      @@creatorsuccess123 Yeah, I think if you already have a large Facebook audience and you're posting 100% original content (not reposting 3rd party work even part of the time or doing collabs), it can be worth signing up for. Aww thank you so much! I don't know if I mentioned this in this video or just in other episodes on this channel, but even though I'm fairly new to UA-cam, I'm not new to being a professional content creator -- having made my living for over 7 years online elsewhere (mostly as a writer but also as a meme maker and via an ecommerce company I run with friends). And my life is so good because of that. And part of why it's so good is because I didn't try to go viral or push myself in toxic ways so that I burned out and quit. It took me a few years to get my business to where I wanted to be, but nowadays I have a steady, fulfilling job that's very flexible -- and I love it. And so I have taken that attitude into UA-cam -- where it seems to be working pretty well, as this channel has been growing steadily, and with community of viewers who are so great.

    Thanks for the video, Page! I had a video do really well (for my small fledgling channel - ~20K views) which was about me quitting my 9-5 job. I gained around 500 subs from that one video. And since then, as I go back to posting more author / creativity related content, they keep dwindling away a few at a time... I try to tell myself it's just that they're not interested in my channel's content beyond that one video, but honestly it feels quite disheartening!

    • @ByPageTurner
      @ByPageTurner 2 дні тому

      20k views is a GREAT video performance at your size. Well done! And tbh I had the same thing happen on my other channel, Our Moving Castle, an RV travel channel I run with my RV. We had an episode hit 50k views (about the 2 weeks we lived at Disney World) and had great subscriber momentum while the video was still being served, but the other episodes since then haven't done as well -- despite also being on RVing and various places we've visited. And our sub count got stuck for a while once the Disney episode stopped getting served. It was very alarming, so I know what you mean. I will say that I'm seeing a re-uptick in views and momentum this past week (finally), so it seems to be temporary. No huge smash hit like before, but gradually going back to what was normal for us. This all leads me to believe that is common (or at least within the real of "normal") after a big hit like that.

And the worst part is the Shorts are not of my interest, just material I accumulated in the last two years. I just started to reach one hundred shorts for the goal of doing it. Also, sometimes the Norwegian version attract hundred of views , in other shorts is the Spanish version or the English version. Is entertaining, but futil as you pointed out. I don't know if this was a glitch or if it was happening but over the last 2 weeks I went from 46 to 47 and then down to 46, repeat a few times. Then I got 48. Ok, cool 48. Then down to 47 and back up and back down, etc. Finally now, I've made it to 51. However, when checking my analytics, I can see days where I've gained 0 - 5 subs and I have one day where I lost one. I saw it reflect in the analytics, no problem. But when all that up and down for nearly 2 weeks was going on, my analytics was not reflecting losses or gains. I'm so confused. That makes me think it was a glitch. Idk. Has anyone on here experienced that?

    • @ByPageTurner
      @ByPageTurner 2 дні тому

      Yeah, I've experienced all sorts of fluctuations that don't make sense to be honest. For example! A few hours ago, I suddenly lost 3 subs out of nowhere, and I was like "wow ok" -- and then I checked back 10 minutes later and I had 5 new subs (so a net positive of 2 subs). And no real explanation of it. It's best not to take any of it personally (don't get overly excited about positive or negative changes) and keep on keeping on!

    • @BodyBoostRevolution
      @BodyBoostRevolution 2 дні тому

      @@ByPageTurner It's definitely very odd. Not seeing it in the analytics makes me think it's a glitch. With so few viewers on a brand new channel, I can't imagine a dozen people unsubbing. Hi :) Sometimes I lose subs for commenting on another channel! or writing a post on mine. My actions have value. Never clickbait. It's been confuzzling. Thank you for shedding light on this and sharing. It helps to become indifferent to the numbers.

      @ByPageTurner 2 дні тому

      Yes -- I think it's a good idea to never become too emotional about the numbers (even getting too excited when the numbers are good has risk to it, because your mood will crash when they go down).

    Thanks for making this video! Until July/August, I lost viewers with every video I made this year. It was really disheartening. I'm almost at my watch hours for monetization. But beyond that, I know that there is this "social proof" that comes with higher subscriber counts. In my head that's 10k. I also feel that's the number at which brands start to pay more attention to you for sponsorship etc.

    This happens on almost every video i put out. 2-3 people unsubscribe often. Of course ill gain quite a few at times too.. so its 2 steps forward one step back so to speak. Such a regular occurrence that i dont let it bother me anymore to be honest. as you alluded in your video, some niches need to create eye catching almost click baity titles and thumbnails. My channel is gardening, so i have to think outside the box rather than just being generic. Ive found a common reason is because some subscribers sub for one particular type of video. My channel has a few different types of gardening content.. vlog and how to. and i think some people just want a specific type of content

    • @ByPageTurner
      @ByPageTurner 2 дні тому

      Yeah, you're at the size now with your subscriber base that that level of churn is inevitable imo. I bet it's more like 10 steps forward, 1 step back for you. Hahahaha. But I get it. And I agree. Some viewers just want a specific thing -- and there's nothing wrong with that. Thank you as always for your insightful comments!

    I'll add to your list. I lost a few subscribers when I monetized my channel. They apparently didn't like commercials. The midrolls were automatic and if UA-cam places the ads, it will break up sentences in its idea of a "best placement". I manually repositioned all of the ads at the assigned chapter section break points and got rid of the midrolls in any video shorter than 15 minutes. No more loss of subscribers. But my subscriber count was pretty organic in the first place within a very defined niche. I do use drama in my thumbnails and titles though. "The Birthday Party" became "Bilbo's Party of Special Magnificence". "Bilbo's Speech" became "Bilbo's Astonishing Disappearance". I actually ask Bing which title is better and the Microsoft assistant gives me a very detailed response of the audience reaction that gets evoked by each title. My subscribers and watch hours went up when my titles got more interesting. But the times I've unsubscribed were because I unwittingly subscribed to a bad resource and later found a good one, or because that channel is just repackaging the same videos that I've already seen and doesn't have any new topics to offer. Or sometimes I just lose interest in the topic and never go back to it that I drop the channel off of my list. Knowing why I do it make it easier for me to accept when other people do that to me.

    • @ByPageTurner
      @ByPageTurner 2 дні тому

      Interesting! I find that fascinating since UA-cam ran ads on my videos even before I was monetized (my mom was asking me if I made money on them, when she checked out a video I did on my other channel about the time we lived for 2 weeks at Disney World) so I know that at least some ads were served). For the last couple of years, I've paid for UA-cam Premium, which I find worth it, since YT is my primary source of video entertainment (I don't have Netflix, Hulu, cable, etc.), pays creators better proportionally than AdSense, and means I don't have to watch ads, so it's been a looooong time since I've dealt with midroll ads on UA-cam on the viewer end. I do have some ideas for some channel experiments I could do later re: ad placement in a future episode to test out some things other creators have told me, which could be neat.

      @@ByPageTurner Yeah, it was a nail biter the first day or so. I had 1004 subscribers, then ads, then 1001, then 1000. And I was like, don't drop, don't drop! I feel the non-premium pain of my audience and I spent the first day watching my own videos that I discovered how terrible the midroll ads were to the immersive experience that I was trying to make. And less than 2% of my audience has UA-cam premium. Google was showing ads on mine before I monetized, too, but never midrolls.

    My problem is I make sewing videos with music and no talking so trying to get people to comment is really hard. My new subscribers comment once or twice then never again. It’s really hard to be seen and get new subscribers when people don’t comment. Love your content ❤

      Aw thanks for the kind words. Don't lose heart. Comments are lovely when they happen -- but it's definitely possible to grow a channel and get served even if very few people are commenting so long as your click through rates and watch times and repeat viewer numbers are all good.

    I had a job like that once. I was a new teacher and supposed to be given a mentor. Most new staff got teachers, but I was the only one who got my direct supervisor which I thought was a conflict of interest. I never felt comfortable talking to him about, anything or asking any questions because I thought it would come up in my review and I was right. The job was very stressful and not a great fit for me since I’m visually impaired and much of the job was based on visual observation. it just wasn’t my skill set And I was forced to resign. That was the best decision I could’ve made because even though I felt like a failure, I ended up littering a ton and I would never trade that experience. Can you talk a little bit about? Sitting boundaries around UA-cam creation? You talked in another video about protecting your energy and I know I sometimes can get obsessive about things and I don’t want to. I need to work this into my life somehow and still spend time with my husband and my friends and I also have a full-time job so there’s that too. What works for you? Would love to see a video on this or at least hear your thoughts on it. Thanks for any assistance you could provide.
