How to Prepare the Authentic Wasabi for Sushi by Michelin Sushi Chef
My grandmother was very firm about correct table manners and etiquette. It was one of the biggest compliments I ever received when she said that I had the best table manners in the family. Manners are about respect for your surroundings and the other people you are sharing time with. While they differ from place to place, the theme of having consideration for others is constant. Some customs may seems silly to the uninitiated, but it is never foolish to show the proper level of respect. Thank you for sharing Master Chef.
I wasn't going to post, but seeing that you are still answering comments changed my mind; I would like to show some appreciation. I learned a lot through your video; And apologize for all those uneducated comments... I'm terribly ashemed by them.
salem9862-san Thanks for taking the time to watch my video and beautiful comments. We respect the ideas of others and understand that we will get disagreements! I am very glad that we were able to help you to think about that. Thank you for watching!:)
Sounds like I’ll stick to my Costco sushi 😂
too much stress that will adversely affect my taste buds.
❤
Thank you for watching!💙
This reminds of the rules we had at family lamb roast.
Wow! Thanks for watching and sharing your sweet memories! :)
Pedantic nonsense. You can't drink tea unless your pinkie is extended just so.
🙂
Thanks for watching! :)
I'll use the head as a beanie hat.
Haha! Thanks for watching! :)
lol, some of these are ridiculous. Don't let the air escape? Sense the taste with your hands? BWUAHAHAHA! Pretentious and silly.
Have you ever eaten in a 1 star Michelin restaurant or how can you tell it is ridiculous?
Lisa is not a Mexican cooking it or making it
This is the dumbest shot I've seen.
yes you paid for the sushi, but that doesn't mean have bad manners. Yes, you paid for your burger, but don't open your mouth and smack your lips when you eat it. Because you can't do anything you want in public if It ruins other people's enjoyment of the restaurant. to be courteous of others is not a hard ask.
Great perspective. Thanks!
when you first got the octopus ,did you salt it ,to get the slime off.
Excellent question. In high-end sushi, there is a process often called Shikomi, which in the case of octopus, involves placing it in boiling salted water and immediately cooling it to bring out its genuine flavor!
Great video man, my favourite fish to eat when I was living in Japan. Love from Australia ❤
Every region has it's own customs. For example, the chef in this video was taught that sushi should not be manipulated with chopsticks (that prohibition is not customary in many locations). The one binding element is a show of respect. Do things respectfully and every rookie mistake you make can be forgiven.
Salmon doesn’t contain parasites??! How we know it’s clean for eating?❤
becdause you clean with rice vinager and after put into fridge and leave it there for 3-7 days. then a few more things to do. there will be no parasiites after these
Every culture has its own way of etiquette at the table. Learning these habits shows respect and understanding of others. Think of table manners like traffic rules. They may be different in each country, but they keep everything running smoothly. Let’s keep it simple.
Mkail00-san Superb! Thanks for watching!
Yeah I'm not gonna take off my rolex at the sushi counter and hope I dont forget it after getting drunk from drinking a bottle of Dassai 23 and a few pours of Yamazaki 18
I took off my Jacob & co watch off and just put it in my front pocket for courtesy but mostly so no one got any ideas if you know what I mean
If the chef worries about a watch or jewellery would damage the bench top or fittings, then what about long sleeve shirts with metal cuff buttons or fashionable metallic baggy pants with chains and big metal zippers. They would be sharper than a watch bands or straps. At the end of the day, only allow T shirts, shorts and slippers would be safe. 😂
I got my hands on a Columbia River King salmon fillet today. On sale for $11.99 per pound. The fillet was 5.9 pounds, and will make some GREAT sushi! (the only way like salmon). The color is a natural red, so I'm betting it'll be *GREAT!*
Ridiculous. I am paying the restaurant to prepare food for me, so I should eat the way I want to as long as I am not reasonably bothering anyone. Sometimes the Japanese unnecessarily overdo things.
Thank you for your comment, each situation of eating Sushi and each chef has his/her own way.
@fdama This is the commonly expected etiquette for high-end sushi restaurants in Japan. If you're visiting one of those, it is best to follow the chef's suggestions here. Otherwise I feel you will be disrespecting not only the restaurant but the other customers as well. If you are eating at sushi restaurants outside of Japan, or at more casual places even within Japan, then of course there are different expectations.
@@samuraisushispirits2151You are the guest at the restaurant and are supposed to behave as such.
What a load of nonsense. Eat sushi anyway you like. You are paying for it.
Thank you for your comment, each situation of eating Sushi and each chef has his/her own way.
Manners are important and all of those manners explained have to do something with respect. Eating the food the way the chef intended means respecting him and his craft and art. Does it hurt you to just follow those simple rules if being asked for?

where did you get the plate chef? what is it called?
Where do you get those tweezers?
Thanks for watching!! It is called "hone-nuki" and can be found in Amazon etc. :) www.amazon.co.jp/gp/bestsellers/kitchen/2250013051
"Excuse me chef, but do you mind if my friend takes a picture of me planking on the sushi before I eat it?"
It's a special situation, but it may be OK with your friend's approval.
Thanks a lot for this explanation! I'm a 31 years old guy from Italy very passionate about sushi! I'm trying a lot of times but I think I make a mistake after the Oke mixing session: rice seems to have too much vinegar. How much time i have to rest the rice before use? Thanks a lot again! Best wishes!
Do you take your wedding ring off too?
This video is intended to share the culture and is not mandatory. If it is something you love, you don't necessarily have to take it. Thank you for your comment!
Are his hands cleaned at all? Playing with the piece of fish.....yuck. And the color of the toro is so pale. 🤮
Thank you so much I’m taking your course when I can
How is this video has so little views ? Thank you chef it was exactly what I was looking for and your work will not go unoticed
worse I've ever seen
The egg is not supposed to to have color on it it’s similar to a French omelette.
Thanks for your comment. We'll improve that.
I see it with color all the time in japan, some of the best ones ive had have been this way.

I cooked octopus lastweek for the first time, it was like rubber
That's good! as you commented, octopus has very unique texture;)
Too much sugar and salt. Also pan was way too hot and not enough oil was used.

@@moskito5864 Wow Danke schön to you!! Glad to hear your amazing comment :)
Love it
Glad to hear that! thanks!!
I thought he would use a donabe for cooking the rice.
I'm sorry but this is borderline ridiculous. There are no set in stone "rules" to eating sushi. Sushi was originally a street food and not meant to be some kind of pretentious "dining experience" fettered with arbitrary rules and traditions. Sushi is food and should be enjoyed by the diner the way they choose to consume it. Real sushi chefs do take great pride in their craft and want you to enjoy their creations and couldn't care less if you did or didn't follow some silly protocols while dining.
"real" sushi chefs do care. Literally everything other than using hand vs chopsticks is common courtesy for the people you are sitting next to. Don't be an asshole.
WRONG
@@kidathlete Sure, you must be the sushi police
@@Alsry1 Nice try genius. Go to any sushi bar in town and put the soy sauce on the rice instead of the fish and see how many chefs throw you out. Don't pretend to know everything about "Sushi culture" and stop being a pretentious a$$hole.
a guy named Todd Davis feels the need to correct a video on sushi eating etiquette as informed by a michelin starred sushi chef. the death of expertise indeed. youre right though, nobody is kicking you out of the strip mall sushi express in waukesha, wisconsin if you dont remove your watch at the table. however for a michelin starred dining experience in japan, these would likely be considered "best practices" for that specific environment and culture. now if you would like to make a video on the preferred etiquette at an arby's drive through, i would be much more interested in deferring to your expertise on the matter
Simmering 2 and half hours ?😮
What is proper bathroom etiquette at sushi restaurant?
If you have chopsticks, place correctly on holder. Politely excuse yourself to the chef. Quietly step off your seat. Using both hands, clutch your buttocks. Proceed to run with high knees to the bathroom while shouting the name of your lord and saviour. Make Gojira proud.
@@PhilipPatterson-yf1mb politely excuse yourself to the chef??? Is the chef your customer or are you?
