Trump and the Fall of American Primacy

Donald Trump’s election does not signal the end of the American-led post-war world order. That fiction faded long ago. His comeback invites the world to let go of a deadly American dream about its role in world history since 1945. Before that dream turns sour.

Scandal is the theme of the Nobel Laureates between 2010 and 2016. There was a scandal about the Committee’s choice of an American singer-songwriter and a Belorussian journalist. A sex scandal brewed inside the Committee. And there was the hidden abuse scandal of Alice Munro. The seven winners of this period were: 2010 Mario Vargas Llosa (b. 1936) Peru 2011 Tomas Tranströmer (1931-2015) Sweden ...

Many emotions that overwhelm us. In fear, we can freeze. Our hearts can turn to stone, as if we stared into a Gorgon. The most difficult of these events are unfolding in Israel, Gaza, and Palestine. If you take the number of fields someone is trying to unify with a single theory and plot that to how much of a crank they are , the scale is exponential. This guys is claiming to have essentially solved History, Economics, Biology, and Psychology (to name a few). The Crank factor is off the charts.
Hes the smartest homosexual vegan transhuman israeli
So I guess you red the tittles of his books and decided something (rumbling). This guy don't say nothing in concrete and it's way far from understanding what Harari is telling you. Harari is no merchant like the most on the internet trying to sell you pro or anti globalism propaganda, where we always find what are they selling. He is just someone with a very broad view of humanity (history plus present). He compares past human behaviour (from what we all agree were humanity marks) with an incredible knowledge of present humanity. You disagree with all his arguments by saying "well they are all history debates but mainly I think he is on the wrong side of all these debates"... what a stupid crap. What anybody that really want to understand what is the genious of Harari should know, is that along side with is really unbiased and good sense view and knowledge based on previous humanity experiences we can better understand what is happening on the present. You can say whatever the crap you want (based 0 arguments and rumbling crap), but he is not on your level for you to understand. His take on AI which it's much more than your can ever imagine (it's just not for your understanding), I work with AI and programming and the way he explains how the algorithmics are working and he can show you clearly differences and similarities with human behaviour, how this is taking a role on politics and on our present is really remarkable. You think he is talking about futurism because you don't understand the present (and let's be clear you never red his books). He never talks (actually he always avoid) about how it will be the future, he just shows you how we were used to do things and how things are are woking now (with very specific and real technology details). And I'm sorry but if you didn't get his take on how humans are storyteller's and create fictions like money and religion, and how this so clear way he showed our tendency to do this.. than your are clearly dumb... those are the arguments from Harari, not that rumblimg crap that says nothing on a video of 32 minutes (which really are a stupid way of earning money)
Ukraine must be neutral
You couldn't be any more polite about toilet paper.
He’s an Isreali psyop.
I'm reading a lot of far-right hate in the comments. I'm especially reading vague and incoherent attacks that are unconvincing. And those are also seen in the video. I tried to understand, but I wasn't persuaded by any fact. No proof of any crime done was presented. Calling someone a "fraud" simply due to their political ideology makes no sense.
Maybe the yanks shouldn’t have brutalised all of central and South America through coups, toppling democratically elected government and supporting murderous regimes for the past century+ if they didn’t want a tidal wave of refugees at your southern border. America deserves to collapse under the same horrors they have exported and imposed on so many countries.
U r stupid.....

9 minutes and the speaker is still hinting that there will be substance beyond intoning vague disapproval. With all due respect, this is a waste of time.

This harari guy has watched too many sci-fi movies.
he claims that "human rights don't exit since they began as abstract ideas". just about anything that humanity has done began as an abstract idea... i wonder what he thinks about the rights of the LGBTQ community, rights for which that community is still willing to sacrifice itself...
Great review. I bounced off his work because he is so declarative about his opinions
thanks. Yes, that style goes well for marketing, and not so well for providing insights to readers.
Nosferatu
You can't keep outlining what he says and then saying "I'm not sure it's not an old western view, that has evolved since." and not go at all into what exactly is wrong about it. I'm sure it is, but I'm not finding it out by listening to you here.
fair enough... check out some of my other videos that explore those different perspectives
@@theburningarchive OK, I might. Any one in particular?
I really like Yuval Noah Harari. Seems like a genuinely good dude.
You are doing literally the same thing you accuse Snyder of doing. You haven't given anything to deconstruct his arguments except for some vague gestures to adding morals to history (literally every historian has moral qualms about their subjects, it's called being human). All this video does is point to signifiers of pro-Ukraine, pro-NATO, and anti-Trump stances and assume that's enough to discredit him. Those aren't arguments, that's just an appeal to your own political tribalism, which is much closer to the definition of propaganda than anything of what you have quoted Snyder to have said. At one point you're literally psychoanalyzing him, a person you haven't even met. How do you call yourself a historian? Thank you for making this video, as now I know to avoid your videos and scholarship in the future.
Yall legitimately belive this stuff? That Vladimir Putin is not a tyrant?
Hi Jeff. I love your videos and books that you recommend but sometimes (often, to be honest) I feel I lack knowledge to understand it. Could you please make a video about world history books 101, what to read, some textbooks of good quality? A lot of ideology in history so maybe direct us how to choose authors, give as some names. Thank you very much and keep going! Your channel is a gem!
Great idea. I will do. It might be a few weeks. Thanks for the idea.
I read two of this guys books on vacation once and it actually ruined like 4 whole days of the trip for me. He's somehow even more annoying than Graham Hancock because the mainstream actually takes him seriously.
Thanks
Many thanks
Thank you for this really thoughtful review; really happy to see how accessible you managed to keep it! I completely agree with the summary that Harari's history is more of a manifestation of his politics and attitude than interest and empathy with the peoples and cultures of the past. Also worth noting that with such a long timescale to work with, Harari has plenty of examples to pick from to support his drab and pessimistic views on humanity and human nature. I find the pessimism and determinism a particularly disappointing aspect of his work, since what I find so rewarding about historical scholarship is the discovery that all times and all cultures were alive with possibility, with difficult questions and choices, with tragedies and celebrations, with fear and with hope--that the world we live in today was not necessarily so.
Thank you

RFK Jnr and the fall of American Pharmacies.
I feel a video on the problems of health in the USA may be a good idea. RFK has some big challenges and I doubt he has the capability to handle them. What do you think?
@@theburningarchive Well, who knows? Kennedy has written a book on the subject. I just think we are for the most part over-medicated, especially Americans. I felt that the pandemic was rather suspect and saw little need to take a novel vaccine. Reading about the mode of action of the mRNA shot, I wasn't reassured that it was 'safe and effective.' I thought to myself, there's no way my GP or the nurse administering the shot could explain much about this to me. But, in the meantime, where was the pandemic? I saw litte evidence around me other than the media hullabaloo. I advised family members to hold back on the shots. Wait to see what happens, I told them. After all, the media and the politicians were making it sound as if the Black Death had returned to our shores.
@@theburningarchive Here's a man worth listening to on American society and American health-care. Paul Craig Roberts. He served in some capacity in the Bush senior administration. He paints a very bleak picture of American society and American health care. But for Roberts, the problem lies much deeper. ua-cam.com/video/MHxIdYa8hT8/v-deo.html
(Please fix the high pitched noise on your mic.) Skip to 22:20 for actual critique, but the points are as follows: 1) He's Reductionistic 2) He's often seen as arrogant or haughty. 3) His historical narrative lacks details and is more motivated by his philosophical inclinations than by the complex web of facts that other historians deal in. 4) There are other historians who have done similar and better analysis of the same topics.
Stumbled on your channel, liked the first two videos I saw, now this - and I’m off again. Bye.
G-man?
In today and age no matter how well you do something, there will be haters there to hate you, 😂
You're just a hater 😂
Every time I watch another rumble on the holocaust in the context of this conflict, it truly sickens me. We jews will never be forgiven for being sacrificed to the false gods of the NZs, people like you would like to "put us in our place", of the perpetual existence of dependency on the "good will" of others. No. This is our land, our home, we have tried extensively coming to a peace agreement with the islamists, but there is no coexistence with this ideology. And I'm speaking of Islamists and the barbaric Arab-Russian-iranian coalition of backwardnes, not Muslims or Islam in general. Those could be reformed one day, but that vision is far from coming into being. The world used to know many wars, and we will have many more in the future, I'm assured. Well, maybe the west will, if you'll grow up of your insane fantasies of a world where barbarics are just some far away dream. Hamas hides behind their own, touring them with disastrous fighting strategy. Maybe you should read some more on different veiw points on the issue, rather virtue signaling by abusing the tragedy of My people and family. Shame on you! I don't expect to persuade you or anyone, really, but this injustice is so infuriating, I must oppose it. Every single death in Gaza is on hamas, we will not stop fighting just because the terrorists provide you with your desired snuff content.
You sound like a talking corpse.
Harari is way beyond your depth. You should not be judging him. Have you read *Nexus*?
My favourite part of the video is the comment section in which some random folks are goingà off like "he is the lowest amoeba like airhead I've ever crossed path with and is a greedy capitalist-tech-bro-transhumanism-god-complex-also-somehow-communist pseudo intelectual. And is weird too. Jesus are you ok people 😂 there was a whole video with balanced critique, you refer to the guy like he is brain dead zombie who can't hold a pen, yet alone write a book.
It's very funny. I am from Taiwan. If the US really considers itself the champion of freedom and democracy, why doesn't it come down hard on the ruling DPP party for all its anti-democratic, anti rule-off-law, corrupt, kleptocratic, fraudulent, and non-transparent governance? It seems that as long as the DPP is anti-China, it can get the blessing from the US for all its criminal behaviors.
Good point. And indeed Taiwan was at best a very flawed democracy from 1949 until the late 1980s, while the USA supported the Government that claimed to be the true government of all those Chinese people on the mainland. Has support for DPP declined at all over the last year?
very well said, well done. USA interference with Australia in the 1970s, the overthrow of the Australian government, USA support of Indonesia in the UN, and the USA instigated friction between Australia and Indonesia. The almost 40 billion dollar trade deficit, etc. Australians are very unaware of how aggressive and manipulative USA has been to Australia.
thank you
But that would increase the chance that the US and China fall into Thucydides trap as it involves a declining power and a rising power
I don't believe the Thucydides Trap is a real thing. It is based on very shoddy history. George Yeo from Singapore recently gave a talk explaining how disconnected it was from Asian diplomatic history. I will do a video on this topic early next year.
if you think Harari's opinions on ai and transcending humanity is controversial, then you are living under a rock
*WW1 was the biggest US "regime change operation" in history.* "If the Allies at the peace table at Versailles had allowed a Hohenzollern, a Wittelsbach and a Habsburg to return to their thrones, there would have been no Hitler." Winston Churchill, 26th April 1946 That short statement practically has "regime change" written all over it. That short statement also makes it clear what happens if one removes the gatekeepers (monarchy) of a political system from power, which then opens the door for all kinds of ideologues. They thought they could throw out the monarchs, and morph Germany into becoming "more like us" (old Roman technique of power), and there would be no consequences. Whatever they thought, one thing is clear: US think tanks who wrote the 14 Points Speech KNEW they were far enough away from Europe not to have to face any consequences should their own suggestions combined with the invariably following top-down implementations result in blowback (causality). So what had led Churchill to make such a statement? As part of the 14-Point Plan, Wilson demanded that Germany de-throne Wilhelm II, before any peace talks could begin. The Allies also refused a German delegation as part of the peace talks in 1919. WW1 was the USA's hitherto biggest "regime change operation" (Germany). Because here is what they tell you is history in thousands and thousands of books and docs: the "German people" or "German leaders" were the ones who "forced Wilhelm II into exile, or " forced the autocrats to abdicate because they were angry" or variations of that. Here is what they (usually) don't say (lie by omission): That it was the own side which had previously coerced other German leaders like Max von Baden into forcing the German government out of office, because that was a condition for armistice negotiations to take place. Here is the timeline of events: 1) Coerce German leaders to topple the current Berlin government. 2) German leaders realizing there was no alternative to stop the war, topple the current government. 3) Omit step 1) for the "narrative of WW1", or pretend it never happened, and then "write history" that pleases the own feelings by simply pinning the flag on the timeline, saying that the history of that event started on "day x". In order to find out what really happened, an interested history fan would have to delve into very specific books that cover the entire series of events, to find out the details. But, who does that? From the primary source: "The President would deem himself lacking in candor did he not point out in the frankest possible terms the reason why extraordinary safeguards must be demanded. Significant and important as the constitutional changes seem to be which are spoken of by the German Foreign Secretary in his note of the 20th of October, it does not appear that the principle of a government responsible to the German people has yet been fully worked out or that any guarantees either exist or are in contemplation that the alterations of principle and of practice now partially agreed upon will be permanent. Moreover, it does not appear that the heart of the present difficulty has been reached. It may be that future wars have been brought under the control of the German people, but the present war has not been; and it is with the present war that we are dealing. It is evident that the German people have no means of commanding the acquiescence of the military authorities of the empire in the popular will; that the power of the King of Prussia to control the policy of the empire is unimpaired; that the determining initiative still remains with those who have hitherto been the masters of Germany. Feeling that the whole peace of the world depends now on plain speaking and straightforward action, the President deems it his duty to say, without any attempt to soften what may seem harsh words, that the nations of the world do not and cannot trust the word of those who have hitherto been the masters of German policy, and to point out once more that in concluding peace and attempting to undo the infinite injuries and injustices of this war the Government of the United States cannot deal with any but veritable representatives of the German people who have been assured of a genuine constitutional standing as the real rulers of Germany." Source: International Notes: Diplomatic Notes, Prepared By Allan Westcott, Ph. D., Instructor, U. S. Naval Academy, November 1918 Proceedings Vol. 44/11/189 *Washington DC power mongers employ old Roman techniques of power, including the "morphing" of systems which favor the own ideological expansionist goals, and one of these old Roman techniques is divide-and-rule. In the past, and as one of the Big Three at Versailles, they covertly set up Europe for failure, masked behind overt expressions of "fighting for freedom and democracy." In reality, Versailles was a covert implementation of the divide and rule technique. Not only Germany was divided, but also Europe was divided with a ruling.* This strategy is often misunderstood, in popular narratives composed mostly of "being friends" even though it only means that one can gain greatly if others are divided and fail. It is as simple as that. "Friends" or "enemies" play no role: if others fail, the own systems gain. After Europe failed, the final domino stone Washington DC actively toppled was the British Empire. After two world wars, with countless emerging struggles in the colonies, so by 1945 the already seriously weakened and overextended Great Britain was an easy pushover...
Very interesting argument. I will look at this in the context of my reading of WW1 at a later point. Generally I find Churchill highly unreliable in interpreting the history of the 20th century.
@theburningarchive Thank you for considering, and regards. The "14 Points Speech" was co-written by The Inquiry, a New York-based think tank. Exactly which percentage was penned by Wilson can never be known, only the strategy of power: "To let others do the work, and then take credit" (Robert Greene). The 14 Points were of course based on geopolitical realities of "area denial" (grand strategy). The Holy Roman Empire had to be "buried" behind a torrent of words (Treaty of Versailles, and other minor treaties). A short recap of the final stages of this 1,000-year struggle between Paris and Berlin/Vienna, with ever-changing terminoly (geopolitical reality = _Central European unity_ set up against _France,_ "the cape of Europe" per de Gaulle). Within the framework of European history, post-1800 as recent relevant past. 1806 - France "won" (alliance system) 1815 - Berlin "won" (part of an off continentally led alliance) 1815 to 1871 - comprehensive European security agreement intact (Concert of Europe) 1815 to 1871 - Berlin limited wars "balanced" the natural growth of Russia 1871 - France "lost" again (status quo) 1918/19 - France "won" (part of an off continental alliance system) 1940 - France "lost" 1944/45 - France won (part of an off continentally led alliance system) Post 1945 - Berlin finally lost (status quo today)
To meddle, instigate, and lay a foundation for crises/wars has been the Western prerogative ever since forever. Why do you think Native Americans called these expansive warmogers "speaking with forked tongues"? (aka doublespeak aka lying). They do unto others what these warmongers would never consider acceptable if done unto them. If there is a REaction, they employ their hordes to "point fingers"... *These warmongers are the exact opposite of their Holy Book, and they are proud of their lies and deceit.* The USA/collective West is inundated with individuals who cannot, and will never, see the truth, which is that they've lain the foundations of every single crisis/war they have ever fought in. Most of our history is too narrow, and can only serve as data to figure out the big picture. After around 1900, Europe lost its top tier position as global leaders because their leaders could not find a suitable balance of power between the states, which was equally acceptable for all. Note that with Versailles and many other bad choices, ALL Europeans lost. WW1 and WW2 was one struggle which roots go back a 1,000 years: the battle for continental supremacy between France and The Holy Roman Empire, with Russia off to one side of that, and Great Britain off to the other. This is how the quote "peace for 20 years" (Foch) should be interpreted. *WW1 and WW2 was simply another "30 years war" with the difference being that the naval powers (GB and the USA) stepped in and supported France as the "favored nation" as a proactive divide-and-rule strategy of intended global control and domination (see footnote).* In the end ALL Europeans lost and became subjected to the American Century, whose post-WW2 Truman Doctrine was simply more divide-and-rule, to drive a rift between Europeans. After the Cold War this "rift" was simply "ruled" to be further east, and the desirable status quo of "Europeans set up against each other per outside ruling" was moved a few hundred miles eastwards. The new "Iron Curtain" which soon be declared, under some or other fancy term. Read Mackinder (1904), which found its logical continuation with the post-WW2 Truman Doctrine, and Churchill's Iron Curtain. ------------- Footnote: My sincere thanks to a fellow youtuber (@realvipul) who thought my one of essays explaining the divide-and-rule/conquer strategy of power was "TLDR" or too complicated and therefore ran it through AI... "The comment discusses the concept of "divide and rule" as a strategy employed by powerful entities to maintain control. It argues that human systems are inherently chaotic due to the complexity of human nature, making them susceptible to manipulation through division. The example of the Roman Empire's conquest of Britain around the year "0" is used to illustrate how this strategy works, emphasizing that the motivations of individual collaborators are less important than the overall effect of division in enabling the empire's dominance. The comment then extends this analysis to the American Century, suggesting that the same strategy was used to exert influence over Europe. It highlights that the goal is to create maximum division among opposing groups while maintaining unity within the ruling power. The comment criticizes the media and political leaders for perpetuating a cycle of lies and wars, often under the guise of opposing territorial expansion while simultaneously promoting systemic expansion. In essence, the comment argues that the "divide and rule" strategy is a fundamental tactic employed by powerful entities to maintain control, and that understanding this strategy is crucial for comprehending historical events and current geopolitical dynamics."
I am livestock born captive to the empire which is better than being born free on something the empire wants to take.
