- Silage part 2 is GO! We head off to cut some more herbal ley and white clover ready for silage but... EVERYTHING goes wrong. This one is a really heart wrenched, so fasten your seat belts and enjoy the ride.

Its tough James. I've had a tough tough week too. I buried my 44 year old daughter on Monday. 5 years battling cancer. Left a Husband and three children. RIP 🙏.
So sorry about your dog ,its hard when you have to make the decision to put them out of their pain.hope your weekend is better than your week ❤

Sorry for your loss chap, weeks like this happen, just got to keep on keeping on and have a smile at what you still have. ( losing a dog is harder than some people realise, feeling yr grief chap)

Dogs are not called man's best friend for nothing, I know how you feel about your beloved furry friend, I went through a bad time last year when my lab/spaniel cross Lacey was diagnosed with cancer, she was 9, vet wanted too put her too sleep there and then, we said no, and spent in excess of £5000 in vet bills for nearly 7 months, as at the time of her diagnosis she was her normal, happy self, we had too call it and ease her suffering after she had a stroke, even though the day before she was her normal self, she had lost a little weight, but was eating etc, and running around her happy normal self, I miss her so much and even feel guilty putting her too sleep, even though it was for her benefit not mine, we still have two other dogs, both miss Lacey, even today if we say her name, my spaniel Ziggy will run around the house looking for her, they where together from 2-3 months old.

So sorry about your dog James. It’s always a hard decision to make. Now the wrapper, do you think you’ll look into replacing it eventually due to issues you’ve had with it recently?
The oil leak could be from the mowers coupling, try plugging it into a different spool and see if the leak moves.
Good idea, I’ll have a switch around and see where what I find.

Alright Baldy, on the subject of chicory, with it being a tap root and conditioning the soil do you also think in the instance of a heavy clay field that holds water it would also allow for the soil to increase percolation?
Yes definitely. But it’s also worth noting that other things can really help with water infiltration (like calcium). Often people will jump to using subsoiler etc when a change in soil biology is what’s needed for long term change.
How do you combat weeds in a herbal ley? Aka docks/thistles?
Also does red clover need to flower go to seed to last in a ley? As I’ve used a red clover ley but am on a multi cut system had 3 cuts alread this year .
