Love listening to you Jeff Rich. Makes me want to make time to read/listen to some of these literary efforts.

I wish to have a lot of money and a French Chateau in a Swiss Alps
I would open a salon for the intellectuals to converse and listen to opera.

Of the list covered here, Bertrand Russell is my favourite. He is approachable, easy to read, and has a clear moral centre in his life and work.

It's depressing how much literary culture was shaped by the Cold War - thanks for highlighting those connections. I've recently also been watching videos by a scholar who's writing a book on how the CIA shaped the world of influential French philosophers who are often seen as "leftists." It's as if the Cold War were a giant magnet that distorted everyone's thinking in order to maintain the illusion that the USSR was nothing but an evil empire.
By the way, your title card for Mauriac says "Claude Mauriac."

Thanks for pointing out the typo. Claude Mauriac was his brother (and son!) who were also authors. My mistake. Send me a link to the video on the scholar writing the book on CIA influence. Many thanks for the comments

Russeo, the pacifist 😂😂😂, he did advocate a nuclear extermination of all Soviets. Typical 😊
