TOP SPEED RUN!! Lifan KPM 200cc #Venom
Today I take my KPM out to see what the top speed is. My bike has 700 miles on it and will probably get a little bit faster with time. Also, the bike has the big top box on it that probably adds to the wind resistance but still the bike did fantastic. Come along as we let her rip!

    • @herbiesgarage681
      @herbiesgarage681 2 години тому

      About 37k miles, I believe the previous owner messed something up on a valve adjustment or changing the cct that caused the problem. These are good engines and should last well over 100k miles

  • @ToddBinNM

    Thanks, Herbie. You know that was the first question that we would ask, even before the front tire was mounted. Second question would be: how's that cup holder work above 70 mph? Both questions answered!

      Unfortunately things do happen, I have a Yamaha FJR 1300 that I just replaced the engine on with only 37k miles and they normally go well over 100k miles. Maintenance is the key to longevity of an engine, changing oil regularly, valve adjustments, coolant change and flush, cleaning and adjusting the cvt belt and things of that sort help tremendously. Of course there are still times when things just happen, if it’s mechanical it will fail eventually. Our hope is that it will last as long as possible. Thanks for sharing the information and I hate that you had to go through that.

    😊hey herbie, what rpm do you usuallh shift at? What epm do you usually cruise at? I have a kpm and love it. Also what rpm are you at in 5th gear at 70?

    • @herbiesgarage681
      @herbiesgarage681 День тому

      Hi David, honestly, I don't even look at the rpm to shift, I go by the sound of the engine. I have been riding a long time and hear the engine rev up to a certain point I shift, same goes for downshifting. 70mph in 5th is running pretty high rpm probably close to 9000 rpm I would guess, 6th gear at 70mph would be close to 8000 rpm. I have run long distances with the throttle almost pegged without damaging effects, after its broken in of course.

    Do you or can you show how the slides come apart and go back together? Also my 97's Accelerator pump either isn't working or plugged. Dou you have any advice on clearing the nozzles?

    • @herbiesgarage681
      @herbiesgarage681 День тому

      This is the video I did on the slides ua-cam.com/video/AsY6mRGtPaM/v-deo.html I would buy a new diaphragm for the accelerator pump if it was me, a good made in Japan one, the nozzles would be tiny, I have cleaned ports in carbs with small diameter fishing string before, it's fairly stiff and doesn't damage or scratch the inside.

    • @jeffpayne2261
      @jeffpayne2261 День тому

      @@herbiesgarage681 Thanks for the reply, I found that video after I sent the comment. One other question; Can I remove the top plate where the nozzles are without removing the carburetor bundle to try to clean the nozzles and to see if gas is being moved through the accelerator pump? I spent 1,200.00 at a local shop to have them rebuilt after a long term improper storage. Now since the rebuild the bike won't idle without being half choked and the Accelerator pump not functioning.

    • @herbiesgarage681
      @herbiesgarage681 День тому

      @@jeffpayne2261 the accelerator pumps function is to come on at immediate throttle input to help the pilot jet get fuel in quickly so the bike won’t stumble. A poor idle probably won’t be found in the accelerator pump. I would first try turning the idle speed up until it’s idling 800-850 rpm and see if that resolves it. If it doesn’t unfortunately you might have to revisit the pilot circuit or even worse you may have a vacuum leak. There’s so many vacuum lines, trying to track that down could be a task, hopefully it’s not that. If the pump isn’t squirting at all on either nozzle I would find that strange. I’m not sure about taking the top off. Anything pump related I think I would take the carb out but that’s just me

    My plan is to buy this scooter but I live in Houston and while I would not go without a helmet I can't wear all of that gear. I would pass out or be wet with sweat in our climate. Thing is I do not plan on freeway trips or really going above 30-35 MPH period! I ride an electric bike and while wet have flown off of it twice so I have no desire to go faster. My #1 rule is no wet weather riding and #2 is to not go over 30-35 MPH. I am doing my research to see if I have any other gear options for this climate though.

      Hello Ray, they do make vented jackets which mine in the video is, nothing you wear will feel cool on super hot days that’s for sure. This scooter is capable of doing 60 mph plus possibly up to 70mph. I am told that it is possible to get close to 100 mpg although I wouldn’t know yet. It is a very nice scooter for sure, Venom has a $100 off program going right now too. Tell them Herbie sent you 😊

Sometimes people just don't fix these small issues and before they know it, there are 150 problems...lol. Thanks my friend! I heard from a very smart man a long time ago that if you don’t fix things on your vehicle as they break pretty soon you’ll be looking to buy another vehicle spending a ton of money and then the cycle will repeat. To save money, keep up on the small repairs and your older vehicle may last many years. I have never forgotten that

But I believe it is the speedometer ring and sensor for the speedometer. If you put the bike on the center stand and rev it up you can see the mph increase with the rear wheel movement even while the front wheel isn’t moving, that tells me it’s a for the speedometer. Thanks

    I realize this video is a little long in the tooth, but congrats on getting this Kawasaki running. It can be a challenge. I have a Hawk DLX EFI 250 that I bought brand new. It has about 10 miles on it, but the tubes were leaking air and the battery died. When I turn on the key, the fuel pump does not engage, which it a should. I was pretty unhappy, so I let it sit. Now I have new tubes and a new battery. This weekend I will go through it with a fine tooth comb. Watching your videos always provides some inspiration and motivation. • @herbiesgarage681
      @herbiesgarage681 6 днів тому

      Hello, is it turning over on its own with the ignition off, or starting on its own with the ignition off? If it’s turning over with the ignition off then a bad starter relay is what I would be looking at. The primary side of the relay would have to be stuck closed and that would spin the starter until the battery went dead I would think. If it’s actually starting on its own, I don’t even know if that is possible. Too many things would have to go bad at once for that to happen. Do you have a remote start added onto the bike?

    If you haven't yet, be sure to drain and change the oil it came with. Its a very cheap oil just meant to prevent rusting while in transport.

    • @herbiesgarage681
      @herbiesgarage681 8 днів тому

      Thanks, it’s been my experience with these Lifan bikes that the oil that gets shipped with the bike is good oil and I usually keep it in until about 35 miles until all the parts play together for a while. Then I drain it and refill with my favorite oil. In years past on my first bike I had shipped to me the oil in that bike was different and had an odd smell so I drained it immediately. That was about 8 bikes ago and 6 years ago. But honestly if you have any question about the oil then yes please do change the oil, it doesn’t take very much so it would be less than $10 in most cases. Thanks for the reply

    Hey, Herbie. I got my Ghost 250 a couple of weeks ago and I have been watching all of your videos about it, I even used the one where you explain how to do the oil change step by step. I got a question, why did you changed the chain? How does it affect? What are the improvements?

    • @herbiesgarage681
      @herbiesgarage681 9 днів тому

      Hi Mike, no particular reason, I like the RK made in Japan chains, I’ve always had good luck with them. It’s relatively inexpensive and if you’re going 70mph down the highway you want to make sure you have a good chain. The stock chain might be good but I didn’t have it on long. It’s pretty cheap insurance
