Bristol Channel Summer Fishing- Bass Fishing In WILD Seas!
Myself and pal Joe Thompson headed for the Somerset reefs on a particularly windy day to target bass. Things went nicely to plan even though the weather was pretty upside down. A big sea encouraged the fish to feed and despite the conditions we were faced with it was an enjoyable few hours by the sea!

Bristol Channel Fishing- EVERYTHING You Need To Know (who doesn't do tip 4?)
Переглядів 22 тис.2 роки тому
The Bristol Channel features many fantastic venues that can produce some excellent fish, but they are often snaggy and take some thinking about to get the most out of them. There are however some clever ways to make life a whole lot easier and drastically increase your chances of catching the fish you target. As always, I love to hear your feedback and if there’s anything that you feel I have m...
Bristol Channel Fishing- BIG Smoothhound And Other Species
Переглядів 7 тис.2 роки тому
Over the course of a week, as is often the case around this time, I made the time to search for smoothhounds. My client, Joe Thompson, had enquired some time ago about a session to target these fantastic fighting fish and as you'll see, he wasn't to be disappointed. Join Joe and I as we set about hitting the target and bump in to another friend along the way.

Chesil Beach Plaice Fishing- April 2022
Переглядів 10 тис.2 роки тому
This video tells the tale of a spring trip to Chesil Beach to target the resident plaice population. As you will see, the weather was very British to say the least! Thankfully the plaice were keen to feed and for the majority of the session, the sun shone.
Bristol Channel Fishing- Spring 2022, Beware The East Wind

When weather conditions are not what you expect them to be, what is the outcome? See how I fare on one of the channel's more picturesque marks during a spring time session when the weather was far from spring-like. Special thanks to my good friend, Michael Constantino, all the way from Nashville for his beautiful guitar work on this episode.

Bristol Channel Fishing- Beautiful Venues And BIG Fish (Eventually)

Join me as I fish for summer smoothhounds and winter bull huss on the lower reaches of the Bristol Channel coast at two spectacular locations. The first half of this video was shot in June of 2021 and although the fishing was slow, this was until recently the last opportunity I had to put a video together. As you’ll see, the winter fishing session more than made up for this with numerous fish c...
Bristol Channel Beach Fishing- An Easy Summer's Evening Venue
Переглядів 11 тис.3 роки тому
The Bristol Channel isn't all about tackle hungry rock marks and fast tides. This video focusses on a recent guided session where myself and client Jon enjoyed a very relaxing session on an empty beach bathed in warm evening sunshine. As with any fishing experience, there are many sights to behold along the way.....
Bristol Channel Fishing- Almost Beaten By The Bass
Переглядів 34 тис.3 роки тому
When a change in weather conditions over night meant a session at a certain mark wasn't favourable, I ditched my plan that involved returning to my original venue, adapted my thinking, grabbed the bass rod and headed out to somewhere that I was certain would produce the goods. This one really is a show of two halves, in many ways.
Bristol Channel Bass Fishing- Early Summer Fun In The Sun
Переглядів 16 тис.3 роки тому
When an open coast bass foray failed to produce the goods and every single bait seemed to be intercepted by small codling, I changed tactics and headed for a venue tucked out of the main run of tide in an effort to avoid these nuisance fish. Joined by my friend John Drury, we enjoyed some tremendous sport on light tackle and actually managed to avoid the codling altogether.
Bristol Channel Sea Fishing- Spectacular Weather Session At A Unique Place
Переглядів 25 тис.3 роки тому
Faced with one of the biggest tides of the year and a few free hours to head out on to the craggy coast of the Bristol Channel, I decided to edge my bets on an old haunt of yesteryear. It was a joy to experience what were once familiar surroundings again and to simply let myself become immersed in the glorious sunshine. In stark contrast, the second part of the video shows how conditions can ch...

The conger behaves a damn sight better than Anguilla Anguilla !
awsome video, cracking bass fella.
Why do you have your real at the bottom? I cannot understand why everyone seems to be changing to having their real at the bottom. I’m disabled and in a wheelchair and I just don’t understand. Please let me know.
@@PaulRea-w3c Using the reel at the bottom makes a powerful rod feel softer, snd so easier to compress and cast. It also frees up your stronger right hand to concentrate on the cast. This is nothing new, anglers have been doing this for at least the last 30 years.
Great video. One thing. I think you missed an important part of multiplier reel classification that could confuse thru ommission. Most of us slightly older sea anglers would grade multipliers on the basis of 5000 or 6000 or 7000 sized reels. More specifically an ABU 5000 or 5500 would be a baitcaster type (eg small/lures or Salmon spinning), an ABU 6500 would be your go to all round reel (optimum tournament casting distance and light to medium beach), then the ABU 7000 or 7500 reel ( heavy duty / rougher ground but doesnt cast as far as 6500). So the Daiwa 6RM or 6HM tallied with the Abu 6500 Ambassadeur Rocket or Mag Elite. The Daiwa 7HT is bigger nearly equating to to the ABU Ambassadeur 7000CT or 7500CS The now popular PENN Casting Special II are probably best classed as 6800 or there abouts on this scale. ie heavier duty and definitely rough ground but very good casters. Abu would then do the old Ambassadeur 8000 or 9000 for boat work. Superb reels in their day so smooth. I just dont recognise the 20 / 30 / 40 / 50 sizes you cited. I think it is a recognition of the Penn SLOSH20 ( equiv to 6500) and SLOSH30 ( equiv to ABU7000/7500) but most old skool tackle shops would still ask you if you want a '6000/6500' sized or a '7000/7500' sized reel meaning do you want a light-medium beach but full distance caster .....or a heavier rougher ground reel.
That took some reading, but you’re quite right, I decided to keep things very simple in this video. Thanks for the comment!

How do you rate your Smock
Just come across this video what a great video indeed May i ask what mark this was I'm in south wales
Brilliant videos. I like to wait for him to say in all his videos “ I think it’s weed” before pulling out a fish. 😂
Brilliant informative video 👍🏼
Would you be able too tell me what beach this please
can someone explain 6:14 how do you get the swviel of you rig and the line into the clip, without tying a knot
You tie a link to the end of your shock leader at home, to save doing it on the beach. You then clip the swivel of the rig on to the clip that you have tied on to the end of the shock leader.
Well done you covered all the basics, still waiting to see the flouro rod tapes in the dark. cheers
Those bullhuss are pretty looking fish
I'm going to Minehead in a couple of months just to spend a week fishing, can anyone recommend two decent quality fixed spool reels, roughly costing around £70 each. I want something that will hold plenty of mono rather than braid. In fact any tackle info would be good as I haven't bought anything yet, need couple decent rods too.
Hi Matt, something like this would be ideal. You don’t need anything too fancy if you’re new to the sport🙂🎣 www.veals.co.uk/product/sonik-dominator-xs-10000-surf-reel/?aff=27
@thegamblingangler thanks for taking the time to answer buddy, I'd actually been looking at sonik reels already so I'm gonna buy a couple. Also could you recommend a couple of decent rods for the Bristol channel roughly £100 each. I plan to start doing a bit of sea fishing when I get my driving licence sorted.
Great vid, thanks, What rods and reels did you use?
I'm gonna be booking a week at st,Audries, Minehead in a month or so. I'd be really grateful if anyone could tell me the best sort of dates for smooth hounds and catching some conger, thank you so very much for anyone who replies, I've never been to the Bristol channel before and haven't even sea fished for years but I really don't want to pay for a weeks caravan to spend a full day not catching anything cos the only reason for going is the fishing.
Thanks for the info, what mark is that you are fishing Bristol? 😊
can I ask if you return these fish alive?
Yes they were returned, but I’m intrigued why you ask?
Great vid Jensen,,,same everywhere salmon,seatrout cod,,all killed /poisioned by humans,sad really,
Where is this
Hi great video where can you park for that beach please
Legend 👍
Great video, Where was this?
you make a lot of sense, cheers
These guys are amazing, always order off VMO, they give you great advice on tackle, and phone you back for requirements. Top guys.
What tides and times do you recommend fishing the south side of sand point? Live your vids btw
Whats the name of the clip you have for holding rotten bottom to the splash down clip bud?
Look up RBC on Veals Mail Order website 🙂
Nice video! What camera are you using to film? Thanks
The good old Go Pro🙂
me and my brother michael and ron at night in december in 1991 at chesil beach it was very cold all we got was pouting
ive now got serious mental health issues but i used to love this kind of fishing and at chesil beach in 1991
Just got another sub, been watching and learning, great content m8😊
Hi buddy, only fished the channel once, fast tides their, but good fish
Thanks 😊
Just found your channel, Great video. When that rod tip went over i thought did he have a coffee in one hand & a sandwich in the other?. Amount of times that's happened to me in the past.
That's how it goes sometimes at least it wasn't a blank and a nice little Ray.
Yes, that pain of watching the fish before it goes. Worse than a dear John lol 😆
Great session mate , I'm thinking of fishing Bristol channel June time would like to catch huss, rays conger or whatever may be about that time of year . Any suggestions on where to fish would be very much appreciated, not seen any new material from you hope your fit and well . Again top angling by you
If it’s rays you want, the upper part of the Bristol Channel around Weston will be full of thornback. For huss, I’d try Porlock after dark with big baits not too far out. All good, just haven’t the time right now to make more videos🎣
I thought after the rain the channel wouldve become quite quite brackish. Is that true or my inexperience? I've blanked after heavy rains before and was told as such, advice welcome
Yes, the upper channel can become difficult after heavy rain and it also washes a lot of grass and debris out of the rivers. Never ideal fishing conditions!
Cracking video once again mate and a nice codling...the cod have declined over the years due to the government stopping the sewage being disgarded through the Bristol channels sewage pipes...this meant the rag beds diclining rapidly so no natural food on the sea bed for the cod to feed on....plus you got the trawlers mopping up the small codling so there's no reproduction..we used to catch cod in abundance down cardiff foreshore back 15 years ago
Lovely vid. Let’s us northerners see how things are done down south.
I see so many anglers fishing for bass with the rod in a tripod like this and missing a lot of bites. A light weight bass rod is made to be held. Touch ledgering is the way to go for bass.
It is nice to hold the rod, but when fishing two it’s not practical. Hook up rate is probably 80-90% and I’m happy enough with that🙂🎣
@@thegamblingangler I agree, it's not a technique for two rods...although I sometimes put a second rod in the tripod as a bonus on occasions. However, I'm mostly using the one rod and roving. If a bass picks up my bait I usually know about it before he does. If they pick up your bait and spit it before you get to the tripod they rarely return in my experience. This is exactly what happened in this video. Your hook up rate was 50%.
@@graemeelliott8276 Great videos by the way. I really enjoy them all.
I need to go there where is it Jensen
Hi Jensen can you give me any advice on spots to fish the Bristol channel in say June, July or August . Hopefully to fish many species and especially huss . Planning a few days trip this year tyvm mate top angling
A nice bass and what a shame the first one got away. A very nice video well done 👍
I know the channel and its spots very well. I love your fishing vids. The throw offs get me at the beginning 😉.. I guess no one likes to give away there favourite marks
