Holtzman's Gorilla Bushwhacker Hard Use Review
Yes, man! That kind knife is BS in bold and big letters. It comes at the same price of the Esse 6; that's crazy. It's a humongous waste of money. Definitely, price does NOT equal quality. The Mora Robust and Companion are way stronger than this piece of S*hit. Thanks for the review. I'm staying away from this brand.
Keep up the good work with these videos. I just started watching ur vids n I like the way u present n explain the knives. Good luck n I hope u make it in these demanding times
You get what you pay for
I’ve had great success with my RAT-3 (Cabela’s version) for many years. The RAT-3 offers a solid blade design and a very capable cutting edge. Mine has wooden handle scales. This knife is used daily for all sorts of tasks including opening cardboard boxes, processing wood for campfires and striking a Ferro rod. Remains reliable today and is a pleasure to use. JMO
Love the review brother.
Partner I live in Italy now. The Rat 7 will run you across the board in EUROPE 140 Euros. Which is approximately 152 US Dollars. I got a Rat 5 and Rat 7. My 5 came to me with the first inch slightly bent at the tip approx 4 to 6 degrees to the left. What I would like to do is go pay an executive at Ontario a visit slip the Rat 5 up his ass and see if I can adjust the knife that a way.
Same issues on my 3 and 5. Not usable out of the box Loctite on the handle bolts Took finish off Dyed the handles Reshaped the edge and sharpened. This took hours Now…great knives.
I think the bsh 1 is the best performer of the beavercraft knives, but I think the bsh2 has the most comfortable handle
Possibly the best jnife i ever bought for under $40
Bonjour Esee 6. 3 D handles are they good for little or médium hands ?
Good beater knife..save that buck for hunting
damm you can actually see it outside alot of ones ive got you cant see them outside in the sun
It's a great knife I recommend everyone buy one. I have two myself and they've never let me down.
It’s a 15-20 dollar knife…it’s great for the price…
I have one, and it's a really nice knife.
Oddly, real 100% puma germans dont have that emblem.
You bought a high vis crap knife & expected it to be a puma. But you re right. They shouldnt put their name on it. Buck has low grade faddish junk too.
I want to grind off that mid grip jimping and soften the thump ramp buuuut its a great blade for the dollars. I used wilson wrap on the handle until I grind it.
I would've split the difference and just bought Esse 4. The sheath is much nicer and handle. But the best thing is they really do stand by that warranty. Beat it to death, braek it when it gets too dull and just send it in for a brand new one. If you really want an Ontario go with the SP series. You might need to fix the factory edge bevel but theyre bulletproof.
Enjoyed. Review is total information. Yet I perplex on the color. First it looked like grey clay later after total setup it looks green with gray clay blend. Sure is a nice tent. Hope the bears didn't want to try your bed. So glad you are like the Yellowstone tourist who try to pet the cute cubs😊
Found mine on a dirt trail, must have bounced out of someone's weak factory sheath. Looks like it could stop a bullet, dig a hole, or prybar a door open as well. Rambo level survival knife.
Boy you really prepare for your videos, not.
The Joker Brand is becoming my new favorite brand outta left field. Top quality knives for sure.
So……. Is this real Damascus? It doesn’t look like the etched on kind.
Man, it looks really nice. I think you have the only review from this brand unfortunately. I just ordered a folder from them, mainly because it had wood scales and I put my initial on it, never done that to anything, but it did seem like it will look nice.
Cool video. I think the big draw with Mora is the quality for the price. I got a stainless clipper for $10 CAD and you simply can't beat that quality for that price. I stay away from their more expensive stuff like the Garberg, bushcraft black, etc. Those are not worth the money IMO.
Thanks! I agree about the cheaper line. The 511 was my second knife, and it is still going. I beat the crap out of that knife, but it never failed. I will eventually get a garberg, as I've noticed the price dropping some. I'll never buy the new full tang line, since the prices are just laughable. Thanks for watching!
What kind of oil did you put on the handles? Thanks
I actually use vegetable oil. I sand it first, then wipe it on with a rag, let it dry, wipe, dry, and repeat until it shines. Thanks for watching!
I have Beavercraft BSH5, love that thing
I have 1, 2 and 3, but want the 4 and 5. Eventually I'll pull the trigger. Thanks for watching!
I hope my companion hd ss coming in the mail has dimples on the grip
I did that myself. I used to customize firearms so I tend to alter my knives. Thanks for watching!
I just got a Rat 7 and it was kinda shitty. I'm a machinist, though. Blade was straight, and heat treatment seems very good. I reprofiled the edge to 18-20 deg per side and honed/ stropped it. Sanded the scales to my liking, and now I love it.
I fixed both of mine, though by hand. Took forever but worth it. They're both fantastic now. Thanks for watching!
Good video, good knife. Next time getva smaller stick of wood.
Lol, thanks! I've learned that scandi grinds are terrible at batoning. Great for carving, but only decent at most other tasks. Thanks for watching!
I want this knife now, after hearing the handle is that comfortable.
I HIGHLY recommend it! I have the 1,2 and 3, and recommend them all. Thanks for watching!
I got the jungalas and a esee 4 3d scales blaze orange really love the 4 wanting a 5 now lol
I also want the 4. The 5 is too much like my bk2 or I'd want it. Thanks for watching!
@@lheastridge 4 is a great size they shipped it to me by mistake I had ordered the 5 but I liked the 4 so much I just kept it
It is impossible to contact the seller company . Mine broke
That's disappointing to hear. I'm currently experimenting with mine, changing it to a convex grind. Figured I'd sacrifice it, while I try to learn how to convex an edge
Thanks for watching! Got send happy
Spend the extra money on Tops or Esee . I love Ontario blades and always expect that I might need to fix an edge when they come. They are fun to work on but if ya want better ya gotta pay for it. I bought knives in that price range for many years always wanting a Tops or Esee. Yet instead of just paying the price I'd never pull the lever and keep dreaming. Finally i just bought a Tops Brakimo and wish I had not wasted my money chasing the knives i really wanted. Its worth spending the money .... That said I still love buying lower cost knives and making them my own. Ontario was just bought by another U.S owned company . Seems their plant will be moved so hopefully good changes are coming ESP sheaths and quality control.
It's a clone of a benchmade pucco.
this brand is top quality stuff worth alot more tha they charge I do believe but glad thier affordable
👍👍
GREAT knife !!! But I'd keep it by my side and buy a 22 or 24 inch heavy blade MACHETE instead . I'd baby the knife and beat the hay out of the machete . 🤣 Tramontina or a Super Toro machete would nicely and they make awesome weapons in a pinch , just saying . GREAT video ol' buddy ! 👍👍
The little holes in the handle trigger something in me. It makes me wants to vomit.
why do you think its laser etched? damask hut says this same model is layers of folded 1080 and 15n20 steel
I own it also and I like the cutting performance much more than a Mora Companion 👍
I agree. I had the companion hd and gave it away. Not impressed. The ganzo has performed beyond my expectations! Thanks for watching!
I just got a RAT 7 a month ago to replace my old one. I didn't notice right away but the grind is off. Not the edge, the actual grind, the geometry of the blade. I feel like I could have done a straighter job here with my own tools. I don't know what's going on over there but I'm extremely disappointed in Ontario. They used to be my favorite.
I feel your pain. I hope they wake up before it's too late. Thanks for watching!
Great review! How did you patina the blade? Vinegar?
Thank you! I used both vinegar and mustard. Thanks for watching!
I bought a Rat5 because it was more knifey and less trying to be a hatchet. It's still way too thick for a knife. Esee knives are 1/4" thick, I chose this one because the spine was a thinner 3/16". 20/20 hindsight, I would have bought a 5" blade with a 1/8" spine. I have an Esee Xancudo which I love, but the blade is just a bit short.
I checked it out, and it does look like BPS knives which is nothing wrong and prices are same,I found BSH 2,3,4 for $47 CDN pesos each... It's like BPS wants to create another brand under same umbrella 🌂... Don't worry people,it won't break...
Thanks for watching!
I'd like it better if it was a drop point
Never baton over rocks! Use a stick on the ground if no log rounds are available
Which one is the most comfortable? I have the BPS adventurer, i love it. I did wrap the handle in grip tape to make it more comfortable. I also did a bluing. Im really trying to find a bluing that makes the blade almost black. I just haven't found it yet. Funny how people push all these expensive knives an these Ukraine knives do everything i could ask. I gotta add in all my many years with knives. The BPS adventurer was the sharpest knife I've ever got.
I find the bsh1 the most comfortable, along with BPS B1. As far as bluing; I think Birchwood Casey super blue produces the darkest, most even finish. Thanks for watching!
@@lheastridge thanks a bunch I'll look that one up it's a new one to me always worth a try.
I have collected knives as long as I have played in the woods. Over 40 years of it. I have had a lot of cheap and a lot of expensive knives. This is my favorite
It's fantastic! I would love to see a reboot, now that schrade has changed their structure. It would be great to see a more comfortable handle to go with the 1095, along with a high grade stainless version. Thanks for watching!
@@lheastridge I agree completely! The jimping is not good on the fingers I filed mine down but I wish the same as you... Reboot
@@caseylewis2835 I actually filled mine in with jb weld. I put a bunch on it, then sanded it down.
@@lheastridge oh damn I am on that project asap! Thanks for the info
@@caseylewis2835 no problem. Happy to help
