Chauncey Freeman's Japanese Inspired Garden Part 1
01:55 Entry Plants
05:44 Design Concept
06:35 Tree Creatures
10:40 Fire & Water
13:02 Eggs
18:45 Reflections
When you think you have seen all the incredible gardens in your town, think again! It was such a joy to get to climb the driveway and explore the garden behind the ivy-slope! I cannot believe what Chauncey Freeman has achieved.
This is in Eugene, Oregon, Zone 8, filmed in Early November.
Chauncey's well-balanced placement of so many different textures, colors, and shapes shows his astute understanding of his craft as a Landscape Architect. The spaces he has created for R&R in the garden are absolutely perfect - Inviting, comfortable, well-lit, sprinkled with a little bit of whimsey. I am so in awe!

For a deeper dive into the insect sculptures dotted around the garden, check out @sean_goddard_insects, also on instagram.

I love the different colors and textures. I am always looking for ideas for my garden. I think I have watched this video so many times! The fire pit going behind the conifers, spectacular! "Mushroom give away"
Aww, I am so glad we can help you with your gardening endeavors! Thank you for being a fan, and for entering Franklin's Mushroom Giveaway, we will see who he chooses come December 1st... I wish you the best of luck!!
Got a lot of good going on ... Biggest problem I have is over planted with yucca and grasses ... Can't see boulders
Mushroom gardening rocks! Thank you for all of the conifer ideas. Looking for 1 or 2 for the front of our home in zone 6a, part sun, and to get no wider than 6 ft. Prefer a white pine for it's medicinal benefitsand didn't know about Japanese varieties. Tu. Happy to share this video via the URL. :J
Amazing, I am glad you could find some inspiration - I wish you the best of luck with your gardening pursuits and finding the perfect plants for that spot! And I had no idea white pines had medicinal value, thank you for sharing that! I love when plants have multiple functions, for wildlife _and_ for us humans. Thank you for being a fan and for entering the mushroom giveaway - we will see who Franklin chooses... I wish you the best of luck! ▼ Reply
Gorgeous garden, thank you for sharing it. My favorite plant was the Papoose but the whole vision together is really what makes it a treasure. Also Mushroom Giveaway :-).
Yes! Gotta love those spherical conifers! Thank you for being a fan and for entering the mushroom giveaway - we will see who Franklin chooses. Good luck!
We took out a gazillion blackberry vines when we moved in 6 years ago, and I hoped for native plants to show, but I have been adding native plants and flowers as possible. Just love the insects and birds that come with every new plant. More like this is so informative. New to your channel.
Thats amazing, I am so happy you are turning your backyard into a native-plant habitat, and that we can help you with plant and design inspiration. I especially love how Leslie incorporated Sidalcea camestris, a native flower that is become increasingly rare in the wild, into her design. Small changes added up can make a big difference for the insects that rely on these plants. I hope to showcase more native plant gardens next year...stay tuned for more inspiration and education. and thank you for watching!
I love the swing area and that he was able to bring home a big peace of inspiration! Mushroom giveaway
Thank you for being a fan, and for entering Franklin's Mushroom Giveaway, we will see who he chooses come December 1st... I wish you the best of luck!!
WOW!Thank you for taking me over the fence with you, this one was a real stunner❤😊
Thank you for coming along for the ride!
This is the style of garden I aspire to grow-it’s absolutely lovely and serene. I’ll refer back to it often because the mix of conifers are inspirational. Thank you for all your hard work in producing this video!
I so agree!! (although I might say that for every style of gardening...) I am so glad it is helpful for you, I wish you the best of luck with your gardening pursuits. May all your plants thrive! Thank you for being a fan and for your appreciation.
Spectacular garden! The conifers are amazing.
I can’t pick what I’m in love specifically, because I want to take all of it home! But I will say the icy icy blue tall evergreen in the front of his home near the street….if it turns up missing? It wasn’t me! 😂 mushroom giveaway 🎉 Happy Friday!
HA! If you can manage to pull off such a heist...Your secret is safe with me.... 😁. Willing to bet that is Hesperocyparis (Cupressus) arizonica var. glabra 'Blue Ice' but don't quote me on that. Thank you for being a fan and for entering the mushroom giveaway - we will see who Franklin chooses. Good luck!
Love all the textures and colors without relying on blooms. Beautiful job. “Mushroom giveaway”
Thank you for being a fan, and for entering Franklin's Mushroom Giveaway, we will see who he chooses come December 1st... I wish you the best of luck!!
Mushroom art! I love the variety of specimen conifers. I’ve watched this video twice already. The inspo!
So glad we could inspire you! Wishing you the best of luck with your gardening endeavors! Thank you for being a fan.
A very nice garden design, with one little blip, the transition from the front garden proper to the ivy slope ,some how jarring
Yes... I still have a long way to go. Thank you for sitting through those minor cinematographic calamities in order to appreciate the garden itself. Can you provide the specific time that the jarring transition occurred, so that i can better understand how to avoid it in the future? Thank you!
Is he single? Because I found him very handsome and the plants 😍
Mushroom giveaway
@@andresfresa123 Haha yes...definitely a true statement and no I'm afraid not. Thank you for being a fan and for entering the mushroom giveaway - we will see who Franklin chooses... I wish you the best of luck!
One of the best gardens !!! It should be featured in garden magazines. Mushroom giveaway.
Thank you for being a fan and for entering the mushroom giveaway - we will see who Franklin chooses. Good luck!
This is my dream garden. Such a lovely garden with the mix of conifers, perennials and grasses. If possible, could you please include some of the names of the conifers shown. I would love to get an idea of the size and growth of some of the lovely conifers shown. Thank you so much for sharing your garden. It really is a beautiful retreat.❤
Thank you for watching, I'm glad you could find some inspiration. With so many wonderful conifers, it's hard to talk about them all in a single tour! I'll identify a few more varieties in Part 2, hopefully that will provide some more insight. You can also check out my video "Top 10 Favorite Trees" which has a few conifers - but maybe I ought to make a conifer-specific video. Thank you for that idea.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful garden with us. I can’t wait to see part two.❤
Beautiful!
Beautiful garden. The reflection bowl may be my favorite part. The mushroom giveaway sounds awesome!
I also love the reflection bowl - I might have to get one of my own, not only for the tranquility it provides but also for the fun of cleaning it out with a leaf blower! Thank you for being a fan and for entering the mushroom giveaway - we will see who Franklin chooses... I wish you the best of luck!
Love the Japanese style garden and the mushroom giveaway🍄🟫

I actually took note on cultivars that stuck out to me this episode. 👍
I’m a member of The National Conifer Society and your garden would be a great highlight to one of their tours. very creative and beautiful.

Beautiful garden ! Thank you. Laurent 😊
Love yours videos and mushrooms.
Love your videos!
Thank you so much for this tour!! I just discovered Charles little and company flower farm and they are such an inspiration and source of knowledge for me.
And to think - I only caught a teensy-tiny snippet of what they actually grow there...it's jaw-dropping! I'm glad you liked the video and thank you for being a fan!
What a lovely, serene garden. Japanese people would be awed by the height of the trees.
Enjoyed both parts. Love the shade garden.
Zonal denial style
Love this!
What is the reddish-purple bush to the left at 3:13?
Great question :) That’s “Helmond Pillar’ Columnar Barberry. You can prune it to be less bushy at the top and more pointy.
