
So glad for you it turned out for the better. Amazing you found and replaced the engine within a week, commend your skills and hard work. Enjoy your ride
Thank you, yeah, fortunately for me I was still on vacation and had the time to do it. I'm glad the company Bores cycle shipped the engine so quick as well. If it wasn't for them, I would have had to wait until the next week when I returned to work and who knows how much longer it would have been. Thanks
This bike sounds great now. I could never drive this. It is too smooth and luxurious. I am used to constant problems...lol. Enjoy the fruits of your labor! God Bless.
Thank You, God Bless you as well my friend!
Oh Yeah!!!!
That's what I said : )
Glad to see you got here up and running. The new engine sounds good and strong. 👍
Thanks Jerry, yeah it is running very nice!
I'm happy for you, glad everything is turning out.
Thank you!
Hey I saw u cut the video at 14:20 and there was a hose u put it where the carburetor sits at was wondering where did u get the hose from I’m missing that piece
At 14:20 I put the plastic spring seat in before the spring. Is that what you are referring as the hose?
I been thinking about getting another motor for mine just to have but I'm afraid of getting a bad one or one with a million miles on it.
I know what you mean, it’s just a shot in the dark sometimes, you never know what you’re getting. It’s a pretty big job changing the engine out but it can be a rewarding experience
Can't wait to see the riding video. Great job!
Thank you!
Man! That sounds AMAZING! Great work by Gods grace! Hate it had to happen this way, yet glad you got a replaced engine in there and it sounds wonderful! Happy riding and hopefully you are able to get back down to LA soon.
Thank you Jeff, I was blessed in so many ways throughout this experience that although it was a ton of work it was much more bearable and rewarding because of all the positive things. God bless my friend!
🇺🇸👍🏻🇺🇸
Thank you Jim!
What a week!!!
It definitely was, not any rest on this vacation 😏
I appreciate this video. I was wondering why the exhaust didn’t fit all the way. I need more washers so that I can get a tight seal. 🔥🔥🔥💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Your welcome. I glad the video was helpful 👍🏻
That’s what happens when piston contacts the valve either you spun a rod bearing which is unlikely or your cam chain was so worn out your cam sprocket skip a tooth or your cam tensioner failed
I’ve checked the cct and cam chain as well as alignment, everything is good. I believe the previous owner did or had done a valve adjustment and something went wrong. From the first day I got this it acted funny on #2 cylinder with the throttle body sync. Something held the valve open long enough to come in contact with the piston. A lot of carnage in there.
i have the lifan KP 200 same motor, thanks for the very complete guide to an oil change
Your welcome
Congratulations on turning this thing around and not losing your composure. You deserve a great running bike, and it sounds like you've got it, now.
Thank you, I really got to know the bike pretty well 😂
Congratulations on getting your bike back on the road again! I gather that you concluded that the original failure was that the #2 exhaust valve separated at the head/stem weld. This is consistent with other incidents I've seen. This seems to be one of the most common catastrophic failures that occur in multi-cylinder motorcycle engines, and usually occur during long road trips. For what it's worth, here's what I think happens. #1 - Insufficient cooling of the "inner" exhaust valves in the cylinder head. What I mean by that is that the exhaust valves for cylinders #1 and #4 are exposed to the cooling jacket on two sides - the front face of the head, and either the left side or the right side depending on if we are talking about #1 or #4. On the other hand, the valves for cylinders #2 and #3 are buried in between the other exhaust valves and have less exposure to whatever provisions are made for cooling. #2 - On a long road trip, we tend to run up to "cruising speed" and stay there. This causes more heat to build up during the ride - especially on exhaust valves #2 and #3 as explained above. (Note that the same thing occurs on air-cooled inline V-Twins such as Harley Davidsons or other Harley-like cruisers, but in this case it's because the rear cylinder cooling air flow is blocked by the front cylinder. So what do we do to prevent this? It seems that frequently varying our cruising speed may help, as well as running at lower RPM's. Keep in mind that the exhaust valves can only transfer their heat to the cylinder head when the valve is closed. So by running at lower RPM's allows the valve to stay closed a little longer, and thus permit more heat transfer via conduction. Let me know if you agree?
On my particular case I believe it was a failure waiting to happen. Something I believe on a previous valve adjustment was done wrong or something like a shim was left in the spring chamber. It was an intake valve that failed and intake valves don’t get the heat like exhaust valves. These engines are touring engines and are made to run in all extreme conditions and have run for hundreds of thousands of miles. This failure in my opinion was a human error prior to me acquiring the bike. I can show this on my first video where I did a synchronization on it, number 2 cylinder was low on vacuum compared to the rest. In order to achieve equal vacuum on #2 cylinder I had to screw the adjustment way in and even then it wasn’t holding steady vacuum like the other 3. Apparently I bought a problem that was waiting to explode. So in my case I do disagree with you. Thanks for the comment though
@@herbiesgarage681 Oh! I thought it was the exhaust valve. My bad.
@@tpelle2 No problem at all!
Herbie your back in business, good job! That sure started easy hoping it lasts...
Thank you Harold, yeah I’ll be ready for another road trip before you know it 😁
waoo the engine sound seems super smooth su su su su su 😍😍
Thank you, it is running really well
Congrats, nothing like sweat equity to make you really appreciate your new toy.
That’s no lie 😂 Thank you!
That sense of relief when you first start an engine but add in the stress of the sabotaged big trip that makes for enhanced relief. Great work, thanks for sharing Your experience. Just breathe now….. ahhhhh….. soon you will be able to add in some wind therapy!
Thank you Ken, wind therapy is exactly what the doctor ordered. And I’m going about noon for a ride.
What a fast recovery for this Yamaha! It sounds good. Great job!
Thank you Captcraig, yes it was a lot of work but now I get to reap my rewards 😂
Good job. Now you can sleep at night.
Thank you, I sure could use some sleep, my body is sore all over
that is AMAZING, just got caught up on the whole thing. what a fast turnaround! I would a thought parts for these would be sky high. a whole new engine! im still pooping around with these tires! LOL it's crazy i am an ebayer, I mean for over 24 years in sales. i just checked that out . I just looked up my engine for my bike and with freight i could replace mine for about 120 more than you paid. LOl and it;s a 6 cyl! Yikes. mines good though thank goodness! just g et her back together now is all. you are the man for sure. LOL killer deal!
Thank you Mike, I appreciate it! It was a great deal
Talk about a quick turn around glad you were able to get it back so fast.
Yeah, I was determined to get it back up and running, now I need to rest for a week, unfortunately back to work tomorrow 😂
that has never happened to me....... there always seems to be something that needs adjusted!
I guess I bought a lemon but I made lemonade out of it 😂
Awesome! Sounds great! Take another week off and come on down. 😂
Boy, I’d like to, I’m so tired I’d probably fall asleep on the way though 😂
My question is Why are you replacing the carb.on a new bike?
It doesn’t need a different carb at all, it runs really good with the stock carb. I replaced it with a Nibbi because I know the performance gains on the top end do help some. It won’t hurt the new engine at all. I like to do different things on my channel to help others if they decide to change carbs. Thanks for the comment
I have never heard of or seen that bike before. great Video again man. I got my tires in and my harbor freight Tire machine mounted t a slab out back now, tested with a car wheel that i could not break the bead on for years LOL. It was an old car dolly tire i had. came right off. I am starting to understand why people that do the " mount a cheapo tire changer to the concrete" Videos don't really show the anchors going in. LOL WHAT A PAIN! if i would have made a video on my install i would have have to have labeled it a Comedy. I have the motorcycle attachment for it so that will be for tomorrow. More than likely a another comedy. I am shooting for a Sunday ride though. might be longer, depends on how bad this goes. LOL
They are great bikes! I have a hf tire changer too and I use it on car tires and truck tires but not motorcycle tires. I even have the motorcycle tire attachment. I find it much easier to do it the old fashioned way on the floor with some spoons and other stuff. I think I get less scratches and doesn’t take me very long anymore. Maybe I wasn’t using the hf changer correctly but I seemed like I was always fighting it. Good luck with it, I hope it works great for you! 👍🏻
@@herbiesgarage681 I have done a few car tires I needed to get outta here , it does work good for that so far. still don't have my tires off the bike yet. so much stuff my wife wants me to do I gotta keep leaving my wants aside I shot you a message on your social media about that guy and the windshield, I mean I don't know if he got back saying Yeah or Nay yet. Wow Herbie! As an FJR owner and multiple friends that own these great bikes...I have NEVER heard of this type of catastrophic failure before. I have a buddy that has an 05' (expertly maintained) with 120,000 miles and 0 issues, ever. I'm glad you were able to source a new engine at a great price. God speed on the new engine replacement and tons of fun with your FJR! Cheers!
Thanks Michael, since the very first time that I tried to sync the throttle bottles #2 cylinder was doing funky things with the vacuum. I suspect that the previous owner did a valve adjustment on it and messed something up without telling me. I believe this to be human error and not the fault of the bike, but I really don't know for sure. If I wasn't going on that long trip I probably would have gone over the valves and none of this would have happened. But hind sight is 20 20 they say. Anyway, Thank you for the well wishes, Ride safe my friend!
@@herbiesgarage681 I can't remember, but how many miles on the bike when you got it? If memory serves the valve check interval is 26K, up to 40K if you don't redline it all day long, or ride it like a grandmother 😁. I just had mine done 1 month ago @ 42K and they were all within factory specs, with almost no carbon buildup. Like you, I am leaning toward somebody attempting a valve adjustment and screwing the pooch. Sorry man! (They really are great bikes, I won't own anything else)
@@MichaelJones-ir3cc my bike only has 36k miles
@@herbiesgarage681 👍Barely broken in. That is not a manufacturer defect. Sure sounds like the previous owner sold you a bill of goods. If it were me, I would threaten him with a small claims legal action and let the judge sort it out. (but, that's just me) I realize you bought it "as is", but maybe, just maybe his conscience will bother him enough to help you out with the cost of that 2012 engine.
