    I’ve had two 8 footers no problems. Tailgate seal is very important. The wind will create a vacuum and pull water rain. From underneath the tailgate. I’ve had just about all of the types at one time or another. From the toppers to the vinyl roll ups. That fit on top of the bed. One question on the side handle. If you didn’t like pushing on the sides of the roll n lock. Thinking you might knock it out of alignment. What’s the difference of pulling on the handle 8 times a week?

    • @WhitetailGarage
      @WhitetailGarage 15 днів тому

      The rollnlock isn't designed to be pushed. At least the way I understand it, it is designed to retrack back automatically in a spring-loaded fashion. Using the strap, you pull it back. The strap scratches the bedside, especially if you do not secure it going down the road. Now, the retrax isn't spring-loaded. You are not pulling against that spring to close it. This was an issue for me, specifically due to a surgery and recovery I am going through. The retrax allows you to unlock and walk it down the bed. Either direction doesn't require force of any kind.

    Just ran across your video. Are the LED lights at the front of the truck bed factory or did you DIY them? Great idea!

    • @WhitetailGarage
      @WhitetailGarage 17 днів тому

      They are DIY. I used a grounding plunger switch in the tailgate and ran power from the cab that was a 12v constant. Then hid the LEDs under the bed rail and under the bed cover can. It turned out to be a very factory look.

    I changed the pads but it didn’t work, the failure continues... Do you think it’s the opposite side? Where did you put the insulating tape? Do you think I should try to lift the metal so that it doesn’t make contact with the plate?

    • @WhitetailGarage
      @WhitetailGarage 24 дні тому

      It needs to contact. The black electrical tape I applied didn't make a difference. The thermal transfer tape was applied to the same spot where the manufacturer applied it. Just remove the old and clean up the area and reapply. This doesn't fix every amp, unfortunately. There are a few in the comments that had to replace the amp. I would recommend finding a good rebuilt unit with a doa warranty.

    I'm pretty sure the thermal pads are to create pressure and contact on the opposite side of the transistors so they can ground onto the amplifier housing. When the pads wear out, they no longer push hard enough on the backside to make this ground consistently. For those of you who did not succeed, you may want to try and double up the padding to force more contact on the other side.

    • @WhitetailGarage
      @WhitetailGarage 26 днів тому

      You may be right, but the case certainly looks like a heat sink. I assume the thermal pads are transferring heat to the case to keep those components cool.

    @whitetailgarage are you still liking the retrax system?

    • @WhitetailGarage
      @WhitetailGarage Місяць тому

      Yes, very much. My only complaint is the drain tubes. They use cheap plastic push in adapters that keep falling out and the "drain hose" is just wire conduit. Neither are ideal for the purpose. However, that isn't enough for me to change my mind. The overall build and usability are top-notch. Plus the aluminum cover is just about maintenance-free.

    I love reviews like this. Short & straight to the point & a follow up of how the parts feel & react. I was going to go with all fox shocks myself but im never off road in my 11 F250 6.7 4X4 off Road, unkess im at the lake which isnt to often plus as you have stated they are over priced & people pay for the name to look & feel cool lol 😅. Anyhow When i got my truck it already had cheap Monroe shocks in the front & idk what the rears are "cheap somethings i assume" 😂 but they are all overly worn & leaking badly and the ride is sloppy , bouncy & rough 😮 I decided to try the NEXUS shocks but the ones i received were to big so iv got the rough country's coming in now, hopefully they will work ok for me but we shall see. It already had a "pro comp" dual steering stabilizer kit on it & a Billestein factory replacement steering stabilizer. All of those ive checked & are good however im still thinking of possibly upgrading the dual stabilizer kit as well just to see if i cant get an even better performance out kf the front end. My truck is fully deleted & tuned "mildly built" but still needs some tlc however 1 step at a time. Anyhow thank you for the review i appreciate your time brother 🙏

    Here's a couple of tips......Use paraffin wax to lube the channels on a Retrax system, never any petroleum based lube. I have a dually with an 8' bed and it's difficult to open or close my Retrax due to the fenders, my solution was to take a 8' wood dowel rod and screw a hook into one end. I can use the stick to grab the cover to close and use it to push the cover open. It's much easier to use because you're pushing or pulling from the middle or center of the cover

    How to get a power top back if the motor goes bad?

    • @WhitetailGarage
      @WhitetailGarage 2 місяці тому

      You could pull the pins on the pistons to release the top, but I would recommend replacing the pump/motor unit. Those pins are pain to get back in. Without pistons connected, the top is heavy in both directions. Definitely use two people and watch your fingers.

    To me the Retrax Pro MX and Retrax Pro XR are the best low profile tonneau covers money can buy. Over 500lbs spread out across them easily, one handed operation, locks in any position, doesn’t interfere or impede with the tailgate whatsoever, it doesn’t bulge or protrude above the bed rails and looks like it’s made for the trucks, they are the most water resistant covers I’ve ever used and they don’t block the rear window. They basically make it so you have a convertible trunk/bed at all times and your gear is safe and secure. I have one on a 5th gen 2020 Ram 2500 Laramie 6.7 Cummins and a 2023 Ford F350 Platinum 6.7 power stoke long bed. Flawless operation and ease of use on both. I don’t use the racks like I thought I would, but it’s nice to know I could on my Retrax Pro XR

    I had a roll n lock on my last truck for 12 years and it worked flawlessly. I really like the smaller canister that allows me to use large totes as storage underneath it. I did have to realign it once. I think yours just needed realigned and it would slide well again. I’ve just ordered a new one for my new truck and was told that they no longer lock into the tailgate since automatic tailgates are more common these days they’ve done away with that feature.I like the feature so I’m not sure if it’ll still come with the lock bar as an option though, I’ll find out when it gets here.

    Hello. Just fixed the same problem. The side with metal points should be contacted with metal body, it’s just a ground point and thermo contact. You don’t need replace thermo gaskets, when you do that, you just create downforce on transistor. I tried to push on transistor with finger without body, and it’s start working. Tried to solder it, and no luck, same, start working only with downforce. The problem inside of first transistor, just swap it with second one, and right now have sound, but sometimes front speakers out of work. So the problem is transistor, not thermo gaskets

      @@WhitetailGarage Thanks for the feedback and help, I got it done! You are not lying about the front top nut. The allen easily stripped on both sides and using the ratcheting wrench was a pain in the ass. I ended up lowering the boot and putting 2 vise grips to grab the shaft. Put an 18mm socket and went to town. It was sooooo much easier. I saw several videos of dudes using a little allen key and ratcheting wrench, not sure I believe it 100% :)

      That is smarter, for sure. I was trying to keep it oe looking even though I have no intention of the car staying that way long term.

    Thank you. Your video saved me over $600. I was able to repair my 2013 Nav Amp in 2.5 hours.

    Really came here to see how you flush mounted them. Did you use the existing slots? Did you drill thru the case?

      I used the existing slots. Probably would have been easier to just drill through.

    Awesome video! Have a few questions. 1. CJ pony says the hardware for the dynacorn bracket is for 65-66. Does this matter if my motor is from a 67? 2. I’m new to all this stuff, how difficult was it to connect the wire from the breaker? Can I use any wire and where exactly do I connect it?

      That bracket should be 65-68. You should be good from my understanding. Running the new harness and wiring was really simple. I would recommend getting all the pre-built harnesses. That made it really simple. Looks really original that way also.
