Thanks for your upload. I too had my struts break , not with the tent pitched ( in driving rain and wind where the tent performed very well ) but afterwards when I went home to air it out and I noticed the fractured strut. I contacted Zpacks who immediately sent me a pair of double ( each thinner ) white struts about 6 weeks ago. The double struts were taped tightly together and Zpacks told me to use the taped pair as a single rod. I noticed yours are single larger struts. Zpacks are still field testing the Plexamid so I would like to know what struts they finally come up with. They said they would inform all Plexamid users about this. Appreciate you have put this up.
It is interesting how I have a different set of struts than you. I read on the ultralight reddit about people getting double struts. When mine came they were definitely thicker. We must all be beta testers for the new strut solution. I’m hoping these thicker rods hold up.
@@trevordixon347 Yes true. Zpacks told me that the double struts they sent me haven't failed. But then I saw your thicker single strut. So it has left a question only Zpacks can answer. Which is the best strut ? I haven't tested the new double strut but will tonight with some bad weather coming. I have a lot of their gear and I'm very impressed as I'm impressed with their customer service. So we will just have to wait for that answer.
Great video. Both my struts broke on my second backpacking trip. I have no idea why or when. They sent me the same struts you received and they lasted a little longer, but eventually broke again. This time though, it tore a little bit of my tent. Emailed Zpacks and they sent me the same white colored ones again and some tape to cape up the tear. In their email, they said they are testing these struts. As mentioned by someone else, I have this feeling we are also testing the new rods. I really like the tent. I'm debating about cutting a thin metal rode (thicker than closer hanger) to length and using that. I know carbon fiber is stronger, but I think metal will have more give before it breaks.
A Real I feel the same way about using a metal rod, it should have more give before it breaks. My replacement struts are holding up well so far, the real test comes next week when I head out on a week long trip.
Hi , Zpacks will be releasing pre curved titanium struts in early October and will send them to all Plexamid owners with an instructional video. So all good by Zpacks. Their customer relations are 1st class. BTW the double white struts they sent me are still OK. How are the ones they sent you? All the best
Yes, the latest from Joe is that the titanium struts are on the way. They will add about 0.8 oz. My white ones are working so far, so I'm gonna keep these in for now...
Very cool they got it sorted, so far my olive replacements have been working great. Slept about 10 nights and through some pretty decent wind and rain. Other than the struts I absolutely love this tent so far. Perfect size for 1 plus gear.
had the same issues with old style rods. customer service was great, they offered to upgrade me to the duplex since having 3 sets of rods failed.

@@trevordixon347 Good to hear that. I love the tent as well. Still waiting for the mail out though.
Trevor Dixon yes I agree! It’s a great tent. Lots of room
